Cancel Spectrum & Central Hudson BillsWe, the people of Ulster County, are facing unprecedented economic challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The systems we have operated within have been catastrophically disrupted and, in the process, we’ve seen just how tragically broken they were. Returning to the pre-COVID version of “normal” is not an option. In our society, electricity and internet access are basic needs, especially with many working from and schooling from home. Individuals and families are suffering from the impacts of Coronavirus—lost income, added expenses from being home, and stress from a global pandemic. COVID has hurt small businesses in dire ways. Business has slowed due to life-saving safety measures and illness, which has caused small businesses all across Ulster County to close their doors. Particularly, utility costs are crushing small businesses, causing them to make the horrible decision between making payroll for Ulster County residents and keeping the lights on. Meanwhile, Spectrum and Central Hudson are shutting down people’s service for non-payment. For Spectrum, First-quarter revenues increased to $11.7 billion. Profits reached about $396 million and their CEO made 98 million in 2016 while we struggle. Central Hudson’s parent company Fortis had 2019 revenue of $8.8 billion and total assets of $57 billion as of March 31, 2020. In the first two months of the pandemic, community members rallied around their neighbors experiencing financial hardship, by supporting the Radio Kingston Community Fund and raising over $400,000 to provide emergency financial support. Of these donations, $107,000 went directly to Central Hudson & Spectrum to thwart shut-offs. The people of Kingston cannot allow corporations to profit off our pain. We demand a cancellation of all internet and electric charges for Kingston residents.21 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Callie Jayne

Candidates Must Publicly Release All Their COVID-19 Test Results To Participate In DebatesChris Wallace, the moderator of the first presidential debate of the 2020 election, said that Donald Trump was not tested for COVID-19 before participating in the debate because he didn't show up on time. In fact, presidential candidates were accepted on the honor system and were not expected to show their coronavirus tests results to anyone. This is unacceptable and dangerous. Three days after the debate, Trump tested positive for COVID-19, and it's not clear whether he had already been infected at the time of the debate. Despite Trump’s positive test, and hospitalization, Trump nor the White House will release any information about his tests prior to Thursday’s positive test. Including when his last negative test was. And now, Donald Trump, who is currently infected with the coronavirus, is stating that he is ready to debate Joe Biden again. The CDC recommends that anyone who was admitted to a hospital and needed oxygen should stay in isolation for up to 20 days after their symptoms first appeared due to the risk of infection for others and should have 2 negative coronavirus tests in a row to be in the clear. No one should be put at risk again or have their word accepted on the honor system when it comes to a global pandemic, especially after Donald Trump has already potentially exposed numerous people to the coronavirus as a result of his irresponsible behavior. As a safety precaution, the Commission on Presidential Debates, the organization tasked with coordinating the general election debates, must take immediate action to ensure the safety of candidates and everyone attending the upcoming vice presidential and presidential debates. The vice presidential debate is scheduled for October 7, and the two remaining presidential debates are planned for October 15 and October 22. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the debates have become a life-or-death situation. The health of the presidential and vice presidential candidates and the safety of all involved in the debates are on the line. We cannot take this lightly.290 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Doug Gordon

Shut Down the MIRA Incinerator in HartfordBurning our garbage is unhealthy, expensive, and unsustainable. So are landfills. False solutions, like pyrolysis or gasification (other ways to burn garbage), waste-to-fuel schemes (WTF), local landfills, or hauling our garbage out of state are not the answer. We support and will work hard with community leaders and residents to implement Zero Waste solutions for Connecticut.135 of 200 SignaturesCreated by CT Coalition for Environmental Justice

Congress MUST secure the election!!!From Bob Woodward CNN 10/1/2020 Re the elections and U.S. democracy..." But the basic issue is, can you go out and vote in some coherent way? Can there be the high expectation, if not the inevitability, that your vote is going to be counted? The Congress has to do something. They can’t just sit by and say, oh, not our problem … where is the spine and where are the brains and where — sorry to use this, where is the moral compass for the country? Congress has it, and they can do something instantly if they can reach agreement. Good luck.” https://www.rawstory.com/2020/09/bob-woodward-calls-on-congress-to-secure-the-election-against-trump-where-is-the-spine/16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lynn Thomas

