Several women that I know, who make enough to stay off welfare, but not enough to afford health care for their kids, were able to provide this care through the Health Families program. This program has now been discontinued in the California budget. As a taxpayer, I am happy to pay for a program like this that is both morally appropriate and economically efficient.

Certain motivations of lawmaking, have moved well away from the benefit of the country and populous to the great benefit of lobbyists, large corporations and of the lawmakers themselves. The country suffers and starves, while our lawmakers (both Republicans and Democrats) say,"Let them eat cake." The banks, large and multinational corporations, who constantly whine for less taxes and governmental control (free market capitalism), then want to be "bailed out," whenever they get caught by their own bad policies. This is just a few reasons to start taking a direct control of "our employees" in Washington DC.

Subsidizing the oil industry is like giving Bill Gates a free computer (well, maybe more like giving him a few million free computers). The oil industry's profit was over $100 billion last year, making it the most lucrative industry on the planet, and yet U.S. taxpayers continue to give the oil industry money we don't have. As Congress debates what to cut to avoid a government shutdown, one of the first things it should consider—but isn't considering—are the more than $10 billion in taxpayer subsidies that we give to Big Oil every year.

Washington should be a leader in producing and using renewable energy. Unfortunately, conservative senators are pushing a bill to gut our voter approved clean energy law, Initiative 937. Incredibly, it would allow utilities to use coal power in place of wind and solar energy. Tell our Senators to oppose any efforts to weaken our clean energy laws!

My younger cousin has autism and when i look at her i wonder how independent she will be when she's older. So when it was time for me to create a product for the senior graduation project i thought of the idea to work with Charlotte Housing Authorities to create a housing system that is made for autistic adults and adults with other mental/ physical disabilities so that they could move out of their parents and feel like they can do everything that other adults could do.

It's time to reverse three years of education cuts that are threatening the quality of our schools. Next year, there will be 200 more staff cuts in Anchorage, following several years of cuts; 36 staff cuts in Fairbanks; close to 100 staff cuts in Juneau; and cuts in the Mat-Su Borough, Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak, the Northwest Arctic Borough, Nome, and other districts. This isn't the way to move education and the dreams and opportunities of our children forward. We are not wedded to the funding amount in House Bill 95. We are wedded to an amount that reverses Alaska's three-year course of school staffing cuts. I myself along with millions of others have been prosecuted for using something as simple as WEED. Our jails and prisons are over populated in part to all the people locked up because of this. Let us turn over this Weed prohibition as our parents over turned the Alcohol prohibition.

House Bill 379 grants qualifying television productions an additional 5% tax incentive for in-state expenditures and allows for unused funds budgeted for overall film production to roll-over into the following fiscal year. The bill protects state money, creates jobs, supports; local businesses, arts, education, training, tourism, and sends the clear message to the global production industry that New Mexico is open for business.
