• Urban Sustainable Organic Food & Farming Project
Food production space is so valuable these days since so many of our public spaces are losing funding and being shut down. And as organic healthy food becomes more expensive and health issues continue to rise, we work to rebuild health access to good food. Our farms will be places built to grow affordable delicious, healthy organic food and to provide educational workshops for the communities with which we work. Our Urban Farms will also be a source of education, training, innovation and community pride. We will utilize environmentally friendly equipment, systems and techniques.

  • Rep. Benishek: Don't blame the unemployed!
Congressman Dan Benishek visited Escanaba last week as part of his 100 Businesses in 100 Days tour. There, he said that unemployment is high because "people don't want to work." Our country is undergoing one of the worst recessions in decades. Many hard-working and qualified people in the 99% are out of work, and Michigan has been hit harder than almost any other state. THAT is why people are unemployed. It's NOT because those who live up north are lazy and don't want to work. If you believe that Michiganders are hard-working, and believe that Rep. Benishek should retract his statement, sign the petition!

  • Electoral Reform Coalition, end the two-party duopoly
The two-party winner-take-all electoral system is not a great idea, and everyone knows it. It's divisive, simplistic, corruptible and undemocratic. Our winner-take-all electoral system allows only two parties. They become massive, corruptible, and broad in their rhetoric but minimal in their differences. Around the nation, most voters view their opposition party as tyrannical and evil, while their chosen party is simply “the lesser of two evils.” They do not vote for a third party, even one closer to their political ideology, because it is viewed as a wasted vote. That is not democracy. In 2012, only vote for Electoral Reform Coalition candidates who will make their first priority to advance democracy for all Americans through a more representative form of elections.

  • Save Mass. beverage container redemption centers
The state’s redemption centers are at the very heart of the Bottle Bill, handling one-third of the program’s total volume. Their operating costs are covered by the bottlers–not by taxpayers, but they haven’t had a raise in 14 years. With half of them now out of business, tell Mass Environmental Secretary Richard Sullivan to give the redemption centers a raise without further delay!

  • Candidate for Public Office Code of Ethics
I modified the code of ethics of a major international organization to make it appropriate for candidates for public office. Grover Norquist was successful in shaming Republican candidates into signing his no-tax pledge. Let's see if we can shame candidates from BOTH political parties to sign on to this Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

  • Hey Facebook, turn over our files
Given the enormous amount of highly personal data they gather and market, Facebook, Google and LinkedIn must be held accountable. Without the ability to challenge errors and remove sensitive information, we’re reduced to an algorithm’s assessment of who we are — right, wrong or damning. The government forces credit-rating firms to reveal our financial dossiers once a year at no charge. It should demand similar accountability from data aggregators.

  • No War on Syria
The US is pushing for yet another war of choice, this time in Syria, with the encouragement of powerful lobbies. Only we, the American people, can stop it in the same way that we are stopping the Iran war through our voices.

  • Stop the Rudeness!!
When the President of the United States is making a speech, particularly, on the White House Lawn; he/she should not be interrupted by heckler types. Stop the Rudeness!! We have all seen the rude behavior exhibited by NEIL MUNRO of "The Daily Caller", when President Obama was in the middle of his statement providing temporary relief for the “Dreamers”. I, for one, believe any news reporter who cannot restrain themselves, should in fact, be restrained. There is a thin line between free speech and total disrespect of our Commander in Chief. That being the case, I am asking that once any President has requested that all reporters wait until after a speech is made, to ask questions; that any variance could be prosecuted. If not prosecuted, by a fine and/or imprisonment; at the very least, said reporter should never be allowed to attend another press conference of the President they offended. During the Obama administration, many U.S. citizens have been appalled and outraged by the continued disrespect and obstructionism, presented by those opposing anything he proposes. Seeing these things transpire, has made us more aware there should be laws protecting any presiding President in the future, when giving speeches to his/her constituents. For now, we ask that NEIL MUNRO be barred from any further press conferences involving the President of the United States. Further, since it was a commendable action according to his employer, Tucker Carlson; I would ask that "The Daily Caller" be excluded entirely. As I am uncertain as to the legalities surrounding a punitive law, I believe it is still within Constitutional guidelines to demand respect for the President of the United States at a press conference. I also believe, barring a heckler who had previously been warned, is not a violation of his Constitutional Rights, but more of a common courtesy requirement.
