Federal moms want more!!! The US is the only first world country without mandatory paid maternity leave for working mothers. It's a disgrace. The only option for Federal employee moms is to take unpaid leave through the Family Medical Leave Act or exhaust their accrued sick and annual leave. That's not healthy for new families and it's not how the government should treat its employees. Federal families deserve better! They serve our country everyday and for that they should have the right to take mandatory paid maternity leave. Federal employees should have six months of paid maternity and paternity leave to care for a child in the first year after birth! Sign this petition if you agree!

The U.S. Navy has sought permission to kill, permanently injure, or otherwise seriously harm whales and dolphins more than 31 million times over the next five years throughout Southern California, Hawaii, the Gulf of Mexico, and along the Atlantic Coast, using sonar and other equipment. Last Friday, March 8th, 2013 the California Coastal Commission voted unanimously to reject the Navy’s request due to the input from many environmental groups and over 500,000 ordinary people who took time to let the Navy know how they felt about this issue. The following is a quote from Jana Zimmer, one of the California coastal Commission members: “I understand you see this 120,000-square mile range as your theater, but the bottom line is we don’t see it that way. That theater is occupied by creatures of the sea,... Because the people of California have worked so hard and so long to create these marine protected areas, you need to start looking at this theater as a theater where some of the seats are reserved.” Although this victory is not the end of this issue, we feel that because of the actions of people like you, a major turning point has been reached. The use of real estate taxes to fund schools is completely regressive It forces people to pay with no relationship to their ability to pay. This regressive tax pushes the elderly and persons of reduced income out of their homes. It makes the cost of home ownership much higher and thus deprives lower income families of the opportunity to own a home. It depresses the real estate market by raising the cost of ownership.

Regardless of how noble your intentions, private schools have limited enrollment and public schools educate the masses. If you want to improve education, do it by providing much needed assets to the public schools.
