Bank of America is freezing and closing bank accounts of people whose citizenship they question, taking people's assets away, throwing their finances into turmoil and injecting fear into the lives of these families and communities. We, the undersigned, demand that Bank of America immediately stop their practice of harassing and harming their customers on the basis of supposed immigration status. American communities and marketplaces are the gold standard all over the world because they are supported by the police, fire, transportation, safety, economic and educational infrastructure that are paid for by ALL of us, and are open to ALL without discrimination on the basis of bias against one's race, nationality, sex, religion, disability, age and (in many states) sexual orientation or gender identity. Bank of America is hurting the individuals they targeted and also damaging the economic foundations of our very quality of life with their profoundly troubling actions reported this week. Individuals, businesses and organizations are encouraged to close their accounts with Bank of America in an economic boycott. Show Bank of America that we won't stand for policies that amount to racist attacks on their own customers. We won't patronize businesses that fuel xenophobia and anti-immigrant terror. Close your accounts. Let Bank of America know exactly why.

Amazon is one of the wealthiest corporations, and it's been attacked and criticized for its miserly employment policies. We will continue to purchase from Amazon only if the Company makes big changes to the way they compensate and care for their workers, and if they invest a portion of their profits to improve the communities where they operate by supporting child care, health care, affordable housing, and transportation.

Every American should be concerned with the risk of our national security that worse attack than 911 on the American soil is pending and is coming. Hola! My name is Angelica Garcia-Cruces and as perhaps many of you may know, there will not be a Honduras trip in the Spring of 2020. When I first heard this, I was very disappointed because I not only was looking forward to this trip and wonderful experience to be in Central America, but it also was the trip that fit best into my schedule in order to receive a Spanish Major. As someone in the education program, finding time to fit study abroad trips in my schedule is quite difficult and the trip to Honduras is what I have been planning on. Also, as a Latino student, getting to travel abroad to a country in Latin America is very important to me because it allows me to learn more about the culture of my neighbors in Honduras, to speak Spanish that is similar to the Spanish spoken in the United States (which are the primary people that I will be speaking Spanish with in my job and day to day life), and I have heard that it is one of the study abroad trips with a higher retention rate of the Spanish language than one like Spain. Having to do a semester in Spain is not only more expensive but it also does not allow me to experience Latin American culture which is something that is important to me and many others. I had ALL when I was 3 years old and millions of children have multiple pediatric cancers and it doesn't get the noticed like it should. Only 3.8% of funds go Childhood cancer. The White House gets lit up for fallen officers and for breast cancer, why not childhood cancer? Even if it is for one night in September! Our children are worth that.

As you may have seen in the news, Florida Polytechnic University’s administration has recently opted to eliminate the positions of Librarian and Wellness Counselor. Consequently, they laid off the only employee on campus with intimate knowledge of the digital library’s day-to-day operations, as well as the sole licensed mental health counselor on a remote campus. Part of a larger trend, these were the seventh and eighth in a series of lay-offs and terminations since the end of the spring semester that appears aimed at staff who have spoken about safety problems, legal and ethical issues, and other problems plaguing the university. These and other actions have created a toxic atmosphere in which faculty and staff do not feel it is safe to speak up on pertinent issues related to their job. While the union has tried time and time again to work with the administration, it has become increasingly clear that improving the work environment is not in their best interests. Given that Florida Polytechnic University is a public institution with the mission of serving the students and public in the state of Florida, these actions raise questions about the true priorities of the administration: Is it truly their mission to provide the best possible learning and research environment? Or is their goal to silence critics?

I am a woman's advocate and have lived through a time when women's rights were in the hands of men when women had to beg permission to protect their own bodies. Roe is part of a proud legacy fought for and won by hundreds of brave resilient women. How can we relegate it to the whims and ideology of one man? There are currently at least 13 abortion cases which could make their way to the Supreme Court should Kavanaugh be confirmed, and it's no secret that anti-abortion activists hand picked him to carry out their agenda. How can we relegate it to the whims and ideology of one man? Senator Collins must listen to the people of Maine as a key vote in rejecting Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation.

Any issues that happen in this country- the buck stops at the Supreme Court, from surveillance to torture, to the Presidency itself- Bush v Gore, are strongly affected by the courts. We'd had a conservative court for decades, then Bush v Gore continued the conservative lifecycle, and McConnell took on the role of Senate and President, refusing to schedule hearings because he knew Obama's nominees would be confirmed, and the process of the democratic republic would be fulfilled. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents are continuing to commit abominable violence against immigrants and people of color. Despite this, ICE’s budget for immigration detention and enforcement has jumped by almost a billion dollars in the last two years through a combination of reckless spending and secretive transfers of money. And now they’re at it again, trying to get a special increase in funding for immigration detention in the short-term funding bill expected to be passed by the end of the month. There is no question that this money causes tremendous harm in the hands of an agency responsible for deaths and widespread sexual assault in detention, violent raids, the separation of thousands of families, and more. We can’t allow ICE to continue manipulating the budget process as they violate basic human rights. We are committed to protecting our communities from the terror of Trump’s deportation force. We call on Congress to stop the special funding increase for detention and not allow ICE and CBP to manipulate them into increasing their funding.

Ivy Tech facilities should provide a variety of spaces to encourage learning and participation in and out of the classroom and teaching lab. The TC building deserves a permanent, professional space devoted to the needs of the students.