Financial Aid QualificationsThousands of students across America cannot afford college because unless you have a kid or are married, it goes off your parents income until you are 24 EVEN IF you can prove they do not financially support you. The message being sent is for young adults to have kids or get married and this IS WRONG. People should be able to get financial relief who support themselves and want an education.62 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Ashley Dixon

Keep PWCS Virtual Only for the 2nd QuarterNot only are we putting the safety and health of our students at risk, but we are also risking the health and safety of faculty, staff, and their families. In addition, the proposed 50/50 plan will create even more disruptions and confusion among the students, primarily our middle schoolers and high schoolers. It will also place extreme amounts of stress on the faculty and staff, who have adjusted and adapted countless lessons to a virtual-only setting, as they will need to undo and redo all of the planning already done. We ask that you please consider the physical and mental health of the students and faculty of your schools, as well as that of the families involved and that you let us gather more data before sending students back. Other schools in the area are electing to send students back; please do not give in to peer pressure. Maintain a virtual status quo and see what happens in those settings before we rush into decisions that we do not know the outcome. Addition 9/26/2020: We would like to add that the conditions have not changed since the vote in July. Of all of the counties in Virginia, Prince William County is second to Fairfax in the number of cases. In addition, we would be returning in November, just when the annual flu season is set to start. CDC experts suggest that Covid-19 cases could increase in November alongside flu cases. The combination of flu and Covid-19 cases could create a deadly combination, so we should be trying our best to limit exposure. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/covid-flu-season-collide/2020/09/04/23254d68-eb98-11ea-99a1-71343d03bc29_story.html2,439 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Jane Smith

We the People say vote NO for a new Supreme Court Justice to replace RBG at this time. You were very vocal and critical in 2016, when faced with the prior administration attempting to nominate a new Supreme Court Justice when the Honorable deceased Justice Scalia, needed to be replaced. Please listen to your own words. You did the right thing then, and now you have reversed your direction due to a self serving interest. When doing the right thing before, and you make an about face, It becomes the "WRONG THING". We The People want to know, why an about face for 2020? Please salvage the legacy and the dying wish of our Honorable Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Please do not let the 2020 GOP Senators be remembered in the history books as self serving and two faced. Please vote NO to ramrodding a new Supreme Court Justice. Please wait a short time and let the people choose.18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mickey Wasserman

Trump Appointees on Supreme Court Must Recuse Themselves from 2020 Election DecisionsSince Justice Ginsburg's death, one of the issues that has been raised frequently has been the possibility of a legal battle surrounding the results of the 2020 election, which would need to be decided by the Supreme Court. While we like to think of the Supreme Court Justices as being objective, dispassionate arbiters of the law, the reality is that they are still human. As such, they are still subject to the same human flaws as the rest of us, including interpreting the same facts differently based on their emotions. This is not to suggest that any of the Justices would do this intentionally, just to acknowledge that, like all other humans, emotional involvement in a situation may make it harder to judge that situation objectively. With regard to the upcoming Presidential election, emotional involvement is likely to be strong for everyone, but even more so for those Justices who were appointed to their position by one of the candidates in this same election - President Trump. Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, and possibly a third Justice, have a different relationship with President Trump than do any of the other Justices. This relationship affects how they perceive the President, and how they will perceive any potential legal issues involved in the upcoming election. It is unfair to them demand that they maintain the same level of objectivity as their colleagues, and equally unfair to the rest of the country to let our future be swayed by this loss of objectivity. As such, the ethical action must be that the Trump-appointed Justices recuse themselves from any Supreme Court decision relating to this election.111 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Josh Feldblyum
