• Governor Martinez: Please Stop Cutting Medicaid Funds
My petition is about opposing cuts to Medicaid in New Mexico. I would be personally affected by the cuts as I am currently on Medicaid after moving here from Ohio and starting a business.

  • Gov. Kasich: Please don't resume executions in Ohio.
It has been three and a half years since the botched execution of Dennis McGuire took place in Ohio on January 16, 2014. Since that time, three innocent men have been released from death row in Ohio after their wrongful convictions were finally exposed. Ohio has freed a total of nine innocent men from death row, but we have no idea how many more still sit on death row. One estimate by the National Academy of Sciences suggests that as many as 4% of death row prisoners could be innocent. Despite these unsettling developments, Ohio has announced 27 new execution dates through 2021, beginning with Ronald Phillips on July 26, 2017. With the state’s history of wrongful convictions and botched executions, this rush to resume executions is risky, unnecessary, and it is bad for business. Please tell Gov. Kasich to stop these executions.

  • Pledge to Defeat Speaker Mattiello in 2018
The idea that our schools will lose critical funding because of one man's oversized ego, who wasn't even elected by a majority of Rhode Islanders, is really too much for me to take! It should also be too much for any other rational and caring person to take! Our children deserve better than to be used as pawns in Speaker Mattiello's dangerous and irresponsible decision to prevent passage of the state budget.

  • Investigate Donald Trump's campaign and Donald Trump Jr. for breaking election law
Americans expect—and deserve—our elected officials to be beholden only to us, not to a foreign government. That's why the Federal Election Campaign Act has a long-standing ban on candidates and their campaigns from soliciting contributions or other support from foreign nationals. But news broke over the weekend that the president's son, Donald Trump Jr., may have broken that law by meeting with a Putin-connected lawyer after he was allegedly promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton. Federal law defines a contribution as "anything of value ... for the purpose of influencing any election for Federal office"—which makes Donald Trump Jr.'s attempt to obtain damaging information on his father’s election a clear-cut violation of the law. Common Cause filed a formal complaint with the Federal Election Commission and Department of Justice—Common Cause v. Donald Trump Jr. and the Donald J. Trump for President Committee, Inc—demanding a full investigation into what happened. The new revelations should be part of the investigation that special counsel Robert Mueller is overseeing to determine whether Trump campaign officials colluded with the Russian government—and whether the president has engaged in obstruction of justice after he fired FBI Director James Comey. The American people deserve the full story of the Trump campaign's possible collusion with the Russian government and its attempts to interfere with the 2016 election. If Trump or his team were involved in an attack on our democracy, they must be held to account. Add your name today in support of our complaint and to demand that the Federal Election Commission and Department of Justice fully investigate Donald Trump Jr.'s actions.

  • @RulesReps: Let the House vote on ending U.S. role in Saudi war in Yemen
The House is now considering amendments to the Department of Defense Appropriation. The House Rules Committee [1] will decide which amendments will get House floor votes. Five amendments have been submitted to the Rules Committee that would prohibit or limit U.S. military participation in the Saudi war in Yemen or would limit the transfer of weapons to the Saudi war in Yemen, including explicit prohibition of the refueling of Saudi and UAE planes bombing Yemen and prohibition of the transfer of cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia. [2] Urge Republicans on the House Rules Committee to allow House votes on ending and limiting U.S. participation in the Saudi war in Yemen by signing our petition. • Congress: Debate Our Wars.
Congress must reclaim its Constitutional responsibility to review and debate the AUMF and military operations overseas. This responsibility is essential to the balance of powers, to our national security, to our economic wellbeing and it is a responsibility owed to the great sacrifices made by American troops abroad and to the civilians caught in the crosshairs.

  • Tell Trump's voter suppression commission -- we won't be intimidated!
Thanks to YOU, President Trump's phony voting task force is getting the bipartisan rebuke it deserves, from election officials in 48 states that are refusing to turn over all that the commission is asking for -- including voters' private data. Remember, it's only because people like you spoke out that we've been able to stop this anti-voter attack in its tracks. So I know that if we keep speaking out, we can protect the freedom to vote for every American. Tell the Pence-Kobach commission that their attempts to intimidate voters won't work -- send them a message directly and tell them you won’t let anything stop you from exercising your freedom to vote. The President appointed Vice President Mike Pence to lead the commission with Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, an architect of some of the worst voter suppression tactics states have put in place in recent years. From what we've seen so far, the Pence-Kobach commission appears to be paving the way to kick eligible Americans off of voter registration rolls, push for new voting restrictions, and intimidate voters from exercising their freedom to vote. When the President set up his Pence-Kobach voting commission, I was concerned it could be used to justify the President's false claims about voter fraud and provide a platform for the Trump Administration to establish nationwide barriers to voting. And when that commission asked for private information about every voter in the country, I was worried they'd use it to fuel Kobach’s faulty nationwide "cross-check" program that will purge hundreds of thousands of legitimate, eligible voters. That's why I'm so glad tens of thousands of activists like you spoke out in their communities -- telling local election officials to put their duty to voters above partisan attacks on voting rights, and protect our privacy from Trump's commission. And we can breathe a sigh of relief, because your voice made a difference, and state election officials listened. But this is just the tip of Donald Trump's voter suppression iceberg. Let's show the Pence-Kobach commission we won’t let them suppress our votes.

  • Bring SB 562 to the floor of the Assembly!
Senate Bill 562, the Healthy California Act, has been passed by the State Senate. This is an opportunity for us to bring healthcare access to all Californians, and to be a proving ground for a national Medicare-for-all-style single payer healthcare system. But Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon has shelved the bill, preventing it from reaching the Assembly floor for a vote - or even to allow discussion of possible amendments to address whatever concerns Speaker Rendon or other Assembly Members may have about the bill. We demand that Speaker Rendon bring SB 562 to the Assembly floor.

  • @TomColeOK04, @MichaelCBurgess: Allow House votes on ending U.S. aid to Saudi war in Yemen
This week the House is considering amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act. The House Rules Committee will decide which amendments will get House floor votes. Amendments have been offered which would end U.S. refueling of Saudi warplanes bombing Yemen [1], ban the transfer of cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia [2], and block U.S. weapons transfers to Saudi Arabia until it ends its blockade that is pushing Yemen into famine. [3] Representative Tom Cole [R-OK-4] is Vice-Chair of the House Rules Committee. [4] Rep. Cole has been outspoken on the need for Congress to debate and vote on matters of war and peace. Rep. Cole has been an outspoken supporter of the Barbara Lee [D-CA] amendment to sunset the 2001 authorization of the use of force to compel the House leadership to allow a debate and vote on a new AUMF. [5] Representative Michael Burgess [R-TX-26] is another Republican member of the House Rules Committee. [6] A doctor, he was the only Republican member of the Rules Committee who voted last year to bar the transfer of cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia. [7] Urge Rep. Cole and Rep. Burgess to use their positions on the House Rules Committee to allow House votes on ending U.S. participation in the Saudi war in Yemen by signing our petition.
