    Seniors & others receiving SS benefits would be extremely negatively impacted by ANY SS cuts. Personally, I would not be able to stay in my home, feed or clothe myself and would eventually end up a homeless "street" person, God forbid.

  • NO cuts in Social Security or breaks for the 2%!
    As a retiree living primarily on Social Security, I am concerned about any "bargains" made by the White House with Congress that diminishes payments to people like me in an economy where prices and the cost of living continue to rise across the board. Moreover, the top 2% do NOT need any more tax breaks, and the Bush tax cuts should NOT be extended!

    I have two very small pensions that help but the bulk of our expenses are paid from our Social Security checks. If they are cut we will be out on the street. Please help us and those like us to live the rest of our lives in our own homes and to be self supporting. We worked and paid into Social Security for this privilege.

    Originally the intent of Social Security was intended as a safety net for individuals and families without generous pensions and paid health benefits. Instead of cutting these benefits for all, we should eliminate or drastically cut them for those wealthier individuals for whom this "safety net" was never intended.

  • Preservation of Social Security Benefits
    As retired public school teachers, my husband and I know personally how much seniors rely on the benefits of Social Security especially after seeing our 403B savings dwindle in recent years. We are already making hard choices everyday such as whether to buy medications or gasoline for visiting our grandchildren in order to balance our budget. We are not the ones who should be asked to sacrifice further due to our government's inability to balance theirs.

    President Barack Obama has offered to cut Social Security benefits to some of the most needy citizens, while retaining the Bush tax cuts to the rich as a means of avoiding the "fiscal cliff." The Republicans now state "we're getting closer to avoiding the cliff with this offer," but they continue to seek further cuts in the "entitlement" programs.     President Obama made an offer to Republican John Boehner to cut Social Security benefits and leave in place some of the Bush tax cuts for the top 2%. The cuts in Social Security would amount to "a cut of more than 5 percent and more as the years go by".
