• My hospital is deceptive and unfair in debt collection
After my mom was transported to Grace Hospital and later to another hospital, I received a receipt showing Grace Hospital had billed over 9-thousand and 5-hundred dollars, and collected more than $9200.00 dollars for a little more than two hours my mom was hospitialized. Then instead of "mailing" an 'ordinary' bill to collect $320.31 in addition to the more than 9-thousand, 2-hundred dollars already collected, Grace Hospital 'FILED' a claim against my mom's estate only a few days after it was opened ! An associate counsel attorney at Grace Hospital continues to tell every agency I have reported this to that what Grace Hospital DID was it's policy ! I am in disbelief that ANY business especially a "Non-Profit" community built hospital would do such a disrespectful thing to a family member. This NEEDS to STOP !! Grace Hospital has the same ability as does any other business to collect a debt, they should not ever force a surviving family member to stop grieving the loss of a mom or dad or ANY family member. If you have been treated in a disrespectful way by Grace Hospital for any reason, I ask that you sign this petition. This is the only way a change can take place in how the public is treated by it's community hospital.

  • Governor Martinez: Remind city councilors of their duty
In our recent election there was a vote on a proposal to raise the minimum wage in Albuquerque, it was passed by 66% of those who voted. There are two reasons for this petition, one the obvious; the evergaining discrepancy between the rich and the poor in this country, and the dire need for there to be something at least resembling a living wage in the city different. Two, and more importantly the need for the city council to do the job they were elected to do by representing their constituents. If the city council repeals a decision that voters overwhelmingly support it would not only fail the basic premise of that which is the United States 'Democracy' but far worse could lead to an eventual break-down in the political system thus into a potential revolution. I would sincerely ask that you urge the Albuquerque city council to vote with their constituents and not their own interests now and in the future.

  • HHS: Revisit the Evidence and Remove the Restrictions on Emergency Contraception
In December of 2011, the FDA was prepared to make emergency contraception accessible to consumers without restriction, based on more than a decade of medical research and policy debates. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius overruled the FDA, putting politics ahead of women’s health. Her decision created unnecessary confusion for women and couples at a moment when clarity and timing matter most. EC works best when taken within 72 hours and her ruling means many Americans are facing unnecessary obstacles. Women without identification, like some immigrants or women who don’t drive, cannot obtain the product. Men have been denied access as some pharmacists impose their personal beliefs on consumers. Doctors have been given misleading or false information when calling pharmacies on behalf of teen patients. Most importantly, no evidence suggests that making emergency contraception accessible leads to risky behavior among teens. What it does do is give teens a second chance to prevent and unintended pregnancy so they can stay in school. Medical experts, from the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to the New England Journal of Medicine, a former U.S. Surgeon General, and many others agree EC should be on-the-shelf and accessible without restriction. Emergency contraception is a safe, effective back-up method of birth control that can prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. A woman is healthiest when she can decide the timing and spacing of her pregnancies. Let’s ensure that any woman who needs EC can get it safely and quickly.

  • Social Security COLA
The President and Congress are talking about lowering the COLA, Cost of Living Adjustment of Social Security recipients who are retired or disabled. This reduction would be very hurtful as the formula they would adapt would eventually reduce the benefit so much as to be nonexistent. I am on Social Security disability for severe, chronic migraine headaches. I rely on this cost of living benefit each year. Without it I would not be able to keep my head above water. We need to speak up so that this benefit for the elderly, disabled and poor among us do not do the suffering while the rich just get richer.

"Obama Care" was a step in the right direction. But I believe it would have been recieved a lot better if the public already had an educated notion about the human costs of limited healthcare.I can name individuals off the top of my head that have died,in one way or another, because of their lack of insurance,so why not publicize these cases and bring a more human face to this unfair system.

  • Expand Representation in Government
I propose that the federal government lower the people per representative in the House of Representatives by expanding the number of representatives and make the House more accurately representative of the people. Back in the beginning of the Republic, the House had a case of less than 50,000 people per representative. Now each representative has over 600,000 people to serve. So I propose that We, the People enlarge the House to make it more representative of the People.
