Governor Beshear just vetoed HB 279, a bill that would have undermined civil liberties and allow for challenges to existing anti-discrimination Fairness laws in Covington, Lexington. Louisville, & Vicco that protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals from employment, housing, and public accommodations discrimination. Now it goes back to the House and Senate where a simple majority could override the governor's veto. Sojourners, a national organization committed to faith in action for social justice, was shocked when Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions recently said there is no “moral or legal responsibility to reward somebody who entered the country [without documentation].” We know we must care for every human being, regardless of their documentation status. Immigration reform is not about politics. It is about the well-being of our communities, and we have a moral responsibility to fix the broken immigration system that is hurting our brothers and sisters. Both Republicans and Democrats agree that a solution should include a roadmap to citizenship for the 11 million aspiring Americans who are contributing to our society. Senator Sessions’ statement cannot go unchallenged. Tell the senator that you believe we have a moral responsibility to care about ALL our sisters and brothers.

I have personally experieced a home invasion. It was not an assault weapon. but with a single shot a body can be killed. It is not necessary to blow a body to bits.

I have a friend who lost his job and his insurance lapse for two weeks. Because his insurance lapse his license plate was revoke for 30 days which left him without a vehicle to look for a job. This law only brings additional hardships on poor people especially in this economy.

Stopping the sequester, because it affects all of us. Teachers, musicians, ecology work, the National and State parks we have here in the Bay Area. I am an ecologist, and go to music, and the Parks. This could affect garbage collection, which really brings it down to bare facts.

Recently the Governer and State Legislature have been attempting to close down famous historical sites around the State to "save money". One of the main reasons my wife and I moved to the state seven years ago was because North Carolina placed an emphasis on it's very interesting history. We moved from California, where we had both resided all of our lives. One of the reasons we moved from the state was because California had lost it's soul as a result of getting rid of similar programs in that state. Several years ago Downtown Asheville, NC was a "ghost town". Instead of tearing down the old boarded up buildings the city fathers decided to renovate these buildings and make the downtown area into a tourist Mecca. It was a brilliant idea. Most of the old Multi story buildings opened shops and restaurants on the first floor. The upper floors were converted into condos or apartments to encourage a growing population in the downtown area. Subsequently, Downtown Asheville has grown into a thriving city unto itself and became a successful tourist area. Part of the charm of the area has been it's emphasis on the history of the area and the friendliness of it's occupants. Los Angeles, California took a different direction. They tore down the old and replaced it with cheaper, less interesting buildings. Nobody goes to downtown L..A. because it has no "charm". It's inhabited mostly by "projects", is unfriendly, even hostile, and dirty.

Yes. My son license plate was revoke for 30 days because his insurance lapse. He was unemployed and didn't have insurance for two weeks. This snowballed into him losing his license plate for 30 days. Its wrong in this economy to expect young voters facing hard economic times to penalize like this. the poor like this.
