  • No Nepotism in Chicago's 49th Ward
If you believe that government officials should earn their right to represent you through the standard electoral process, and should not be allowed the opportunity to slide into their positions through family connections (AKA nepotism), you'll want to sign this petition, which will be sent to Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

  • Stop corporate funded elections
I would like to discuss funding for the political campaigning system and how it needs to be revamped to a single pool of donations divided equally among candidates. No more pacs or super pacs supporting a single candidate. No more private and corporate funding for any individual candidate. I would like to see evenly funded campaigns, to create a level playing field for all candidates. No more dunce politicians soaking the political system while tarnishing our global image. Only genuine intelligent people that would be subjected to tests for competence and polygraphed to determine their intentions. Also to eliminate the 2 party system . No more Republicans or Democrats, no more Liberal or Conservative labels, just "American Politician". No more voting based on party decision just voting based on personal views. I'm not saying tea party either. I'm saying stop fighting with our selves and start doing whats right for the country and not whats best for your corporate sponsors or political gain.

  • Remove Ear Marking
I believe that earmarking is incredibly dishonest, rude, unconstitutional and undemocratic. It hides the true meaning of issues and it keeps the true issues from being solved. It is incredibly frustrating to hear that a bill is not being passed for something completely unrelated that was tacked on by a certain party. Until benchmarks are rid of, I feel that it is important for some bills to be passed despite the earmarks included. Until then, I ask you to please work to render earmarking illegal. It will be the greatest act you can do as a citizen of a democracy. This is true whether we succeed or not. Please see that justice, and not politics or face, must come out on top in every decision that we make as people, and as citizens of this country. Please see that justice, and not politics or face, must come out on top in every decision that we make as people, and that you make as a senator.

  • Stop Styrofoam Use at Dunkin' Donuts
Styrofoam takes 500 years to decompose. Dunkin' Donuts uses styrofoam coffee cups in almost all its stores. Paper cups would function equally well and they are biodegradable and recyclable.

  • Lower interest rates on student loans
The interest rates on student loans are very high which makes it hard for students who would like to pay them back after graduation. Instead of making it possible for students to repay the loans by making the payments affordable, companies such as Sallie Mae will give a forbearance during which interest continues to accumulate and is added to your principle which is again charged interest. My loan for $47,000 has an interest of $57,000! The total reaching to over $100,000. Loaning banks should work with us on making payments affordable and have a low interest rate so that most of the payment goes to paying the principle. I don't believe that we can ever pay all out student loans under the current system.

  • Illegalize styrofoam in California
Styrofoam has run its course. There are many other materials that can be used in its place without the toxic side-effects for the planet (such as molded cardboard and corn starch "peanuts", paper plates, paper cups, etc.). Businesses and individuals can use other materials, whether it be for take-out, package insulation, serving drinks or foods warm, etc. If you're looking forward to not having styrofoam floating at the mouths of rivers, in storm drains, or around dumpsters anymore, and if you want to make sure wild animals don't mistake it for food anymore (and of course, there's the ozone hole...), join me to illegalize styrofoam in California.

  • No smoking in bus shelters
Maybe you've been there: You're sitting in a bus shelter -- the kinds with seats and roof, sometimes even walls -- and someone else lights up a cigarette. You get to inhale their secondhand smoke, even when it lingers after they've put it out. They tell you they have every right to smoke inside a bus shelter. Maybe they have so far, but we can change that, and have them step far enough away from the shelter that we won't be breathing their secondhand smoke even after they put the cigarette out, we won't still be breathing that smoke.
