• Support Criminal Justice Reform: Petition for A.B. 2845
Introduced by Assemblymember Rob Bonta, the Pardon and Commutation Reform Act of 2018 will create the Pardon and Commutation Panel that will take over the responsibilities of the current Board of Parole Hearings. This five-member panel, each of who will have experience with “in community-based reentry, reentry services, community-based risk assessment issues, and immigration law” will meet monthly to review submitted applications for pardons and make recommendations to the Governor. In current law, the Governor is the only one who can pardon former inmates of their past crimes, a power that can easily be tainted by individual bias. These individuals can wait years to receive a pardon, and in those years, struggle to land jobs or, in the case of immigrants, face deportation due to their past criminal records. Allowing the panel to give pardons will expunge the criminal records of former inmates who have been reformed and are ready to be productive members of society. Though the Governor still holds the power to elect the candidates on the panel, the bill would force the committee to look at each recommended individual and give a response in one year (or 90 days if they are at risk of deportation by ICE). Thus, with AB 2845, more pardon cases will be examined each year and individuals are guaranteed a review of their case within a year rather than having their case ignored. This will allow reformed former inmates to be able to obtain jobs instead of being limited by their criminal record and help to solve the crimmigration crisis. ICE has been targeting immigrants with criminal records and using their criminal past as justification for their deportation despite showing they are productive citizens of society. A portion of these immigrants were raised in America and would not be able to adjust to a new lifestyle overseas.

  • Regal- Honor Companion Tickets!
Regal no longer will honor a companion ticket for individuals with intellectual disabilities because they aren’t “visible”. Many of these individuals depend on companion tickets for their aids so that they are able to get out into the community and participate just like everyone else! Without companion tickets activities are even more limited and just like you and I, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities love movies, too! I am asking for Regal theaters to honor companion tickets with requiring proof that the companion is, in fact, a support person, whether that means a pay stub or a card issued from an agency/brokerage.

  • Lehigh University: Cutting Gryphon Parking Permit Fees
As employees of the University, the signing members of the Gryphon society feel that paying the full fee of a parking permit on campus is unreasonable as other employees of the University are not required to pay the same fees. As this is a position that requires us to live on campus, we believe there are convincing arguments detailed in the attached letter that explain why a Gryphon should not pay the full fee to park on campus. Even without changes made, we petition for an understandable, written explanation of why there is no reduction made for Gryphons purchasing parking permits.

  • Illinois: Ban Fracking Now!
Fracking has caused devastation in states across the country, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado, and Texas. We can’t let that happen in Illinois. Regulations can’t make fracking safe. But right now, energy companies are free to frack in Illinois and it's time we say No More! Fracking endangers our health and safety through water contamination, air pollution, and earthquakes. Studies have linked fracking to long-term health effects -- we shouldn't gamble Illinoisans' health for the sake of burning more dirty fossil fuels. Tell Illinois elected officials that fracking should be banned!

  • Keep Chelan Safe
Chelan Fire Department is about to lose 50% of our 24-hour staffing! FEMA provided a SAFER grant at the beginning of 2017 to fund these 6 guys for 2 years, which expires at the end of December. By losing 6 professional firefighters, Chelan will be supremely under-protected. This means high safety risks for our community and our kids, increased mortgage insurance due to decreased fire protection, slower response times to emergencies, etc. Less than 1/2 of the town voted during the last election. So many people weren't aware of the situation we are facing and we all deserve the right to make an informed vote.

  • investigate Dr. Willie Wilson & Gov. Bruce Rauner for distributing cash to voters
Wilson has claimed that this money was "charitable" & from his foundation, which wasn't not current on filing reports at the time of the giving. There are appearances that both Rauner & Wilson participated in the event as candidates. Wison's campaign handled media inquiries. Rauner had campaign staff with him. The accounts given by Wilson & Rauner are suspicious.
