• The Problem with Detroit
The biggest problem is actually rampant, unchecked crime because of the small number of police officers. When we call 911, there is no hope of the police showing up.

  • Fix Voter Disenfranchisement in Health Care Facilities
When I was admitted to the hospital a week before Election Day, I tried to get an absentee ballot filed in time. The hospital had no accommodation to help people who wanted to vote. Although extraordinary accommodations were made for Hurricane Sandy victims, the effort did not reach the hospitals. One local politician tried to help, but to no avail, due to lack of coordination between counties. I was upset with the failure of the system. Luckily, though, my candidates won. This issue needs to be addressed for voters who may find themselves in similar situations, in future elections.

  • STOP USPS' OVERBEARING WORKING CONDITIONS!!
My mother has worked 25 years for the USPS in the Buffalo area in WNY (Western New York). Hoping to retire after 30 years, she is still treated like a mail carrier half her age and required to work 10-12 hour shifts all because the station she works at has a hiring freeze. The station MUST hire younger mail carriers so that the senior carriers have less of a workload and be able to retire in relatively good health.

  • Put political robo calls on the Wisconsin No Call List
During the last election cycle our homes were inundated with political campaign calls. Most people do not want to receive these calls. People should have an opportunity to put their telephone numbers on a No Call List.

  • Pass the Violence Against Women Act Now!
Time is running out for the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). If Congress fails to act this year--which could happen if we don't speak out--shelters, hotlines and other critical services could run out of money in the next few months. Earlier this year, a bipartisan majority of Senators passed a VAWA reauthorization bill that would have expanded protections to some of the most vulnerable communities, including LGBT, immigrant and Native American populations. Conservatives in the House not only blocked it--they took the unprecedented step of rolling back protections that have been on the books for years. Now conservatives in the House are facing increased pressure to do the right thing and vote on the Senate version. Can you tell Congress to pass the expanded Violence Against Women Act right away?
