The entire nation has been overwhelmed by the gun violence inflicted upon children and staff at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. This “Shine a Star” concept was conceived at a recent MoveOn-sponsored candlelight vigil held in Hawaii.

Recap from 2012: Mass murder at a crowed movie theatre on July 20, innocent people at the Sikh temple on August 5, and now the butchering of children and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary school on December 14— how can we stop this gun violence? Deter or Stop the Shooter! Each State would pass legislation that creates local city laws that is enforced by a City Zoning Officers which would require that a security guard(s ) must be present at all private and public lands and/or buildings as a condition of operation. Similar codes/laws have been passed for handicap access, and the same can be achieved to protect our families, friends, and fellow citizens in public spaces. All Public grounds such as: schools, parks, religious buildings, recreation facilities; as well as businesses with a certificate of occupancy and/or conditional use permit which operates primarily for financial gain would have to comply with this public safety standard of providing a security guard (s) such as but not limited to: shopping, dining, amusement, and sporting establishments. Both private and public entities that fall under this city ordinance will have a Security guard(s) on premises at all times during normal business or operating hours. Security guard(s) shall be charged with preventing violations of law and shall be uniformed in such a manner so as to be readily identifiable as security guards by the public and shall be duly licensed as security guards as required by the applicable provisions of State law. No security guard shall perform any other duties while acting as a security guard.

President Obama made an offer to Republican John Boehner to cut Social Security benefits and leave in place some of the Bush tax cuts for the top 2%. As the rich get rich the poor get poorer, and as the years pass a cuts will increase thereafter. Retirees will loose benefits that cover medicine, food, and other daily necessities. We need to protect every citizens' health and prosperity. We need to urge the Senate to reject this proposal and protect Social Security. Social Security Cuts and chained CPI will reduce benefits and income to seniors. This will severely hurt me over the years, plus many folks on social security living merely on this income and those on disability. Please increase the cost of living for seniors instead of decreasing it, as it is almost impossible to keep up with the cost of living and food prices and utilities as it is now. Thanks.

For the last six years, this bureau has lacked a permanent leader, hamstrung by the Senate's refusal to act on a confirmation. This has impacted the ability of the ATF to enforce firearms laws that are in place, computerize databases of gun owners, and respond to the powerful NRA lobby in Washington. Your senators should be acting in your best interests, not a lobby group.

This petition is about Gun Control Laws taking away the rights of All Americans when in fact these laws that limit what rifles we can own, what ammunition we can own, how many rounds a magazine can hold, etc, will do nothing to stop another mass murder event from happening again. This petition is here to say don't punish the good people of the country when it won't stop the evil from happening again.

I am 76 years old and I depend on these programs

The proposed 5 percent social security benefit cuts would have a direct impact on my current lifestyle as a retiree. I believe this would negatively impact most retirees as we are living on a fixed income, I strongly oppose any cuts to the social security and medicare benefits, and these proposed cuts should be stopped immediately.

McDonald's is twisting the arms of franchisees to be open Christmas day. I suggest a movement to call your local franchise and tell then you will eat there during the holidays only if they will close Christmas day (and eat there more if they also close early Christmas Eve). Not a religious matter for me. A matter of employees having the ability to chose what meets their needs.

Our country continues to witness horrific crimes of violence.The unthinkable is now our reality.How much more has to happen before people realize God should have never been taken out of our communities and schools? Since God has been taken out of our schools,and communities,school crimes and shootings not only began,but increased.Communities don't feel as safe,and senseless events occur more than ever.How many more lives must be taken? How many more crimes must be committed before the realization becomes clear.WE NEED GOD BACK IN OUR SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES! Please sign and help rid the world of evil with the power of God.

If Social Security is cut now or in years to come, I and many other seniors may be unable to afford food, shelter, transportation, health care, medicine and other essential needs. Not everybody has a pension.
