NJ Government: Ban Lunch Shaming in New JerseyDonate at: https://www.gofundme.com/eraselunchdebt-nj In nearly half of America’s school districts, schools are shaming and punishing students because their parents or guardians are unable to pay for their child's lunch bills. In some cases, schools are ordered to withhold lunch. In other, more severe cases, lunch shaming is used; schools publicly single out these children by forcing them to wear wristbands, assigning them chores, or taking away their meal after it has been served to them. Children face the embarrassment of being branded by bracelets or stamps when they are denied the “good lunch” in their own school cafeterias. This horrific practice negatively disrupts a child's life, often leaving permanent scars. To begin tackling this pressing problem, I founded the Lunch Crisis Organization which operates on the basis of three main objectives: raising money towards erasing students’ lunch debt, raising awareness about lunch shaming, and bringing change to the public school lunch system. Though I was able to raise over $13,000, it proved to be merely a band-aid for this crisis -- real change, change on a legislative level, must be more permanent. To bring this permanent change to the public school lunch system, New Jersey and its legislators need to create and pass a bill that will consist of acts to outlaw the cruel practice of lunch shaming and ensure that federal meal assistance is an easier process. New Mexico’s Hunger-Free Students’ Bill of Rights outlaws lunch shaming and directs schools to work with parents to pay their debts or to sign up for federal meal assistance. With New Mexico being one only a few states to pass a bill that has effectively impacted the lunch system, it is my hope that New Jersey will be the next.32 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Keertana Talla

Adopt a yellow page opt-in only program in New JerseyThe current voluntary Yellow Pages opt-out program is not working, it is merely a publicity stunt. I have opted out from receiving these wasteful books for a few years now, and I KEEP RECEIVING THEM EVERY SINGLE YEAR. The manufacturers keep getting away with it because it is a voluntary program and there are no laws to regulate it. The production of these unnecessary books causes more pollution, wastes natural resources, and wastes public money because municipalities have to deal with recycling them. Lots of them. Most people don't need or use those books, but they continue to be printed and delivered because somebody is making a profit. An opt-in program would prevent excessive books from being printed, and all people who still wanted them would always be able to sign up to continue to receive them. IT'S NOT A BAN on phone books, it is an optimization of resources. Only people who want the books would be receiving them -- it's common sense! I would love to see NJ as the first US State to achieve that. Please let's be environmental leaders again.11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Renata Bodner

Oxford, MS - Non-Discrimination OrdinanceMississippi is one of few states that has yet to secure civil rights protections for everyone. There is no law that explicitly protects individuals from discrimination in housing, employment, education, or the use of public accommodations. Federal protections exist for certain people on the basis of race, sex, and other categories, but the coverage is limited for sexual orientation and gender identity. Oxford is known for being inclusive and diverse. We need to make sure all are welcome in our city. Help us protect our youth and the residents of Oxford by signing this petition for a Non-Discrimination Ordinance.270 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Daniel

Insist on Accuracy and Full Disclosure in White House Record of Trump-Putin Summit in HelsinkiIt is critical that we have a complete and accurate record of what occurred concerning the events of the 7/16/18 Helsinki Summit, of such monumental significance for our country. It is unacceptable that the official record be "edited" to alter its actual substance. Truth matters.118 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Jody Borrelli

Suddenlink BroadbandI am tired of trying to work from home with an unstable signal while rates keep increasing. 90 days ago, I paid $10 to increase the speed on internet service and 60 days ago Suddenlink decided to implement a rate increase of $8.25 per line. The signal jumps in and out; technicians have been to our home and say everything is fine at the pole; it took 2 weeks for a service call in June so I was without broadband for those 2 weeks. I do not receive a paper statement so was unaware of the latest increase until it took place. Funny, they could send me an email to increase the overall speed of my internet but when it came to a rate increase it was my responsibility to read my statement online since it was on page 3 of the paper billing. I know from Facebook postings in my community that this is not just "my" issue.34 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sandy Hunt

GAS STRIKEThis is the best way to convey and circulate this concept. I protested Vietnam Nam War & Civil Rights in the 60-70’s gas in the 80’s. The gas strike in CA worked much faster. It is a protest that can have an immediate effect that can’t be denied. Please consider helping promote this blatant, consequent protest. Let’s hit the only place they feel....the pocketbook!2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jacqueline

PA Proclamation Addressing Stigma & Violence Against Sex WorkersEPGN article by Tim Cwiek: Pennsylvania resident Melanie Dante wants state lawmakers to enact an anti-violence resolution on behalf of sex workers. Dante, now 48, is an advocate for LGBT rights and the rights of sex workers. She said several local trans women who were murdered recently were perceived to be sex workers. “I care very deeply about that,” she told PGN. In an effort to lessen the violence, she’s pushing for state lawmakers to pass an anti-violence resolution regarding sex workers in Pennsylvania. “Each individual’s human rights are sacred, including the human rights of those of us who have lived the sex trade,” Dante told PGN. She said the term “sex work” encompasses various forms of erotic activity. “Sex work is a broad category that includes prostitution, escorting, sugar babes, strippers, lap dancers, cam girls, dominants and submissives, massage therapists, tantric practitioners and porn models,” Dante explained. As an advocate for sex workers, she’s aware of far too many acts of violence against members of that community. And she speaks from personal experience. Dante wants state lawmakers to pass a resolution declaring Dec. 17 as International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers in Pennsylvania. For the past 14 years, people around the world have observed Dec. 17 as a day to honor the lives of sex workers lost to murder and suicide. “My goal is to be sure no sex worker or person exploring their sexual and gender identity is forgotten, after falling victim to a violent crime leading to their death,” Dante said. Since 2012, Dec. 17 memorial events have been held in Philadelphia, and Dante hopes the local event will grow and become more unified. Dante said she realizes a resolution won’t end all of the problems faced by sex workers in Pennsylvania, but that it’s an important first step. Brian Sims’ office issued this statement: “Violence in any form inflicted upon any person is reprehensible.” Dante represents the voice the PA Workers Survivors Clearinghouse, SWOP Behind Bars / SWOP USA in PA, and ESPU_Philly, saying of the conservative political environment she is reaching out to: “We all want the same outcome, which is to end the violence.”222 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Melanie (Goodman) Dante
