• EVERY representative must support the impeachment inquiry
U.S. House Republicans cannot sit quietly by as President Trump puts our democracy in jeopardy. By now, most Americans have heard about the shocking evidence that Trump illegally colluded with the Ukranian president -- and abused his power to obtain a foreign government investigation into a political rival to help himself get re-elected. In response to this and other potential crimes, the U.S. House launched an impeachment inquiry into the president. And members of Congress from both sides of the aisle have a constitutional duty to uncover the truth -- and rein in our lawless president -- by voicing their support for this investigation. Republicans must STOP putting their party before the security and integrity of this nation. We need a strong, unified response from Congress to President Trump’s attempts to undermine our democracy. Add your name to urge House Republicans to publicly support the impeachment inquiry -- and hold the president accountable.

  • Hold uncooperative Trump officials in contempt
President Trump is once again putting himself above the law, claiming the House’s impeachment inquiry is "illegitimate" and "unconstitutional" and refusing to comply with any inquiry-related subpoenas. Despite the president's obstinacy, the House must do everything it can to make sure the inquiry moves forward -- and that any Trump administration officials who are implicated by it are held accountable. That includes holding anyone who attempts to obstruct the investigation "in contempt" -- a serious procedure that can result in fines and even jail time for uncooperative witnesses. This administration has proven that subpoenas alone won't be enough. Congress must use every tool it has to rein in this president who consistently abuses his power -- and show a strong, unified response to the administration’s obstruction. Add your name to tell Congress: hold any Trump official who refuses to comply with the House’s impeachment inquiry in contempt.

  • Protect the Sonoran Desert Tortoise from Extinction!
The Sonoran desert tortoise is a newly recognized species of tortoise found in the desert scrub habitats in Arizona and Mexico, east and south of the Colorado River. In 2010, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found in a preliminary assessment the tortoise was warranted for endangered species act protections. In 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 further reviews reaffirmed the warranted finding. Despite the findings, in 2015 the Service reversed its position and denied protections for the Sonoran desert tortoise. These unique desert animals need legal protections to escape extinction. The Western Environmental Law Center is a nonprofit, public-interest environmental law firm and our expert attorneys will use the full power of the law to take the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to court to force the agency to reconsider its ill-informed decision to not list the Sonoran desert tortoise under the Endangered Species Act.

  • Atatiana Jefferson deserves justice NOW
Black people cannot go a single day without having to bear the pain of knowing we are not safe even in the comfort of our own homes in this country. Another white police officer in Texas has killed a Black person doing nothing but relaxing in their own home, only a couple weeks after the sentencing of Amber Guyger. Atatiana Jefferson, a 28-year-old pre-med student, was at home playing video games with her nephew when police were dispatched to her home after a neighbor noticed her doors were open late at night. He wanted someone to check and make sure she was okay. Instead of making a quick safety check, the police arrived, saw Atatiana moving inside her own home and the officer, who did not self-identify as an officer, yelled "put your hands up" from outside and shot into her window within seconds. He gave Atatiana no time to comply, and no warning. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Within 24 hours, the mayor released body-cam footage of the incident and said the officer was being placed on administrative leave. But that's not nearly enough. Every single time police kill Black people with impunity, they are given time to alter their story, time to villainize the victim, time to figure out how they will escape accountability this time. And we've had enough. Atatiana Jefferson deserves justice NOW. This police officer shouldn't get to remain anonymous and they shouldn't get to stay on the payroll while Atatiana's family has to reckon with the fact that their aunt, sister, and daughter is gone and never coming back. We know we can't rely on the police to investigate themselves nor can we rely on the corrupt district attorney in Tarrant County. DA Sharen Wilson has refused to prosecute killer cops before--most recently in the killing of O'Shae Terry. And she's the same district attorney who prosecuted Crystal Mason, a Black woman who was criminally charged for voting in the election. Sign the petition and help us demand justice for Atatiana. We're calling for: -The officer's identity be revealed and that they are fired immediately. -An independent criminal investigation and the appointment of a special prosecutor. We can't rely on the police to investigate themselves. And we can't rely on Tarrant County DA to deliver justice in this case.

  • Support a Fair Contract for GSU Professors and Staff
During the state budget crisis of 2015-17, UPI members made financial sacrifices to keep the university running and tuition low. These professionals showed dedication to the educational needs of working class, immigrant, African American, veteran, women, youth, and LGBTQIA+ students. They stood for us; now it’s time to have their back.

