• Limit the Filibuster
What was once a useful tool to prevent the majority from riding roughshod over the minority, in the Senate, has become a tool for preventing any work from being done and keeps the majority from meeting the needs of its constituents. It's time for the filibuster to change. If each party were limited to three filibusters, in each session of Congress, they would be used very cautiously and only for the most critical of reasons.

  • I want your resignation, Kansas Republican Mike O'Neill.
He doesn't deserve the office he was sworn to uphold. I was raised to have the utmost respect for the President of our Country..whether I agreed with his policies or not. He should be arrested for death threats against our President, and his family.

  • City of Tucson - Move Your Money!
With a track record of mortgage abuses and unfair treatment of low income and minority customers, Wells Fargo does not represent the values of most Tucsonans. Yet the City of Tucson and the Rio Nuevo board invest a large portion of our community's money in Wells Fargo accounts. At the height of the sub-prime lending boom, Wells Fargo was 3-4 times more likely to loan sub-prime mortgages to financially stable Latinos and African-Americans than to Caucasians. In 2010, Wells was fined by a U.S. District Judge for its predatory overdraft practices. And Wells Fargo is one of only two remaining U.S. banks to offer Direct Deposit Advance, a type of high interest payday loan available right from the ATM machine, with marketing targeting low income and minority customers. Tucson deserves better! Let's call on the City of Tucson and Rio Nuevo to move OUR money out of Wells Fargo and back into our community through investment in a community bank!

  • Petition to immediately halt and invalidate the undemocratic and fraudulent election of the SEIU ...
On Friday, January 6, 2012, the day before the Citywide San Francisco Bargaining Team election voting began, the 1021 Union Administration quietly and without grounds removed Sin Yee Poon, a member who meets the eligibility requirements of being in good standing and employed by the City and County of San Francisco at the Human Services Agency, from the list of nominee for Bargaining Team and from the Election ballots. Sin Yee was duly nominated and had accepted the nomination. When members indicated that they would start a write-in campaign, the Union Administration promptly declared write-ins “unacceptable” and that it would “disqualify” such votes. This totally undemocratic action by the 1021 Union Administration again disrespects the rights and authority of the membership to elect the representatives of our choice that will best reflect and advocate for our interest, particularly during very important contract negotiations.

  • Bill S-2316
Please circulate this email and a list of instructions to all family members, staff (call from cell phones) and friends to call the NJ Governor’s office, refer to Bill S-2316 and express your OPPOSITION to the Bill. The Governor's Office general phone number is (609) 292-6000. You may call to express your opposition to the legislation and to request that the Governor veto the legislation. All you need do is ask the receptionist to put you in touch with someone who can log your opposition to the bill. Provide the bill number, your opposition to the bill, a request for a veto, and answer any questions asked. You should not get into a protracted conversation about the bill as the person who you will be put in touch with will likely have no idea what the bill is about. If the governor sign this bill into law, it will create the same chaos that New York has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ban Fireworks in Times of High Fire Danger
Hit by extreme drought, New Mexico suffered devastating forest fires this year, yet the Governor and local officials cannot ban the use and sale of fireworks when fire danger is high. The New Mexico legislature is considering a bill, SB 5, that would give the Governor, and city and county officials the ability to ban fireworks when fire danger is extreme. Call on your legislator to support the ban. The legislature is in session from January 17 to February 18.

  • Convicted Gang Members Are Domestic Terrorists
Gangs, from street gangs to motorcycle gangs to hate groups and the mafia, terrorize our communities through intimidation and force. They are just like terrorists and should be treated as such.

  • Corporations are not people, and do not have human rights.
The Supreme Court, by many decisions, has given corporations the same rights as people. The Citizens United decision, the most recent of many such decisions, clearly allows the unlimited wealth of corporations to determine the outcome of elections. I propose that we join Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont in sponsoring a constitutional amendment which puts limits on corporations, including this: "Corporations are not persons with constitutional rights equal to real people."

  • Whoa, Kris Kobach
This is a governmental petition to OPPOSE the proposed legislation by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach to move forward the new election laws for proof of citizenship when a first time voter applies for registration from January 1, 2013 to June 1, 2012, which enforces the citizenship requirement for the 2012 election. Kansas Secretary Kobach, the author for preventing aliens to vote by showing proof of citizenship, also known as the "Birth Certificate" law, has become zealot in thrusting ahead with legislation to change the effective date of his election laws so they will be in effect for the 2012 Primary and General Elections. Kansas legislators are being coerced to vote for the proposed legislation. It must be noted that the Kansas Secretary of State's Office does not recognize a governmental petition. Kansas University publications are for different states, not Kansas. In Kansas slang, Whoa, Kris Kobach. Hold on there partner. You are not a wild mustang. Leave your laws alone. We don't need your kind around here.

  • Adopt National Single Payer Health-Care
Petition to repeal Obama's health-care act and adopt a universal, tax funded single payer system for all. We can no longer afford the inefficiencies and periodic losses (job losses and changes, retirement, disability, rejection by insurance companies) of coverage associated with our disjoint mix of public and private health-care funding entities. We need the efficiencies and cradle to grave coverages that can only be provided by a system based on public funding and private service delivery.

  • A Petition to Allow Spouses and Minor Children to Join Medicare
Retired workers on Medicare often have spouses who are not covered by Medicare. On Occasion, they also may have minor children who are uncovered by Medicare. As a result, a family may have a fragmented health insurance situation, with the head of household on Medicare, a spouse under an expensive individual plan, and children who may be under school insurance plans. It is expensive and confusing. This petition would unite family coverage under a single Medicare coverage.
