Trump announced that he plans to station U.S. troops at Syrian oil fields — indefinitely — to "secure the oil" and steal it. It may all seem like just another Trump absurdity. Perhaps a way to distract from his greenlighting of Turkey’s attack on Syrian Kurds, or even his own impeachment troubles. But Trump seems deadly serious — and that’s terrifying. From Iraq to Venezuela to Syria, Trump has openly talked about stealing other countries' oil. And now he's pledging to use the U.S. military to do just that. But let’s be crystal clear, this is illegal and unconstitutional. Here’s the thing. The way this is supposed to work, is Congress decides when and where and whether the U.S. goes to war. It’s a bedrock of our constitutional system of checks and balances — exactly to protect against this kind of disgusting mission. That's why we need to make Congress do its job and block Trump's reckless, exploitative, and destructive foreign policy in Syria. And that means getting loud RIGHT NOW.

Trump may hold the record for the number of FERC Commissioners he's been able to appoint within three years. James Danly is his sixth nominee to the 5-member commission. One of his appointees only stayed a year and another passed away shortly after becoming FERC's chairman. With the exception of the very competent Richard Glick, who Trump appointed to one of the two Democratic seats, his appointees have continued the tradition of rubber-stamping natural gas projects and have ignored even the courts that have told them to consider climate impacts. “And last week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit chastised FERC for its ‘decidedly less-than-dogged efforts to obtain the information it says it would need to determine that downstream greenhouse-gas emissions qualify as a reasonably foreseeable indirect effect’ of a project (Energywire, June 5).” Here we go again. James Danly's confirmation hearing has been scheduled for November 5th. “Evidence of Danly's [approach] might be found in his leading the commission last year [as FERC General Counsel] to abandon the approach it had employed toward evaluating the effects of downstream greenhouse gas emissions from natural gas projects, using authority found in the National Environmental Policy Act." The spread of false information is prevalent and damaging, and most of it is aimed at personal attacks for political gain. It is estimated that 45% of people get at least some news from Facebook and half of those get it ONLY from Facebook. Mr. Zuckerberg announced that they will do NO fact-checking during this election cycle. In the absence of that, we must demand a responsible approach.

By not siding with the state of California, GM, Toyota, and Fiat-Chrysler are are not joining the fight against global warming. Cumberland Farms needs to stop serving coffee in foam cups. We all know how detrimental this product is to the environment and to the human body as well. It's unfathomable that in 2019 Cumby's is still exclusively using these toxic, polluting single-use cups, especially when their competitors have switched to more eco- and bio- friendly options. Their customers deserve better, as does the environment. Turkey relies on US weapons and ammunitions, and Congress has the ultimate say on who and where to sell them. We can stand up for the Kurdish people, as they’ve pleaded with us, and demand our members of Congress block all weapons and ammunition sales to Turkey. The Syrian Kurds worked side-by-side with US forces to fight ISIS, but Trump simply abandoned them to face a military onslaught from Turkey. But we don’t have to just sit and watch the news in horror while Turkey launches an brutal campaign against the Kurdish people. We can act!

Facebook is already interfering in our elections. But did you know that Zuckerberg has something even more terrifying in the works? It’s called Libra, and it’s a digital currency he would control. Experts say Libra is a huge threat to democracy and could take down the entire global economy. Facebook wants to shift control over our entire monetary system from central banks and democratically-elected governments to a private table of massive corporations. House Financial Services Chairwoman Maxine Waters and a coalition of grassroots groups like us have raised serious concerns about Facebook’s currency proposal. Libra threatens national sovereignty, consumer protections, a competitive market, and privacy rights. And its dark money system leaves it open for abuse by money launderers. Zuckerberg needs to be stopped.

And then for that child to be put into a freezing cage while Trump lawyers argue that they don’t deserve soap, blankets, or toothbrushes. DHS top employees like Taylor likely saw images of families in tears as they were torn apart, received detailed briefings on the psychological trauma it was causing, read internal reports of widespread sexual abuse and torture -- and CHOSE to work to keep those inhumane policies going. Google’s motto is famously, “don’t be evil.” For all the traumatized families and children -- including the six children who died in U.S. custody -- here is your chance.
