  • Save Our Post Office - Maine
Our goal is to save the U.S. Postal Service from drastic cuts in service. We want the postal service to cease closing mail processing plants. We want the postal service to continue 6 day delivery and we want the postal service to stop closing post offices and cutting retail operating hours. Our goal is to see the dramatic over-payments into retirement accounts to stop and be returned to the postal service. The goal of this petition is also to have congress address the hostile working conditions in the US Postal Service and "Union Busting" tactics.

  • Petition to Support Bipartisan VAWA in Congress
We, the undersigned, wish to thank and encourage Representative Tom Reed to continue his bipartisan efforts to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, along with the enactment of the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act and the Campus Safety Act. We thank the Representative for his efforts to champion bipartisan support for the VAWA and encourage him to lead the efforts to pass a more inclusive VAWA in the House; a House act similar to the Senate version would provide protections to undocumented immigrants, Native Americans, and same-sex couples. These acts, if passed, will prove to be instrumental tools in the fight against domestic violence and other intimate forms of violence. The act provides victims of domestic abuse with a refuge from violence through crisis centers, hotlines, violence prevention programs, and other essential services. We also urge the Representative to act quickly and determinedly as the act is of an urgent nature. Failure to pass the legislation quickly, increases the risk of sexual violence on campus and cuts off survivors from vital resources. If the Violence Against Women Act (S. 1925) is not passed in the early days of this congressional session, 200,000 survivors could lose critical legal, and in many cases, life saving, services and protections.

  • Congress: Issue Subpeonas for the Drone Strike Memos
Senate and House committees have sought from the Administration legal memos justifying the use of drone strikes outside any traditional theater of war, including those that target American citizens. In response, the Administration finally released some information, but is refusing to disclose more. It makes a difference what the policy is. Recent polls have indicated that most Americans wouldn't support drone strikes if there is a significant risk of civilian casualties, and wouldn't support broad targeting of anyone suspected of being associated with a militant group if they aren't a threat to the United States. The information that has been released so far shows that the Administration can release information to Congress and the public without compromising national security. We need to have an informed public debate about the drone strike policy, and to have an informed debate, we need to know what the policy is. Here's an article from the Huffington Post about the possibility of subpoena: Subpoenas For Drone Memos From House Judiciary Committee Has 'Bipartisan Interest' http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/27/drone-memos_n_2776036.html

  • No Results no pay!
Our Congress is failing the American people that they serve. I am asking that we change the pay structure for our Senators and Congress men and women. Change the pay structure to a model that is results driven or return it back to a per diem model that was good enough for our forefathers. The current pay structure offers 175 to 194,000 dollars per annum (130 to 180) days. $97.00+ /hour. This pay structure is obviously not working and I believe that there is no incentive to produce results. Offering a per diem with min and max bonuses based on US citizen satisfaction will improve andl produce better results.

  • Repeal Section 634 of the Taxpayer Relief Act
Section 634 of the Taxpayer Relief Act decreases Medicare outpatient reimbursement for Cobalt 60 stereotactic radiosurgery (“Gamma Knife®”) for brain disorders by more than 50%. Which is below the cost of providing a procedure. This will reduce access to an important treatment for Medicare beneficiaries, result in certain patients losing access to a viable procedure and potentially impose cost increases on the Medicare program over time.
