Stop Racial ProfilingEveryday people are pulled over for speeding, and broken tail lights, but does it become an issue when law enforcement start pulling people over for no reason. The Fourth Amendment states “the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” Despite this right, multiple minorities across the country suffer at the hands of police officers through racial profiling; the singling out of a person or persons as the main suspect of a crime based on their race. Many people have also suffered the loss of a loved one because police believed the suspect to be a threat based on their races therefore the officers use their authority to take out the “threat”. Although racial profiling may make sense to police officers in the line of duty, through the eyes of the public and those affected by police actions, it is a form a racism that is not being confronted and is allowing unjust convictions and deaths. Police officials often use the practices of racial profiling to discretely single out minority races.28 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Roshanay Wolfe

Stop religious bigotry against Jews in our governmentMany people live in America for the freedom and liberty it offers. One of these liberties is the freedom of religion, and all the people of a religion should not be scared because of one discriminatory candidate.9 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sondos E

Make Instagram Safe for People of ColorThe Community Guidelines on Instagram do not serve people of color. As a group of white Instagram users who are able to post freely without being censored by Instagram, we are creating this petition to put a stop to this unfair silencing of our black and brown siblings. Queer people of color, people of color who speak about the racism they experience and women of color in particular experience the effects of this silencing but all people of color are affected. We want to see 1. Effective training of employees who handle reported posts to recognize racial bias and to disengage from enabling the silencing of black and brown Instagram users when they are reported. A person or people of color who do this work should be hired by Instagram to train employees. We want to see this acknowledged in a statement by Instagram. 2. A strict policy of uplifting voices of color as opposed to silencing them, reflected concretely in employee training. 3. Regular employee oversight by a manager over these reports with reviews on a regular basis. 4. Action taken against employees who silence Instagram users of color, perhaps with a three-strike policy resulting in termination. 5. The ability for users and followers of users to contest a report before posts are taken down which will be routed to a manager to assess the situation before people of color lose time, money, engagement and equal right to free speech by having their posts taken down.318 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Lauren Harwyn

Recognize the Lynched Black Women in GeorgiaBetween 1880 and 1946, twelve black women in Georgia were either lynched, shot, or burned alive for crimes they didn't commit. These "crimes" range from simply knowing about a murder to having grievances about the lynching of another person. We encourage you to sign the petition to erect a memorial in honor of these innocent lives lost to the barbaric agenda of racism because they should not be forgotten in our history. Georgia is a state that should be conscientious of our mistakes and should seek to reflect on these instances and rectify the pain of the past.7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kayleigh Heard

Drug Treatment for Tooele County ResidentsI'm starting this petition because I feel that it is very important for anybody that is plagued by drug addiction to have options if they choose to be sober. At this point in time, Tooele County has very few resources when it comes to rehabilitation. I am wanting to see an inpatient facility that helps addicts without having to have a court order. Recovery needs to be a choice and rehabilitation needs to be readily available and within reach of these people. I would also like to see a detox intake option also. It is very important that addicts who struggle to find help have options and hope to recover from their addictions. There are no centers in the surrounding areas that offer any options for Tooele county residents.288 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Rachelle Busico

Fight corruption in Puerto Rican politicsDue process and civil rights are being brashly violated by the crushing pressure from Congress to have the citizenship pay for a debt they had no foreknowledge about, while those responsible and gained personal profits from that debt are getting an ‘out-of-jail-free’ card. Only a thorough in-depth investigation by a federal Grand Jury can assure the American citizens living in Puerto Rico that the sacrifices being imposed by the governmental entities are fair and equitable.67 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jose (Pepe) Orraca-Brnadenberger

Put the rights of children above the rights of parentsChildren who are thriving in the long-term care of guardians are being returned to biological parents after years of absence simply because the courts are required to consider the rights of the parents, even when it is clearly detrimental to the child. The right of the child to a loving, happy, healthy environment should supersede the rights of all others.106 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Karin Knudson

Stand UPI am starting this petition on behalf of my fellow University of Portland community members who were deeply disturbed by the events that took place at this years Wally Awards. The events that took place mean that we as a University have created an environment in which an individual felt comfortable delivering offensive messages that blatantly perpetuate a culture of objectifying women and disregarding sexual assault. Additionally, the lack of a timely and appropriate response by our administration is very concerning. This time should be used to bring this very prevalent issue into the forefront of our attention. It is time for a large scale open conversation about sexual assault and gender dynamics at this University and an equally large response on how our administration intends to act to prevent anything like this from happening again in the future.91 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Maggie Loft
