• Change must come
I have been personally affected by someone who was vindictive. I have never had to deal with the law for any reason. I got involved with someone who was an abuser, scammer and one who took advantage of young women who was down on their luck. Because I wanted no parts of it, my life became a living hell. This person abused me for years, and finally someone stepped in to help. Its unfortunate that people don't want to get involved when a person is being mistreated. Especially if they are married, and is from a foriegn country and solely depends on them. This person had me falsely arrested after he was arrested for physically attacking me, bit me, punched me, and tried to strangled me. After many years of being told that there's no one to help me, I didn't have family, or friends, and lived in complete isolation. I did not even know my address, what 911 was. And being told constantly after calling the cops for protection that cops are idiots, and that someone who was an engineer is smarter than a cops. They, would believe him every single time. "I can have sex with you whenever I want. The cops won't believe I raped you. You can't rape your wife" The cops would come, then he would say something and they would leave. I believed him. After that happened, I'm for sure I would die. I'm from a good family, never been arrested or even having to go to a court house. The ultimate goal was to have me deported by lying. Because I did not want to have a strip joint out of our house, nor I did not pretend to fall to sue large companies for money, or file false report to get money from the IRS. I have gone through therapy, tried to get my record seal, and according to the Florida law it can't be done. Yet, people with felony murder can get an expungement. I don't understand it. This has affected me in so many ways. The most damaging of it all is the psychological effect this has on me over the years. This happened over 14 years ago, and it's still affecting me. I spent so much money and can't get any where in life. I have gone back college. But, can't move up in position due to this misdemeanor on my record. Not only have this man raped me, physically, mentally and emotionally abused me, starved me , I could not watch TV, read any magazines or even talked to my family. I ended up getting arrested for something I did not do. I'm beyond frustrated, suicidal, and depressed. Because it doesn't matter how much education I received I can never get to the American dream, that seem to not exist for people who have served time for things they did not do, or do. How can people move on and make America a better place, when things such as this affected good hard working people who are trying to make a honest living. I would love to have a family someday. However. I don't see it happening if I will not be able to support that child. And I refuse to be a burden to the state or my family. Therefore I don't see any other option but to KILL myself. I have never flirted with the idea of suicide, but the whole thing just driving me mad. Not only did this person tried to get me deported by falsely having me detained, raped me countless time, my father passed away and I was homeless, being dragged to court every single day to no avail to the situation. I strongly believed in the law, had faith in our justice system, only to be let down. Time and time again. Key words " "Had faith in our justice system" . I did not have time to even grieve the death of my father, which haunts me to this day. This person sold my social security number, held on to my passport, and green card at the time, file for tax return under my name, opened several credit cards in my name and tried to damage my credit. I'm now an American citizen and it doesn't mean anything with an education if I can't get anywhere. Just imagine if this was you, or your daughter, your mother, or any family member. How would you feel? I have walked a straight line my entire life, only to be knocked off by a lie. With a broken system, with people who don't understand the struggles of the everyday absticles regular people such as myself face. I understand why people turned back to crime because, if they cannot get a job, a place to live, then what is the point, if they can get a hot meal in jail and a roof over their heads?. At least they know where they will be sleeping in prison. Now don't get me wrong, if I did do the crime, I definitely deserved the punishment. But, only to be sucked into a system that is broken, I have no faith. I'm at my wits end. This is my only and last hope. We have to change this law and make America a place where it can continue to grow, with people who are willing to do the work to build a better place for our future generation. Please do something to change this. Thank God I have broken the cycle of abuse and have chosen a better mate. But, this still means nothing If I cant get ahead. If my spouse, will be spouse less, if my mother will be daughter less, or my brothers and sister would be sister less, and America will be one less person to help make this place a better nation. Now, what are you going to do to change this? I'm 38 are you going to wait until I'm no longer of use to contribute? Not even if I won the lottery it would make a difference. I don't, drink or gamble so, winning the lottery is out of the question. Failed by the system.

  • Help save our pit bull !
Austin Minnesota's City Council Is trying to euthanized our dog. The city council didn't even talk to my mother when she pled her case and within 5 seconds deemed our dog aggressive and agreed for her to be put down. Rain is my 11-year-old sister's pit bull. The city council didn't even look at my mother's pictures of what we have done to help her! We set up appointments for her to be fixed, muzzle, reinforced our fence, and also looked into trainers. Rain ran under the fence and got into an altercation with our neighbor's dogs. which resulted in no blood being shed, no bite marks were found, just saliva on the dog's back. but we don't even know for sure if it was saliva or if the dog's back was wet from something else. Our neighbors don't try and talk to us to help us stop this. We love our dog and want to help her. Because Rain is a pitbull, she automatically is at fault. Austin MN city council is biased and should not be able to have dogs' lives in their hands! Please help us save our dog! My sister struggles with ADHD and anxiety and Rain helps her so much! Please help us save her!

  • #Suffrage16: Lower the Federal Voting Age to 16
We, as students, believe that youth deserve to have an active representation in our society and a voice in our democracy. If we can independently drive a vehicle, pay taxes, and enlist in the military then we can elect leaders whose decisions impact our futures. Young people are on the frontlines of every major political issue yet our government does not allow us to have a say in the things that will ultimately affect our generation. This must change.

  • Walmart should prioritize community safety over profits made from gun sales
After the recent tragic shootings in El Paso, its absolutely unthinkable that Walmart would continue to profit from gun sales. They must stop the sale of guns in their stores now! Companies like Dick's Sporting Goods and Salesforce have already taken actions to use their economic leverage to curb gun violence. Walmart is one of America's largest gun sellers and must be part of the movement to end gun violence. Please join with us and ask Doug McMillon, the Chief Executive of Walmart to stop the sale of guns in his stores now.

  • Insist that Former U.S. Presidents Publicly Condemn Donald Trump
Former Presidents are historically tight-lipped when it comes to criticizing successors to the Presidency. Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s hate and racism-soaked language, discriminatory policies, and venomous Twitter tantrums fuel the imaginations and provoke the actions of violent individuals. Average Americans are constantly asked to offer the ever-worthless thoughts and prayers, and fight for gun legislation at the grassroots level. At the same time, our supposed leader spews contempt for specific groups of human beings, and Congress nurtures the NRA and gun lobbyists. It is time for ALL living former Presidents who took an oath to protect and serve the United States to speak up. Most (if not all) of you regularly rake in millions of dollars based on your time in office - an office that American voters entrusted to you. Some of those voters are now dead - murdered in places like Orlando, Las Vegas, El Paso and Dayton. Have the courage and the common decency to break with this tradition of silence. Fight for us and with us. Call Donald Trump out BY NAME.

  • #USOpen: Reject Dictator Dollars! @USOpen
It upsets me deeply that the UAE monarchy abuses and kills thousands while sponsoring glamorous sporting events like the US Open. The United Arab Emirates is a brutal monarchy that has killed thousands of civilians in Yemen. The monarchy also imprisons human rights activists, opposes labor rights, and discriminates against women. 11 organizations are calling on the US Open and US Tennis Association to drop the UAE and reject the sponsorship dollars of the UAE-owned Emirates airline. • Protect Our Trails from Penelec
The James Mayer trails, where my family walks, runs and bikes, was recently targeted by herbicide spraying by Penelec. One side of the trail is now dead, including the milkweed necessary for our declining monarch butterfly population, the raspberry bushes my kids would grab berries from, and many more. If Penelec spent more time and care, they could manage their power lines in a way that preserved the environment for wildlife and our families.
