  • Justice for Wyland
My hope with this petition is that we will finally have answers and can work with the State to pass ‘Wyland’s Law’ - a law that will save the lives of other children. I want Wyland’s life to be a legacy - one that uncovers the truth and fixes the issues so that we can prevent this tragedy from happening to another family.

  • Abolish slavery in Texas
we demand that the practice of forced labor with no compensation be abolished immediately, that inmates be compensated financially for labor like the rest of the United States. This may prevent inmates from becoming a burden on their families or communities upon release, and may prevent releasesees from reverting back to crime out of desperation from lack of financial means, reducing recidivision. .We are asking that incarcerated individuals be paid for their labor or, In the alternative, we asked, demand, that inmates be given one day off their sentences for each day of work. This would be an incentive for inmates to want to work and stay out of trouble, so they can work, decreasing prison violence. It would be a win win situation for all And the right thing to do!

  • Condemn Trump's reckless schemes and enforce consequences for election deniers
Donald Trump’s disinformation machine is already preparing to call to overturn midterm election results in swing states… before most voters have even cast their ballots! You read that right – over the past few months, Trump has mobilized extremist attorneys and dark money groups – all towards a desperate attempt to reverse any results he doesn’t like. Make no mistake – this effort will likely fail, just like it did in 2020. But that doesn’t mean it can’t cause lasting damage to our democracy. And the most worrying part? Trump reportedly views this as a “dress rehearsal for Trump 2024.” Sign the Petition: Condemn Trump’s reckless plans to undermine our democracy – and urge the DOJ to keep enforcing consequences for elections deniers to make sure these plans don’t succeed.

  • Disqualify Donald Trump from Holding Public Office, Under the Constitution’s 14th Amendment
Donald Trump and his associates planned, promoted, and paid for a criminal conspiracy that became the January 6 insurrection. According to the U.S. Constitution, that disqualifies him from ever holding office again. Section three of the Fourteenth Amendment, the “insurrection clause,” makes clear that anyone who engaged in attempting to violently overthrow the US government after swearing an oath to protect it is barred from being given that responsibility again. In 2022, a New Mexico county commissioner who was at the January 6 insurrection was kicked out of office when a state court ruled that the insurrection clause barred him from office. And other courts upheld that the insurrection clause was relevant to members of congress, including MAGA Republican Madison Cawthorn, who spoke at Trump's rally on January 6. It applies just as well to people seeking the Oval Office. We need to fight back even harder to hold Trump accountable for his actions to damage our democracy—actions that continue today and are focused on laying the groundwork for his next coup to place him in the White House in 2024 no matter the will of the voters. State elections officials already have the authority and responsibility to bar him from the ballot. And Congress can back them up by passing legislation barring Trump from office under the Fourteenth amendment. Will you sign the petition today to join the fight to disqualify Trump from holding public office and help disrupt plans by Trump and his allies for his next coup in 2024? • Don’t Silence Doctors from Speaking Out on Patients’ Suffering as a Result of Abortion Bans
The net effect of such practices is to make medical staff fear for their jobs and careers and intimidate them into silence, so as to hide the tremendous suffering, health damage, and heartbreak that abortion bans are inflicting on people. The CNN report describes the many ways hospitals and university medical centers use to silence doctors and medical staff and downplay the suffering caused by abortion bans. Some hospitals block or hinder media requests to interview their doctors and researchers on the topic. Others police social media posts about abortion—a university medical center’s lawyer insisted a group of residents in obstetrics and gynecology take down their Instagram post that said, “Abortion is healthcare,” even though many medical professional groups such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have used the exact same phrase. Even when hospitals have allowed their doctors to speak publicly, these employers insist that the physicians do not disclose where they work and make clear they would prefer that the doctors not speak at all. Will you support doctors speaking up for reproductive health and justice by signing the petition now?

  • President Biden: Pakistanis Need Climate Disaster Relief - Grant TPS and SSR Before It’s Too Late
Catastrophic flooding has left one-third of Pakistan underwater and devastated the country’s healthcare, education, and agricultural infrastructure. 1 in every 7 Pakistanis has been impacted by the flooding. This has displaced 7.9 million people, impacted more than 33 million people, and killed at least 1,600 people and counting. After record flooding, the UN health agency warned that the country is on the verge of a public health crisis as millions suffer from waterborne diseases. Relief agencies have warned that the wait for the water to recede could last at least six months. Pakistan emits less than 1% of the world’s planet-warming gases, but it is the eighth most vulnerable nation to the climate crisis. [https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/30/asia/pakistan-climate-crisis-floods-justice-intl/index.html] While the United States sent some relief in monetary aid, this is simply not enough to counteract the impact of the climate crisis that Pakistan is not even responsible for. Temporary Protective Status (TPS) and Special Student Status (SSR) are humanitarian protections that have benefited numerous foreign national groups in the U.S. over the past few decades. Pakistani nationals and students should not be excluded from this humanitarian relief. **Sign this petition to demand President Joe Biden and Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas designate Temporary Protective Status for impacted Pakistanis and protect Pakistani nationals already working and studying in the United States.** We also urge the Biden administration to enact policies that communicate a more serious commitment to support Black and Brown working communities, here and abroad, that are disproportionately impacted by climate disasters. The humanitarian crisis facing ordinary Pakistanis is unthinkable. Millions of people lack access to food, clean potable water, or safe shelter and have lost their ability to work the lands impacted by the floods in a country where agriculture is the predominant source of livelihood. The hit to the agricultural sector threatens a severe food crisis. There is not enough dry land to properly bury those killed due to the floods. To make matters worse, over 1.1 million houses have been washed away, an estimated 18,000 schools have been destroyed, and millions of Pakistani mothers and infants face increased risks to life and health. Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can designate a country for TPS if the country is experiencing ongoing armed conflict, natural disaster, or other extraordinary and temporary conditions. TPS allows its beneficiaries to stay in the U.S. during the designation period and receive work permits. It is lifesaving, blanket protection that allows people from a designated country to remain in the U.S. while conditions in their home country make a safe return impossible. In addition to these more immediate demands, we believe that longer-term action is urgently needed. Governments can no longer ignore their responsibilities to fortify communities vulnerable to global warming, center safe pathways for migration as essential climate adaptations, enact stronger legislation to eliminate carbon emissions, increase mitigation efforts, and implement equitable climate finance like the Loss & Damage Finance Facility being discussed under the UN Convention on Climate Change. **While longer-term commitments are needed to support Black and brown communities disproportionately impacted by climate disasters, the best thing President Joe Biden and DHS Secretary Mayorkas can do right now is to use programs like TPS and SSR to provide relief and respite for impacted Pakistanis.** A designation of TPS and SSR would allow Pakistani immigrants, including students, the ability to work in the U.S. and provide relief to their families back home while bolstering the larger economy.
