Suspend Pay: CONGRESSIONAL SEQUESTRATION SUPPORTERS WHO: Any Congress-person allowing our budget to lapse, resulting in a National 'Fiscal Cliff' action to happen. WHAT: Immediate suspension of any and all forms of Pay, Salary, Benefits that Congress-person receives from government funding. Non-financial benefits - Travel, telephone, mailing/franking, meals, and any other 'perks' resultant or received as benefits of position shall be immedately suspended. WHY: If the fedrally-employed person is unable or unwilling to perform the materially substantial aspects of employment - namely, establishing a timely congressional spending budget - then any and all remuneration for employment shall be immediately suspended. Congressperson MUST be present at place of Business - Washington, DC - to even be considered 'working'.

Sapelo Island, Ga is home to one the last historic Geechee/Gullah communities in the entire United States. McIntosh County sent out notices in which they raised property tax rates upwards 500%-1,000% on Island residents; most of whom are older/retired & live on fixed incomes. We should all be concerned because this shouldn't happen in America. Sapelo Island's culture is truly the last of a very important part of not only African-American history; but also American history. The Sapelo community of Hog Hammock is currently on the federal National Registry of Historic Places through the US Dept of Interior, but this hasn't stopped the county government of McIntosh from raising taxes at a rate they know Sapelo's residents & descendants alike aren't able to pay.

The members of Congress were elected to represent the views of the majority of Americans, and enact legislation for our benefit. Government OF the People, BY the People, and FOR the People. If they don't do their job they should not receive a paycheck.

I lost 2 nephews to gun shootings from 2002 to 2009 , also 1 nephew was shot 3 times 2012 and survived . 3 cousins shoot to death 2008 to 2012 . I ASKED state legislator who talked to other elected officials in 2006 to 2010 to get state police to patrol the mon valley streets ,nothing happened. mon valley has a avg of 19 black on black deaths each year with a 5% close rate. THE police and community need help from the State Legislators and governor that have state police sitting in state police cars just 8 to 10 miles away from these high crime areas.

Today, members of our community are rightly concerned about our public safety - including crime such as gun violence and theft, and social issues such as drug abuse, homelessness, and untreated mental-illness. Fear and frustration from these very real issues lead to ineffective reactive responses, quick-fix solutions and the scapegoating of the most vulnerable populations in our community. These reactions do not lead to the effective and sustainable solutions that Santa Cruz County needs to truly solve these problems. It is time to find another way. Many groups in our community are working to create a safe and healthy community. But no one individual, organization or group has the definitive answer. The standardized testing, also known now as STAAR (formerly TAKS) is making a real education seem out of reach. Our kids are memorizing instead of being taught how to problem solve, and figure out problems on their own. I blame this on our cultures' need to have everything in one click. We should be investing in our kids' education not creating shortcuts for an exemplary status or extra funding. Schools used to be a place for education. Now it seems more like a business. My kids are in the 3rd and 4th grade doing algebra and geometry!! I did this in highschool. They are too young, and there is too much preasure to pass this test. Even teachers are at risk of termination due to poor testing results. Other countries got their education system from the U.S. before all this standadrized mess, and now they are all ahead of the U.S. in education. Bring back the real education that gives our children the right tools, values, and morals for the future, not a shortcut version that creates standardized dummies.
