• Equifax must notify hacked victims!
Equifax must be compelled by Congress to contact all people who had their information compromised on Equifax's watch. Equifax must create a victims clearinghouse to provide information to victims regarding remedial actions they should take. There must be no cost borne by victims to remedy Equifax's mistakes. No taxpayer funds are to be used toward these actions; the cost must be borne solely by Equifax. The responsibility to cure this data breach must fall on Equifax, not the victims.

  • Congress: Don't Tax Graduate Student Tuition Waivers
The good that universities do would simply not be possible without graduate students. Graduate students already face a huge financial burden--they survive on small stipends while teaching classes and assisting with research on top of their own studies. Often they're forced to take on extra jobs and/or debt to make it through. And yet they're a vital engine of our intellectual life. They deserve our respect, our thanks, and our protection. And if Congress makes graduate school impossible to pursue for the many, this country is going to lose out on a generation of thinkers.

  • Protect the 2020 Census
The Census Bureau usually starts advertising its upcoming census 3 or 4 years ahead of time. The next census is 2020, and the bureau is not being funded enough. Allocations of funds depend on accurate Census numbers. Accuracy here is important, especially for underserved populations.

  • Stop Common Cause from Honoring a Serial Harasser
It was never OK to honor Arnold, aka the Gropenator, but in this #metoo moment, it is especially wrong. By honoring Arnold Common Cause is enabling harassers and silencing victims. Common Cause should instead help shed light on the widespread problem of sexual harassment.

  • Stop the Tax Bill Vote: Investigate the beneficiaries of the “Paradise Papers”
The Paradise Papers leak has exposed the role of high-ranking Trump administration officials pushing the Republican Tax Bill, especially Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and other influential figures already benefiting from the use of offshore tax havens. The "Paradise Papers leaks further illustrate why we must not pass a tax bill that gives obscene profits to the ultra-wealthy global elite at the expense of the working class until a comprehensive investigation into conflicts of interest and corrupt dealings is complete. The expansive leaks show that the officials behind pushing the depraved Republican Tax Bill are at the core of the super-wealthy global elite who already hide their money in offshore accounts and tax havens. In the wealthiest country on earth, we the people demand congress investigate the Bermuda leak links to the big money behind the tax bill before they vote to give bigger breaks to corporations that ship jobs overseas and then vote to cut access to healthcare, social security, medicare, Medicaid and other crucial programs paid for by working people.

  • Give NRA's money to gun victim's families
Gun control is long overdue in America, as seen by watching the local news with its daily shooting reports. We've become inured to the carnage until it gets reinforced by mass shootings which recur too frequently. My best friend's son was shot in the back, leaving him a paraplegic. My friend had to quit her job to care for him and his two-year old daughter. Later, a stroke made Michael a quadriplegic, unable to communicate or eat solid food, plus he had to have a colostomy. The man was bedridden and moved between hospitals and nursing homes (where he contracted MRSA) until his death two years later. Such suffering from 1 gunshot!

  • Tell Congress: Block Trump from starting a war with North Korea
Tweet by tweet and threat by threat, Donald Trump is inching toward war with North Korea. It’s not just a few belligerent comments. For months, top Trump officials have been floating the possibility of an illegal and unconstitutional first strike on North Korea. We need to prepare for a future where Trump tries to attack North Korea, and we need to do it fast. In the words of Trump’s own Defense Secretary, war on the Korean peninsula would be catastrophic. New official studies find that hundreds of thousands and even millions of South Koreans would die in a conflict on the Korean peninsula. That is to say nothing of the long-term consequences that war would bring to global peace and security. Congress is currently considering bills that block Donald Trump from starting a war with North Korea all by himself. Specifically, the legislation blocks any funds for an unprovoked attack on North Korea or other military action that’s not expressly authorized by Congress. This important legislation wouldn’t do anything to change the President’s constitutional right to defend our country if we’re attacked. Instead, it would simply make clear that Donald Trump cannot start a war, just because he wants to. Urge your Members of Congress to support these bills to stand between Trump and a reckless war on the Korean peninsula.

  • Pledge to Refuse Donations from Gun Lobby
Members of Congress have only thoughts and prayers to offer after countless mass shootings in our country. We demand that they work together to find a sensible response beyond thoughts and prayers that might include new gun regulations, and funds for adequate mental health care and anger management education. Before they can do this, they must cut the ties to campaign funds from the gun lobby. Money from the gun lobby, and specifically the NRA, should be seen as an absolute non-starter if one wants to seek election to public office.

  • Representative Ken Calvert: Give the $61,125 you received from the NRA to victims of gun violence.
I lost 2 beloved family members to people who should never have had access to firearms, let alone military style weapons. I lost my grandmother to her abusive husband because she couldn't take the abuse anymore and left him so he ambushed and murdered her. I lost my uncle to the drunk in the apartment above him because the shooter was drunk and showing off his new high power rifle to his girlfriend. My dad was sitting next to my uncle when the bullet came through the ceiling. I can tell you first hand that losing a loved one at the hands of someone who should never have access to these weapons leaves a pain in your soul that I would never wish on anyone and the surviving family members are left with that pain for the rest of their lives. We need a comprehensive plan to prevent firearms from getting into the hands of people who have a history of violence, anger issues, alcohol & drug issues and mental health issues that causes one to be a danger to themselves or others. We need proper training and "extreme vetting" before someone can purchase a firearm. We need to close the loopholes that allow people to circumvent the laws to obtain firearms. We need legislation that blocks people with certain mental illnesses from having access to these weapons. We need to block the sale of military assault weapons, silencers and armor piercing bullets. We need lawmakers to stop selling themselves to the NRA.
