• Plastic Bag Ban
Single-use plastic bags are a growing problem. These bags are made from petrochemicals (polyethylene) and are often used only once and for a few minutes or seconds then thrown away (on average, 12 minutes), but stay in our landfills, rivers, streams, lakes, oceans, and environment for centuries. In 2010, 4 to 12 million metric tons of plastic entered waterways. These bags break down into thousands of plastic pieces and are now found in our drinking water as well as in the fish and seafood we eat. With the current use, by 2050, it is estimated that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Additionally, these plastic bags contaminate the land, kill wildlife, gather rainwater offering a perfect spot for mosquitoes that transmit diseases to reproduce, and pose a threat to machinery at recycling centers. We the undersigned, support the adoption of a local ordinance that will ban the use of single-use plastic bags with a long-term solution not to shift from plastic to paper, but to shift to durable reusable bags in the Town of Bennington, VT

  • Organ Donation Education Policy
To help educate the youth about organ donation before the day comes when they check yes or no to becoming an organ donor at the DMV. People are unaware of how just by checking yes it could save the lives of up to 8 people and take many off the organ donation waiting list. By requiring this program in all high schools, it will allow students to be informed on an important topic such as this one.

  • Reform to IRAIIRA and bring our family home
We are a family that has been directly affected by the bans put in place under the IRAIIRA of 1996. We need to bring awareness to the government and citizens alike how we are being affected and having to leave our country in order to keep our family together. We have had to give up our lives and our future to exile to Mexico.

  • Let's ratify the Equal Rights Amendment!
As a Baby Boomer who advocated for the ERA in the 70s, it is my wish that the ERA becomes the law of the land before I die! Only three more states need to ratify it...and that seems like an achievable goal. The Women's Movement is strong enough to make the ERA rise like a phoenix from the ashes. Our time is now!

  • Help Refugees- Inclusion Beyond All Borders: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywher...
One person becomes displaced across the globe every 2 seconds. By the end of 2017, there were 68.5 million individuals who were forcibly displaced, with 25.4 million being refugees, and 3.1 million being asylum seekers. There are more than 200 immigrant prisons and jails in the U.S. with corporations detaining approximately 15,000 people per day. The conditions of detention centers are appalling and can traumatize any individual who stays for a long period of time. As active citizens of the Land of the Free, we can and will not sit back and watch as the mistreatment of individuals continue. We must fight for what is right, for equality, tolerance and, more importantly, acceptance.

  • Low Cost College Education
This petition is to raise awareness of student debt in America, and help reduce it. This petition is to help change the way tuition is perceived throughout the country. If colleges only made a student pay the percentage of tuition that that student failed, then one would be led to believe the student would try harder. For example, if say, John, got an average of 86 percent for the year, John would only have to pay 14 percent of the tuition. But if John got an average of 67 percent for the year, then John would end up paying 33 percent of the tuition.

  • Executive Clemency for Richard Adderson
Richard Adderson has been serving a federal prison sentence for almost 13 years for a "conspiracy" charge due to there not being enough evidence for an actual distribution charge. Richard has NO prior drug convictions, felony convictions, nor prior prison incarcerations. He has served enough time to pay his debt to society, during which he suffered the loss of his mother, whom he was not given furlough to attend funeral services, and recently, his brother. He has 4 children, who have suffered the lack of having their father. He has had good conduct while incarcerated and feels as though the length of his sentence was too harsh for the crime committed. Overall, for the crime he was charged with, his debt to society has been paid in full. Richard respectfully requests an executive commutation, requesting early release. Help give this man the second chance he deserves to live a productive life in freedom. Thank you, sincerely, for your support.

  • Add your official comment: Stop Trump's cruel attack on immigrant families
**Please leave a comment to say why you oppose this policy change. Your comment will be delivered as an official public comment.** On October 10, the Trump administration unveiled a new proposed regulation that penalizes immigrant families for simply accessing basic needs to feed their children and keep their families healthy. Under the proposed regulation, the "public charge" rule would allow Trump to establish a rigged immigration system where green cards would only be available to the wealthy few while immigrant families — many with U.S. citizen children — with modest incomes could be denied the possibility of a permanent future together. The Trump administration is required by law to post this unjust proposed order on Regulations.gov for 60 days before finalizing the regulation, to give the public the opportunity to weigh in. If people like you and I post comments against the order, we stand a better chance of disrupting or even stopping it. We have until December 10 to submit as many comments as possible. When the Trump administration attacks marginalized communities, he attacks the character of our nation. People nationwide have taken a stand each time this administration has launched an attack on the most vulnerable among us and, now, it's time for us to take a stand again.

  • Send troops to assist wildfire victims in CA, not the border
I’ve started this petition because our national priorities as dictated by the White House don’t make any sense to me. Let us redirect the large movement of armed forces to instead help our California citizens in their hour of need. Let’s allow those who need economic and political asylum to apply for it legally.
