Congress needs to act before hard-working families have their lives torn apart. Taking away TPS status or letting it expire would throw hundreds of thousands of families into chaos as mothers and fathers lose their legal status to stay in the country. We could be forced to decide whether to divide our families or to take our children to dangerous and unfamiliar countries. TPS recipients are mothers, neighbors, caregivers, business owners and community members. We are parents to 273,000 children who have lived in the United States their whole lives and know no other home. Removing TPS recipients from the country is inhumane and makes no economic sense. It would cost employers nearly $1 billion in immediate turnover costs. It would cost our country an estimated $164 billion in gross domestic product over 10 years. It would destabilize housing markets. It would be especially devastating to fragile communities that are struggling to recover from hurricanes in Florida and Texas, where TPS recipients are on the frontlines of rebuilding communities. Please join me in asking Congress to keep the families of 273,000 children together by protecting TPS for 320,000 immigrants who currently have legal status in the U.S. because their countries are devastated by war and disaster.

There are two bills before Congress NOW that will make this all legal: S.19 (The Mobile Now Act) and S.1988 (The SPEED Act). Will you join me and Americans for Responsible Technology in Opposing S.19, and S.1988? The wireless industry has been "secretly" introducing legislation in the U.S. Congress designed to take away every American city's authority to control where Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile locate their cell towers. I don’t want a cell tower installed on a street lamp outside my home! The FCC is streamlining the deployment of thousands of 4G small cell towers NOW on an unprecedented scale (and paving the way for hundreds of thousands more 5G antennas in the future) and this could be happening in your neighborhood if you don’t act NOW and contact your member of Congress! These industry bills will allow powerful wireless transmitters to be installed (along with their noisy and large power equipment) to any utility pole or street lamp in any public right of way in America. Most utility poles or street lamps will become cell towers on every block leaving the public with no input OR legal recourse, and vulnerable to privacy and security risks. The public has not agreed to cell towers in their front yards! Real estate values will significantly decline near base stations and antennas. All of us, as taxpayers, will be footing the bill while the telecom companies profit HUGELY. Contrary to assurances by AT&T and Verizon, the “safety” of wireless exposure has NEVER been proven and there is growing science showing increased health risks, especially for children and pregnant women. I worry about the science showing health risks. Do you? Safety limits have not been updated since the 1990s and the FCC’s guidelines were derived from industry, and there is no monitoring or compliance testing of cell towers. A recent $25 million study by the U.S. National Toxicology Program of the National Institutes of Health found increased incidences of brain cancer, malignant tumors of the heart and DNA damage in laboratory animals from microwave wireless exposure levels the FCC considers "safe"! Please sign this petition (with your full legal name) as it will be sent to Congressional leaders in Washington D.C, urging them to oppose S.19, and S.1988 and put a stop to the massive deployment of cell towers.

U.S. Congressman Steve Knight (CA-25) has received thousands of dollars in contributions from the NRA. We the residents of California's 25th Congressional District urge Steve Knight to return or donate all NRA contributions received during his political career and commit to not accepting another cent from them in the future. The National Rifle Association has a financial chokehold on much of Congress. That chokehold is one of the main reasons why in spite of the mass shootings in Las Vegas, Orlando, San Bernardino, and Sandy Hook, we are still unable to PASS COMMON-SENSE GUN LAWS. To date since the Las Vegas tragedy, two representatives–Tim Ryan (Ohio) and Tim Walz (Minnesota)—have donated previous NRA contributions to gun violence protection groups. We are asking Steve Knight to stand with these representatives and return or donate all contributions received from the NRA and commit to not accepting another cent from them in the future.

I have been personally affected by this situation. On October 31, 2017, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services sent out letters to me and about 21,000 other families stating that due to budget failure, our in-home support waivers will be canceled effective November 30, unless the state legislature appropriates funds in the meantime. Many families are facing emergency situations of whether they can continue to work to provide for their families or quit work to care for their families and then face homelessness and dire poverty. It's a horrible, horrific situation.

Join EMU faculty and lecturers to tell our Board of Regents: Hit the pause button on a secretive, multimillion dollar deal with an out-of-state firm called Academic Partnerships. Faculty and the EMU community should conduct an open, public review of this agreement to sell EMU branded degrees entirely online, with no in-person instruction. All EMU programs, online or in-person, must be consistent with our mission to provide a diverse student body with a high-quality, affordable education. From what we know so far – which isn’t much, because EMU isn’t saying much about this new program – we’re concerned that the online degrees offered by Academic Partnerships will not meet EMU’s standards. Students in these degree programs may never interact with EMU professors. In fact, there may not actually be professors for these courses. The actual work of teaching – online discussion, tutoring, grading – will likely be done by online “coaches.” The “coaches” who will teach EMU students don’t work for EMU. They won’t even work for Academic Partnerships. They will be hired by another out-of-state firm called Instructional Connections – which pays them extremely low wages. EMU and Academic Partnerships are already marketing and delivering a completely online Nursing degree. More programs, including entirely online Bachelor’s degrees, are set to launch in January. For these online degrees, Academic Partnerships will walk away with 50% of EMU tuition and fees. It’s time to hit the pause button and send this secretive deal back to the EMU faculty for a thorough review. Online instruction has a place in higher education. But it should never totally replace the world-class teaching and scholarship that takes place on our campus. EMU-AAUP and EMUFT

My wife and I are retired with large medical bills. The medical tax deduction is vital to our financial security.

Gun deaths have not directly impacted my life, other than that I'm an American watching other Americans die, and I'm tired of it. There's a lot wrong with our country, but like with other issues of our time, I feel Washington can lead the way,and influence other states to do the same.
