• Hindu Voices for VAWA: Standing United Against Domestic Violence & Sexual Abuse
Join “Hindu Voices for VAWA: Standing United Against Domestic Violence & Sexual Abuse”, a campaign by Hindu American Seva Communities (HASC) to mobilize American Hindus to urge Congress to pass the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Our tradition worships the divine feminine aspects (God). Let us honor women and bring the dharmic social justice voice to the forefront. We urge you to sign the petition to support VAWA. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is our nation's most effective tool in addressing and preventing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. With 1 in 4 women experiencing severe physical violence by an intimate partner and nearly 1 in 5 women being raped in her lifetime in the United States alone, the reauthorization of VAWA is needed now more than ever. Recently, the Senate passed a strong bipartisan and inclusive VAWA reauthorization bill. It’s now up to the House to pass an equally robust version of VAWA quickly. Background: Initially passed in 1994, VAWA was written to protect women against domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. VAWA provides the law enforcement officials efficient and effective support in responding to crimes such as these. VAWA brings awareness to the serious endemic of domestic and sexual abuse and promotes efforts to end such violence. VAWA programs are administered by the Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services and give law enforcement, prosecutors and judges the tools they need to hold offenders accountable and keep communities safe while supporting victims. In 2012 the 112th Congress stalled and did not vote to reauthorize VAWA for another five years the Senate version that gives extra provision to protect the immigrant, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT), and Native American communities. “Hindu Voices for VAWA: Standing United Against Domestic Violence & Sexual Abuse” is a project of Hindu American Seva Communities (HASC) (aka Hindu American Seva Charities), an independently registered not-for-profit organization. Hindu American Seva Charities (HASC) is a progressive American organization advancing seva (community service), interfaith collaboration, pluralism, social justice and sustainable civic engagement to ignite grassroots social change and build healthy communities and coalitions while strengthening our places of worship. Through education and policy changes it seeks to bridge the gap between US government and Hindu and Dharmic people and places of worship. • Ex-offenders Right to work with youth
This petition is about ex-offenders wanting to join other organizations who are working with our youth, and recieving contracts or grants to provide services. I have been turned down by organizations to work with their youth because this law is in place. I have offended in over 20 years; I have a organization that's been working with youth and adults that have drug problems or who are in gangs for 15 years. Even though we are known for work and agencies and organizations call on us all the time, we are still limited in our work with those organizations. This law needs to be changed!

  • We want our 2% back!
Congress temporarily lowered the Social Security tax withholding rate to 4.2% from 6.2% for 2011 and 2012. But amid continued hand-wringing about deficits and revenue, lawmakers let it expire for 2013. What that means for most workers is 2% less money in their paychecks.

  • EDUCATION TO BE A PRIORITY!
When I started out as a teacher in the 1960's our State was #3 in the Nation and now we are 48th!! How did this happen? Our Legislature has fallen down on the job of making Education a priority. The lottery was EXTRA money NOT money to take away from our budget. Under the Senior Jerry Brown our advanced educational system was the best in the country so middle class children received an excellent education for little money and became the future including me in our state. I want everyone who believes that Education is the way to better jobs to sign this petition to make EDUCATION A PRIORITY IN CALIFORNIA! WRITTEN BY: ROSALIE BERGMAN, RETIRED EDUCATOR

  • Curtail Comcast's (Xfinity's) Corporate Disregard of Consumers
My elderly parents, three good friends and I have recently experienced extremely poor customer service including hours of cell phone time on the phone in innumerable calls re: problems promised to be corrected, only to reoccur multiple times, incorrect documentation of prior conversations, extremely long wait times at local offices to pick up equipment, billings inconsistent with phone quotes, failures to follow up by phone or email, failure to show up for scheduled appointments, while charging excessive rates with no ala carte channel choices.

  • Rehire Ryan Smith
Ryan Smith has been an RA here at Georgia Gwinnett College for the 3 years now, an excellent one at that. He has NEVER even been written up, and he got fired over something simple. Although Ryan should have been more responsible, this is his first time ever getting in any kind of trouble at GGC. As residents here, we believe that Ryan should get another chance. He loved his job so much and he always gave it his all. He made it a point to have every student comfortable with coming to him for anything. We look up to Ryan and also look to him for guidance. We are petitioning this issue because we want Ryan rehired. No one deserves to lose their job over one mistake. Believe it or not, Ryan getting fired is affecting all of us. He needs to be rehired as soon as possible.
