When police at Ball State University, Indiana killed an unarmed man, family and friends demanded to know why the officer didn’t use less lethal options such as pepper spray or de-escalation techniques. The answer is simple. The fully armed and empowered police officer had yet to attend basic training. Shockingly, allowing untrained officers to work is perfectly legal. These nonsensical laws allow police in 37 states to have full authority to detain, arrest, incarcerate, or even kill without ever attending basic police training. As a former police officer who attended academies in three states, I learned the value of good training. While I find much of the training in need of improvement, there is nothing more troubling to me that the fact that police officers in more than 2/3rd of the US are permitted to work before the attending the basic academy. These states include: AL, AK, AR, FL, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MS, MO, MT, NB, NV, NH, NJ, NM, NY, ND, OK, OR, SC, SD, TN, TX, VT, VA, WA, WV, WI and WY The consequences of untrained police officers are too grave. Not only are these practices unsafe for the community but for the officers as well. I hope you’ll join me by signing this petition for congress to eliminate these exceptions and require police to receive the training they need before giving them power over life and death.

There is already a petition to rename the stretch of 5th Avenue in front of Trump tower between 56th and 57th Streets be renamed "President Barack H. Obama Avenue." which currently has 428,245 signatures. This is a very popular idea which has widespread appeal- every day there are more people signing that petition and the goal keeps getting reset as the number continues to rise. This shows that there is already public support for this idea. People want this to happen. Unfortunately, unless an exception is made which will allow for the renaming to occur despite the fact that Obama is currently still living or the rule that requires a person to have been deceased for 2 or more yrs at the time of the renaming is changed and the restriction no longer applies this idea will never become a reality

I took Sriracha Snack Mix Cheezits for granted. The day I noticed they weren’t on the shelf at my local Walmart, I could feel the worry beginning to build up within me. Each and every day I came back to see if they had returned.. I wasted hundreds of miles of gas driving store to store, frantically searching for my beloved treat. I would give up everything and everyone in my life to get just one hint of that sweet, spicy sriracha aroma. The Evans City Borough Council meetings are held on the first Monday of every month at 6 pm. This time is inconvenient for many residents, especially those who work outside the borough or those with young children. With the current meeting time, many residents feel discouraged and left in the dark as to what's going on in the community.

Through a hard time i have been having lately with an old friend, with him sending me threats, and pulling an ice pick out as "self dense" as he put it, toward me in a situation where i had no weapon or protection except my fiance, and my old friend had every intention that i was going to be alone. Not only did he have the ice pick but it was also concealed in his sock at first. I tried to get a protective order against him but all i could get was a 3-day protective order that i don't think he even received, and i couldn't get a longer one, nor was I taken seriously. I want this sharp object to be classified as a weapon so I can have a better piece of mind and hopefully follow up on getting a longer protective order.
