• Stop Social Security cuts.
We must stop the change in Social Security COLA cuts. Seniors have paid their whole life into Social Security it is not an entitlement. Congress' pension is an entitlement we should cut.

  • Save Social Security in New Mexico!
The White House and congressional budget negotiators appear poised to make a deal on the backs of the most vulnerable people in this country. In the name of deficit reduction, cuts to Social Security remain on the table, despite the fact that they have nothing to do with the debt. Women, particularly women of color and women with disabilities, will end up paying the greatest price if chained CPI goes through. Already hampered by a lifetime of discriminatory wages and time spent out of the workforce or family caregiving, many women have only Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid to rely on in retirement. I have a 55 year old sister with disabilities who is at risk of being homeless due to the risk of the increasing cost of her assisted living situation. My 84 year old mother's retirement could also be adversely affected. Many of us in New Mexico have family members or are ourselves in tenuous living situations like these. New Mexico has been one of the hardest hit states in the country by the economic downturn, and we will continue to be negatively affected for some time to come.

  • Stop Importing Fracking Materials at the Port of Olympia
The Port of Olympia Commissioners have been permitting import of ceramic proppants since mid-2012. These proppants are being used to frack the Bakken formation in North Dakota. The fossil fuel industry is not bothering to capture the natural gas when they frack the Bakken because there is more profitable oil to be extracted, so they are simply burning the natural gas as a waste material. The oil from the Bakken could be pumped for 30 years, further fueling the climate crisis if we don't step in and say NO. We can build a sustainable energy grid. Our children and grandchildren will thank us for making this change happen. The change begins when we all stop contributing to and facilitating the fossil fuel extraction industry. We ask the Port Commissioners to stop the import and movement of the fracking materials now.

  • No chained CPI or other Social Security Cuts
Please urge my representative Hon. Sean Patrick Maloney to oppose chained CPI or any other cuts to Social Security, as 107 of his colleagues have already done in a letter to the President in February 2013. I live in Newburgh, NY in the 18th Congressional District.

  • President Obama: No Chained CPI!
Social Security is not driving the deficit, and therefore it should not be part of reforms aimed at cutting the deficit. Cutting benefits is opposed by an overwhelming majority of Americans. If the American people really wanted a president who would start to dismantle our Social Security system or cut Medicare benefits, it’d be Mitt Romney in office, not Barack Obama. President Obama should honor the trust we put in him when we elected him for a second term and protect Social Security and Medicare, not cut their benefits.

  • Rep. Butterfield, Save Medicare and Social Security!
As a senior, I worked 36 years and paid into Social Security and Medicare all those years, I am now almost 73 year old. I really do not need a Social Security or Medicare cut. This is not fair. I and a lot of people are depending on Social Security and Medicare to survive. I am asking all to rethink what will happen to seniors. We are barely surviving now. Mr. President you promised you would not change Social Security

  • President Obama: Why are you abandoning your constituency?
You made promises during your campaign concerning Social Security and Medicare. Yet now you say you are going to reduce benefits that we have already paid for. Over the past 6 years my "fixed" income has been reduced, and in 2012 it was reduced 4%. With your proposed cuts, should I purchase food or medication.

  • Senator Claire McCaskill Don't Touch Social Security
We the undersigned strongly encourage you to reject any decision to include the chained CPI in your proposed federal budget. Call it whatever you want -- the chained CPI is still a cut to those who need help the most. We can’t let it happen. Cutting Social Security is a bridge too far. It’s an unnecessary attack on a critical program that, by law, is unable to add to the deficit. Speaker Boehner has shown time and time again that he’s not interested in reaching a balanced agreement to reduce the debt. We have nothing to gain from these concessions. We urge you to reject the chained CPI from your proposed budget, and stand strong for Social Security. Sincerely,
