• Mandate Paid Parental Leave for 16 Weeks
Since reading the NY Times article about stalled policies for families since the Family Medical Leave Act http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/17/opinion/sunday/why-gender-equality-stalled.html?pagewanted=all it's apparent that women AND men deserve time and money to bound with a newly born child. Only if paid maternity leave and paternity leave is provided will women feel they can remain in the workforce and contribute to society and men feel they can be fully present in their family's lives. Let's put the pressure on the US House, Senate, and President Obama to make this a priority!

  • We Need Congressional Term Limits!
Congressional decisions affect us all and they are suppose to positively impact the majority of the populous. Yet, these representatives spend up to 70% of their time raising funds (from lobbyists and PACs) for their re-election campaigns. By limiting these reps to no more than two terms in office, we will always have the best chance of getting fresh ideas that will be based on what's best for our Country and not for what will get them re-elected on an unlimited basis. Two two-year terms for House reps and two four-year terms for Senators with only one year of extra pay after their terms end (to get them back into the private sector) would be my recommendation. If you looked at the audience during the recent State Of The Union Address, you saw the same old, tired faces that we have seen for too many years. (Only the youngish, fresh faces of more women stood out to me.) We need Congressional Term Limits to give us a better chance of eliminating the gridlock in Washington DC. Write your congressional reps and let them know that you support this petition

  • Gov. Scott, support democracy
It took me more than two hours to vote in the past presidential election because of Gov. Scott's refusal to support democracy; we showed that we will vote for the candidates we want regardless of the obstacles that the reigning crew tries to put in place to favor their candidates; but it is the duty of the governor to see that the process is fair and easy, not complicated and one sided

  • Decline H.124 Promote Enforcement & Education & Treatment
H.124 is a bill that would create a 10 round magazine limit, require a concealed carry permit, require background checks on private gun sales. This legislation would have no effect on crimes or criminal activity. We need to fully utilize the tools in place to have a positive effect in our community. Read the full bill here: http://www.leg.state.vt.us/docs/2014/bills/Intro/H-124.pdf

  • Require Protection from Backflow of Toxic Chemicals into Our Drinking Water
The backflow of toxic de-scalars and other toxic chemicals from boilers into the water used for drinking, cooking or bathing leads to ill health in those who use the water. The chemicals damage every organ in the body, potentially causing permanent disability and even death. One of the most egregious cases in Illinois was backflow of toxic chemicals from a morgue into the drinking water of school children.

  • Stop zoning for Sonic Food in Lutherville, Maryland
I live on Belfast Road, I really enjoy our community. I am worried about the amount of traffic Sonic will bring on Belfast Road, and Vista Ave. Plus, the amount of trash Fast Food Chains bring from there carry out will cause pollution in our neighborhood. Since I am in walking distance, I rather not listen to sonic music that is 24/7, while I am at home with my family. Please lets not allow Sonic American Drive In, on a residential property and In our residential community.

  • Accept Available Federal Funds to Cover NC Un-Insured
The NC Legislature is poised to refuse tens of millions of federal dollars to provide health insurance coverage for 100,000-plus un-insured low-income people. Tell the Legislature and Governor that healthy citizens are essential for a healthy economy and to accept this money and expand coverage for those that need it the most.

  • SIMPLE MAJORITY LEGISLATURE VOTE (51%) FOR TAX CHANGES
TAXES: While democrats and republicans in the California Legislature squared off against each other over balancing the state's budget, the state incurred penalties of millions of dollars per day until the issue was resolved. While we have a democrat super majority, let's get this done immediately. No politician wants to face the wrath of the constituency after taking the pocket books of the voters for granted, but sometimes, we need tax increases. We elect leaders to make these decisions. Democrats should not assume the most recent quick balanced budget is a sign of prosperity forever. I would also ask the legislature to require all future ballot initiatives to come with the plan to pay for their implementation... especially if that initiative is from the public.
