• Elect Barbara Lee to House Leadership
We are organizers who represent working-class communities of color all around America. Our government still does not represent the interests of our people, and we need leaders in Washington, D.C. who will fight for equity, justice, and peace. It’s time to put the #LeeInLeadership. The election is Wednesday, November 28th, so there’s no time to waste. Please sign today. In September 2001, every member of the House and Senate voted to give the president a blank check to fight endless wars. All except one, that is. Progressive champion Rep. Barbara Lee stood alone and predicted that the war would expand and damage America's moral reputation. Now, she is running to be Chair of the Democratic Caucus in the House of Representatives – and we need to make sure her colleagues understand the need for her progressive leadership, support her candidacy, and make her the first Black woman in the leadership of either Party. We need stronger leadership in the House, and Rep. Barbara Lee is the perfect choice. She is: - A consistent progressive champion who supports bold yet commonsense ideas like Medicare for All and a living wage. -A gutsy and principled representative who opposed the Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) in 2001 despite knowing the backlash would lead to death threats. -A proven leader who has led the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Congressional Black Caucus and been vice chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus. -A consensus builder and doer who has worked across the aisle in support of progressive goals like repealing the AUMF or saving lives by pushing to increase HIV/AIDS federal funding under Bush. -As Rep. Lee put it: “It’s time. African-American women have been the smartest and most loyal voters for the Democratic Party, and often we don’t get the recognition or the involvement at the highest levels.” Rep. Lee has already announced her candidacy for chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fifth-ranking position. We need to make our voices heard – and now, while representatives are still making up their minds. The election is Wednesday, November 28th, so we don’t have much time to convince the members of Congress that we need #LeeInLeadership. Tell House Democrats: Make Rep. Barbara Lee a caucus leader. Thank you for speaking out.

  • Peace Reconciliation: Save Liberia Moment
To maintain peace and prosperity in Liberia, Liberia must continue meditation processes in which the victim, the offender, and the other individuals or community members can actively participate in the mediation and resolution of past grievances. To continue restorative dimensions of their work, the TRC has created a Reconciliation Unit, which has engaged traditional religious leaders and solicited their views on the way forward for Liberia. We want a peaceful resolution.

  • Foster Farms: Open the Doors and Let Us Help the Starving Turkeys
DxE activists, as part of a 6 month investigation, have obtained footage of crowded sheds, dead or dying animals, and one turkey with a massive grapefruit-sized growth on her body at Foster Farms, one of the largest turkey producers in the world and a supplier to Costco. The company claims animal welfare is a “top priority” and is required by the organic program to give animals access to the outdoors. Yet multiple investigations by animal rights organizations, including this one at a facility near Modesto, CA, have found routine abuse of animals in crowded indoor sheds (who never step outside), sick animals, and decomposing corpses among the living. Investigators rushed one bird to veterinary care, where she received emergency surgery. Now the turkey, whom they named Eliza, is living her life out with a piglet companion in a happy home. In the wake of growing concerns about public health and animal cruelty in factory farms, DxE will be issuing a press release with our findings in the next few days, and demanding that agribusiness giants open their doors for public inspection. We’ll also be asking the administration to reverse its decision to allow agribusiness giants to market meat as “organic” when, contrary to the law, birds are not given outdoor access.

  • Say NO to the Texas strategic initiative to outlaw Bodywork therapies
As Bodyworkers and teachers of Bodywork, we are personally affected by the change in laws governing the practice of safe, healing modalities. By requiring a Massage Therapy license to practice Reiki, Reflexology, Healing Touch and other complementary modalities the state limits the number of Bodyworkers able to practice and deprives the public the ability to find trained Bodyworkers.

  • The People of Florida Deserve Their Voices to Be Heard with: RANKED CHOICE VOTING
Ranked choice voting allows voters to rank as many candidates as they want in order of choice--first, second, third, and so on. All first choices are counted, and if a candidate has a majority, then they win, just like any other election. However if nobody has a majority, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and those voters have their ballot instantly count for their next choice. This process continues until a candidate receives a majority of votes, and is declared the winner. In 2016, Maine voters voted “yes” on a ballot question to adopt ranked choice voting for all statewide elections. In doing so, they became the first state to make vote-splitting and the concept of “spoiler candidates” a thing of the past. Other cities and states should follow their lead. Ranked choice voting gives you the freedom to vote for the candidate you like the best without worrying you'll help to elect the candidate you like the least. We are asking the elected officials in the state of Florida to let the people's voices be heard and allow RANKED CHOICE VOTING in all Florida elections. Works cited: fairvote.org

  • Ban all Massachusetts pet stores from selling any animals that are not rescue animals
Pet stores have no vetting process and can and will sell a dog to anyone with the funds. They are selling puppy mill dogs and unhealthy animals to consumers. I recently rescued a golden retriever who came from a horrific breeder in Minnesota. We need to make sure these pet store are only selling rescue animals from non profit rescues.

  • Petition Opposing Council File Council File 12-0460-S4; Case No. CPC-2016-3182-CA; ENV-2016-3183-CE
The ANGER and DISSAPPOINTMENT of Los Angeles residents is at a boiling point. Our elected officials are slowly destroying our communities, eliminating our say in the matters that affect us and turning our once thriving neighborhoods into little more than what resembles a third world country. We OPPOSE Council File 12-0460-S4; Case No. CPC-2016-3182-CA; ENV-2016-3183-CE . Should this pass it will GIVE THE CITY PLANNER THE UNCHECKED POWER TO LOCATE THE HOMELESS ANYWHERE OUR POLITICIANS DEEM NECESSARY TO COVER POLITICAL LIABILITY! It give the City Planner the unchecked power of locating the Homeles. This POWER GRAB takes away many of the rights we as citizens, taxpayers, residents and stakeholders currently are entitled to regarding Land Use and zoning. It gives the City Planner 22 new powers not previously held. The Director of Planning will have the authority to waive Public hearings and would be given the ability to act to "interpret" ordinances passed by Council without a right of appeal back to Council asking for clarification. The approvals of historic monuments will be given to just the Director of City Planning. The Proposed Ordinanc would give the Director of Planning the power to reduce otherwise required parking by an additional 20%. Furthermore, the Proposed Ordinance does NOT INCLUDE the Neighborhood Councils in the authorities section with all of their Charter and LAMC powers, notices and rights. No exceptions. WE THE PEOPLE DESERVE A SAY IN WHAT HAPPENS IN OUR COMMUNITY!

  • California: Increase your cigarette tax now!
A higher cigarette tax would not only convince more people to stay off cigarettes, but it would also give more money to the state government. California, being one of the largest and economically successful states in the nation, could convince smaller states to raise their cigarette tax.
