• Cut Healthcare Costs and Reform Medicare
My mother and father are in their nineties and pay $12,000 a year for health care in addition to Medicare and co-payments. They are not alone. I am 61 and nearing retirement, but like many seniors cannot consider retirement until I can be assured that healthcare costs will be contained so I will be able to afford it. If Obamacare will be providing and subsidizing healthcare to those not yet 65 who do not have health insurance why not put them on Medicare at 60 and contain costs by negotiating drug prices.

  • Legalize Medical Marajuana
I suffer from severe osteo arthritis and bulging discs in my lower spine.I have been prescribed Percocet for my pain. I worry about using a narcotic so do not take them as often as I need them. One of the side affects besides addiction is constipation, an ongoing problem for me. I had the opportunity to try a small amount of medical marijuana last year from someone with my same issues who was visiting from another state where it is legal. For the first time in 3 years the pain was tolerable but more importantly I was able to sleep through the night and wake up not feeling a drug hangover. If medical marijuana is legalized in Maryland I will no longer have to suffer with dibilitating pain and sleepless nights. Imagine what it could do for someone with worse issues than mine. Please Gov. O'Malley, rethink your concerns about this issue.

  • Fight Cuts to Social Security and Medicare
Congressman Scott Peters campaigned on fighting cuts to Social Security and Medicare. Now that he has been elected, he is refusing to sign the Grayson-Takano letter to the White House opposing cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. He has consistently refused to take a stand on these issues that are so important to his constituents. In view of the greatest inequity in wealth and income since before the great depression, we do not want to see continued tax breaks to the 1% and corporations on the backs of seniors and the shrinking middle class. Congressman Peters must also stop referring to Social Security and Medicare as “entitlements.” They are “earned benefits” paid into throughout our working years. When we voted for Scott Peters, rather than Bilbray, we expected him to support the democratic principles he campaigned on. Congressman Peters does not deserve to be re-elected if he supports cuts to Social Security and Medicare

  • Workers Bill Of Rights
Currently corporations are seen as legal entities on their own. Most of our laws are about subsidizing & protecting THEIR laws & rights not peoples. We have no real retirement plans that help us nor any reasonable right to be treated with dignity nor respect. We can be fired as soon as we get to retirement age for trumped up reasons with little to no recourse. We will age out without any real socialized medical option & the fruits of our labors will be underpaid & subsidized by our tax dollars due to no real laws to mandatorily have a living wage.We pay the corporations to underpay us.We need to not fund corporations who in turn stick us with all of their associated costs that are picked up in social entitlement programs from lack of a living wage.

  • Utah Lawmakers: Stop Plans to Drain Our Resources for Land Grab Lawsuit
The Transfer of Public Lands Act (HB 148) demands title to 30 million acres of federal land, and the filing of 22 lawsuits claiming highway rights-of-way for thousands of miles of dirt routes, including some in our national parks. Our national forests, the redrock deserts and canyons surrounding our national parks, and even Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, would be managed to maximize short-term revenues. If the state prevails in its rights-of-way claims, our national parks, wild lands, and other scenic treasures would be degraded as existing protections are nullified or diminished. These initiatives will cost millions of dollars, harm our rural tourism economies, and not produce any lasting benefits for education or our children.

  • Protect Washington's Minimum Wage!
People who work hard and play by the rules should be paid enough to live with dignity and raise a family. But Senate Republicans are pushing to cut our state's minimum wage by 25% for new workers. Workers in restaurants and many other service industries would earn only $6.89 an hour for their first 6 month or more - not nearly enough to support themselves or their family.

  • Reduce Congressional Pay
Instead of firing 30,000 teachers, cutting funding for thousands of first responders in local communities, eliminating more than 4 million meals for senior citizens, and cutting after school programs for over one million children, I propose that all members of Congress receive a pay reduction. The reduction will be evenly distributed among all members of Congress.