  • #Save the Kurds
The Kurds have been our allies in the Middle East, fighting alongside us against Isis and other terrorist organizations for decades. They've done the brunt of the ground fighting in Syria. It is demoralizing for our soldiers to watch their brothers in arms die helplessly and from the inaction of their own government. This situation is directly attributable to Trump's actions and needs to be reversed immediately. The Turks are bent on exterminating the Kurds and repopulating the area where the Kurds have historically lived. DO NOT allow this to happen in the name of the American people. Demand that Congress take action to stop the slaughter of our Kurdish Allies IMMEDIATELY!!

  • Stop USA arms, soldiers and nuclear technology from moving to Saudi Arabia. Remember who financed...
9-11 was a horrible attack brazenly on the people of the United States of America financed by the wealth of Saudi Arabian royalty. But a scant decade later, to fill his greedy pockets, Donald Trump, against the will of Congress and with no regard for the impact on We, The People, he is sending our soldiers, our military and nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia. In exchange Trump will profit from real estate deals, profit from the corporations signing contracts with Saudi Arabia for this debacle, corporations already bribing Trump & his businesses. How can the United States Senate stand by and allow a sworn enemy to have our military might at their disposal? We MUST NOT be silent. Either Trump ceases to be a profiteering monster-in-charge or we must IMPEACH him NOW!

  • No UFA dues to the IAFF.
The UFA pays the IAFF over 1.2 million per year from the UFA general fund. The IAFF dues are recorded as a tax. The IAFF has done nothing for the UFA membership that the UFA can't do for itself.

  • Installation of Backup Generator for Lantos Tunnels
Thanks to everyone who signed this petition! Each and every person made a huge impact for quick action and responses. Please see this update I received today from Caltrans on the timeline for installation: Hi Heather – Caltrans is working on a project to install a 3-megawatt generator at the Lantos Tunnel. In fact, Caltrans engineers met with staff from Caterpillar Corporation today, going over design specifications for the generator that will be installed at the Tunnel Operations Center. A generator of its size will take some time to develop, build, and install. Currently, we are in the design phase. After the design specifications are delivered, Caterpillar will custom-build the generator. Caltrans and Caterpillar will work together to install the generator onsite. All tolled, the process with taken 8-12 months. The generator will have more than enough power to run the tunnel systems, including the jets fans, in the event of a power outage. If you have other questions, please send me an email or give me a call. Sincerely Jeff Weiss FYI: I've also added this same petition to the Change website. (URL below.) Officials will continue to receive updates from either petition; I'm combining and sending both lists to them now and an ongoing daily basis as new names are added. No names or comments will be lost! You can sign either one and I'll make sure it's communicated. I did this because MoveOn *will* add you to a political email list so I wanted to provide an option if you are not comfortable with that. You can always unsubscribe at the end of the email. ALTERNATIVE PETITION: http://chng.it/nYV8KM46cV (Copy and paste into browser) With the recent PG&E shutdown, it became apparent that the Lantos Tunnels do not have a backup generator and there are no plans to install one. The tunnels cannot be open without electricity. It’s imperative that a backup generator is installed because the tunnels are a lifeline for thousands of Coastside residents. If electricity is not available after an earthquake or any other emergency, residents will be left in a desperate situation. There is also the major economic impact as it is part of a major north-south artery in San Mateo county. Please sign this petition that directly asks Caltrans and elected local, state, and Congress officials to put the safety of Coastside residents first with the common-sense installation of a permanent backup generator for the Lantos Tunnels.

  • Let's get Facebook to Stop Allowing Lie-Filled Political Ads!
Facebook's Ad policy to allow lie-filled political ads is blatant, anti-democracy propagandist tactics allowing the dissemination of lies. When Biden's Campaign asked FB to remove an ad with false, unproven slander against Biden, FB responded "grounded in Facebook's fundamental belief in free expression, respect for the democratic process, and belief that in mature democracies with a free press, political speech is already arguably the most scrutinized speech there is." Yes, Facebook, and there is a reason for that: the Trump Administration's spreading of lies and false information is at an all-time high. Your help in spreading false information to influence public opinion poisons the public discourse and chips away at our democracy. A democracy should fight against the spreading of lies and slandering. Zuckerberg is off the rails with this.
