• Governor Bentley: Accept Federal Medicaid Funds or Face Discipline as a Doctor Politician for obs...
Hi, Last year, Governor Robert Julian Bentley MD announced that he would not accept new federal dollars to expand the state's Medicaid program. By rejecting these funds, over 300,000 Alabamians will be uninsured. Tell Governor Bentley to reverse course and accept federal Medicaid dollars and protect the 300,000 Alabamians that would benefit or face being disciplined for obstructing health care to so many Alabamians. That's why I signed a petition to Governor Robert Julian Bentley MD, which says: "Over 16% of Alabama residents don't have health insurance, including many children. By rejecting Medicaid expansion funds from the federal government, you are obstructing over 300,000 Alabamians who would benefit from this healthcare. Please reverse course and accept the federal Medicaid dollars and help Alabamians in need of basic healthcare, and stand by your ethics as a Physician politician."

  • Give them a chance at the American Dream
Many of the people we see working around our state day after day are people who are working for a better life. Maybe they are the children of someone who came earlier, or maybe they have children who want a chance to live the American dream. People who are working productively in our society should have a chance to move toward citizenship. We need to support the President's plans for immigration reform.

  • Let People with Disabilities Have a Voice
My sister has a trustee that hasn't been doing what is best for her as beneficiary of a Special Needs Trust. People with disabilities should have rights just like any other individual. Including the right to remove a trustee if they feel that what the trustee has done is not in their best interest and the right to make decisions regarding their trust.

  • NC Governor Threatens Liberal Arts Funding in NC Colleges and Universities
On January 29th Governor Pat McCrory said publicly he would propose legislation to overhaul the way higher education is funded in North Carolina, putting the emphasis on job creation not liberal arts. Referring to a hypothetical gender studies course, McCrory said, "That's a subsidized course. If you want to take gender studies that's fine, go to a private school and take it. But I don't want to subsidize that if that's not going to get someone a job." The governor said he instructed his staff Monday to draft legislation that would change how much state money universities and community colleges receive, "not based on how many butts in seats but how many of those butts can get jobs."

  • Rep. Sam Johnson: Support immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship
ABC News recently reported that Congressman Sam Johnson from Plano, Texas is working with a bipartisan group in Congress on an immigration reform proposal. This means Rep. Johnson will have a major role fixing our broken immigration system. We need Rep. Johnson to support a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million immigrants currently living in the United State without papers. Most of these immigrants have lived in this country for more than a decade and have come to America to seek a better life for their families. They are Americans-in-waiting who are ready to fulfill the requirements of our citizenship process - to study English, pay taxes, maintain a good record and be of good moral character. Instead of focusing only on the border, we need a new approach that is better for families and makes more economic sense.

  • Corporate Profits at Taxpayer Expense
I recently read that while Walmart reaps the largest profits on the planet, 80% of its employees receive food stamps. This is wrong! The taxpayer is, in essence, subsidizing these outrageous corporate profits and CEO salaries through public assistance programs such as food stamps and health care. This could be stopped.

  • We Demand Amgen Give Back Its Congressional Giveaway
Pharmaceutical giant Amgen leveraged 74 Washington, D.C. lobbyists and more to extract a $500 million giveaway from Medicare in the so-called "fiscal cliff" deal. This is lavish and corrupt corporate welfare at its most insidious. We may not have our own lobbyists, but Amgen owes it to us -- their customers -- to use their own expensive lobbyists to give back the very giveaway they just wheedled out of Congress. Build public pressure to stop this needless giveaway by telling Amgen Chairman and CEO Robert Bradway to give back the taxpayer dollars his company extracted from Medicare in the recent fiscal deal.
