• Illinois House Resolution 677
Dear Governor Rauner, I am writing in strong support of Illinois House Resolution 677. I believe it is of utmost importance that you fill the vacant positions on the University of Illinois Board of Trustees with appointments that will honor the diversity and reflect the gender makeup of our State. As I am sure you are well aware, the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois is responsible to the people of Illinois. The responsibility of the Board should include giving a voice to those of us who are underrepresented and under served. I recommend that the ideal way to do this is to have these underrepresented, diverse people in positions of decision-making power so that they can offer their perspective and the perspective of the people they represent. This is a prime opportunity for you, Governor Rauner, to recognize the diversity of our state on a public platform. Diverse appointments to the vacant positions on the University of Illinois Board of Trustees would reinforce in the State’s people that the state of Illinois is a State of acceptance and tolerance. At this time of national unrest, it is particularly important to take the necessary steps to reaffirm our State’s commitment to inclusion and diversity by way of the University of Illinois Board of Trustee members. Thank you in advance for your consideration of my view on this matter that I consider to be of utmost importance. Sincerely, A Concerned Illinois Resident

  • Legalization of recreational marijuana in Florida
I have seen it’s medical use benefits work wonders, and I have also seen the revenue it brings in for the states that have legalized recreational use. I believe people will gravitate toward marijuana more if it’s not only for medicinal use but recreational as well rather than looking to the heavier substances and opioids they’re currently using to get their high. It’s an all around win for this state, if passed revenue will increase and overdose will decrease significantly

  • Tell Mitch McConnell to seat Doug Jones now
The people of Alabama—powered by strong turnout of African-American voters and overcoming the GOP's shameful voter suppression efforts—spoke up decisively in favor of Doug Jones last night. We also spoke up against the GOP's attempts to strip healthcare from millions while giving massive tax breaks to the richest Americans and largest corporate donors. But Mitch McConnell says that he won't allow our newly elected senator to vote on the GOP's controversial tax bill. He's choosing to push through harmful legislation that will hurt the poor and middle class while giving massive tax breaks to the 1 percent. Mitch McConnell is exactly the reason so many Alabamians and people across our nation are sick of politics as usual. The people voted. Let us have our voice. Seat Doug Jones immediately upon certification of Alabama's election results—then hold the tax vote.

  • Tell the Republican Party: Supporting accused sexual predators is a losing strategy
At least eight women came forward saying Roy Moore sexually harassed or assaulted them--including those who were under 18 at the time--one woman who says she was 14 years old when Roy Moore took her to his house, took her clothes off, and initiated sexual conduct. At first the RNC cut ties—yet after just several days, they resumed full support including funding for his campaign. Donald Trump campaigned for him. I'm from Minnesota originally, and as much as it broke my heart to see Senator Franken resign over allegations of inappropriate conduct, I know there should be no partisan line when it comes to holding our esteemed elected officials to a high standard. These elected officials are accountable to us—the people! Surely, we can all agree serious and credible allegations from victims of sexual violence should be taken into consideration before propping up people like Roy Moore as the face of the Republican party. Tell the Republican Party to commit to stop funding accused pedophiles and sexual assaulters in the future.

  • Bring. Them. All. Home
I know the tragedy of these wars because as a therapist I have tried to help young vets with PTSD. They struggle every day to forget the things they did and witnessed. More vets have committed suicide during or after these wars than even Vietnam. There are no clear objectives or they change sporadically, it's almost impossible to distinguish between innocent civilians & Muslim extremists. We aren't shown how bad it is there, we aren't told how horrifically our soldiers are tortured when they're captured, we don't know how traumatized they are about the things they were ordered to do. And they will never be the same.

  • Demand Mayor Maturo to reinstate Jose
On October 20th, Jose Bedoya got word that six people who swam at the pool had a combination of symptoms related to heavy air and pool deterioration. Bedoya reported the situation with the Parks and Rec Department and with the Aquatic Programs authorities. After supposedly cleaning the pool, Bedoya returned to work. On October 27th, however, East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo stopped by the pool and confronted Jose for insistently denouncing the situation, going as far as pushing him and calling the police on him in front of multiple eyewitnesses. After internal pressure from the Mayor, Jose Bedoya’s contract was terminated in early December without any explanation. Jose Bedoya is a beloved member of the community who has taught numerous swimming classes for children, families, and the elderly. He also worked with East Haven High School’s female swimming team and organized the only underwater polo team in the state of Connecticut. Please sign this petition in support of Jose Bedoya so that he be reinstated at once.

  • Tenant Rights Law
My husband and I were recently advised that our landlord was not going to renew our lease all of a sudden after 4 years. We had an issue just three weeks earlier with our car being illegally towed from our parking spot . We contacted the apartments at crystal lake at 3801 Crystal Lake Drive Pompano Beach FL Who is owned by CJM properties in Canada and was advised that we were not going to be reimbursed for the towing fee of 150.00. I contacted CJM Properties via twitter and facebook and the next day we got the 150.00 back, I believe that the owners of these apartment complexes should be forced to provide a good reason for not renewing the lease if the tenant did not violate any terms of the lease. The complexes should have to provide written proof such as if the building is being torn down. Failure to enforce this petition allows the landlord to make up a reason or give no reason thus they can throw a tenant out for retaliation but it becomes difficult to prove. I believe that the tenant rights need to be improved. So with that being said the law needs to state that if the tenant did not violate any terms of the lease, written proof needs to be provided. Cjm Properties and the apartments and crystal lake retaliated against us and throughout a disabled person with cancer
