Chicago’s long-standing status as a city that proudly welcomes immigrants is under attack. Over the past year, a small but loud group of anti-immigrant politicians have sought to undermine Chicago's long standing "Welcoming City" ordinance. Chicago first became a "Welcoming City" in 1985—nearly 40 years ago—through an executive order signed by Mayor Harold Washington. The ordinance allows immigrants to access critical services without fear of being deported or arrested simply because of their immigration status. But a few opportunistic anti-immigrant politicians and their far right followers have been working to revoke our status, using unfounded and biased fear-based tactics to turn neighbors against each other. These efforts are part of a larger, nationwide attack on immigrant communities, and they have no place in Chicago. Studies have shown that "Welcoming City" ordinances make cities safer, and repealing them would do nothing to address the challenges the city is currently facing in caring for new arrivals. We urge elected officials to firmly resist any efforts to repeal Chicago's “Welcoming City” status and instead work to secure the city, state, and federal funding needed to fully support all of our communities!

The United States is one of only six remaining countries in the world with no guaranteed form of paid leave. Just 25 percent of workers in the entire country have access to paid family leave through their jobs. And here in America, one in four people who have given birth returned to work within two weeks—bleeding, sleep-deprived, and often still injured. There is a human cost to the lack of paid leave, and families are paying for it. Women and caregivers lift up our economy, which also disproportionately relies on the undervalued labor of women of color. Passing paid leave and care policies would yield millions of jobs, billions in wages, and trillions in GDP. It would reduce turnover costs, retain talented workers, and allow employers and small businesses to be more competitive. It would keep working people in their jobs and families afloat.

In February, a judge said the Texas commission had not proved Powell violated the Texas attorney code of conduct. But now, as a defendant in the Georgia Trump case being prosecuted by Fani T. Willis, the Fulton County district attorney, Sidney Powell pled guilty, agreed to reach a cooperation deal, and agreed to turn state’s evidence. She faced seven felony charges tied to the conspiracy to overthrow the election; her plea deal admitted guilt to misdemeanor charges. The State Bar of Texas has already investigated Powell for allegedly false and misleading statements to federal courts regarding wild conspiracy theories about Joe Biden’s election. The state bar’s disciplinary arm has indeed sued Powell. Moreover, on August 25, Michigan U.S. District Court Judge Linda Parker sanctioned Powell for “a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process” in bringing an election fraud case with no basis in law, solely based on “speculation, conjecture, and unwarranted suspicion.” Judge Parker noted that Powell’s conduct warranted a “referral for investigation and possible suspension or disbarment.” In addition, Powell has apparently named other people as plaintiffs or co-counsel without their consent and falsely represented that other attorneys were her co-counsel, though their roles were nominal or nonexistent. If true, this violates the American Bar Association's model rules for professional conduct. We ask you to review all the new evidence against Sidney Powell. It appears clear that she is a disgrace to the legal profession and possesses little or no respect for the law. We urge you to consider this evidence, and, if you find it credible, to disbar Sidney Powell.

Big Tech corporations hype up advances in AI as ways they might improve their products or services, but the ugly truth is that they are using AI to pad their profit margins and exploit workers. Given how fast the field of AI is developing, we need to speak out NOW to protect workers’ rights.

This is important to me because Buck-Tick's music has touched many fans worldwide, even if they don't want to admit it, they are heroes behind their musical instruments. They may have inspired and prevented fans from taking their own lives, put it bluntly. The band has definitely deserved more Awards than what they have been presented with over the years. Their live performances are extremely dynamic, I have only seen recorded versions of their live shows, but wow!!!

Hello, we are middle school girls who are doing a project for 8th grade. We have noticed that there are no menstrual products or sanitary bins in the ferry bathrooms. You can't even buy them in the galley. We thought that this would be a perfect topic to stand up for what we think is right and fair. These products are only available if you ask a crew member. You already have to pay for the period products, and now you have to go up to a stranger and ask them for something that you might not feel comfortable asking for. This can lead to embarrassment, and can also cause people who have periods to not feel supported by their community. This makes us question our equality. The ferry provides all the basic bathroom necessities for people who don't menstruate. But they omit some of the basic bathroom necessities for people who do menstruate. When we reached out to the ferry customer service they said that they removed the period product dispensers due to vandalism. When basic things like toilet paper, soap dispensers, and paper towel machines get vandalized, the ferry management accepts the cost of vandalism, puts them back out, and restocks them. On the other hand, when period products get vandalized, the ferry management uses vandalism as an acceptable reason to take them down and get rid of them.  The lack of period products in the bathrooms is a lack of respect and privacy. Researchers at the Johns Hopkins Center for Transgender and Gender Expansive Health released a study in the journal Annals of Plastic Surgery on November 1. They reviewed over 2,300 cases of chest masculinization surgery (top surgery) performed in the U.S. between 2012 and 2020. The researchers found no correlation between a patient’s BMI and whether the person develops severe post-surgical complications, even though that measurement is frequently used to determine whether a surgery will be approved or denied. The authors of the study recommend “re-evaluation of BMI cutoffs” and say “When you look at the data and you look at complications resulting from top surgery, BMI really doesn’t factor into it much at all,” Despite this Both major providers of chest masculinization surgery in Denver, CO Denver Health and UCHealth will often not even take referrals for people with a BMI over 40. My primary care doctor told me that there was no point in her ever referring me because they will just deny the referral. These two hospitals are the only places in the entire state of Colorado that I could find who take Medicaid for chest masculinization surgery as well which leads to more denials for poor and disabled trans people.
