As part Cherokee it makes me sick that the racist connotations of the Sooner brand isn't recognized. The stealing of the land that the Cherokee we're already forced on is wrong and in now way should it be honored by the name Sooners.

Minorities across the nation are being targeted by extremist terrorists called Neo-Nazis, White Nationalist, White Supremist, KKK, etc. These groups use the symbols from the Confederacy to promote supremacy, hate, and violence towards fellow Americans. These monuments must not be allowed to stand in public view.

I propose that funding be allocated to erect statues in honor of Civil Rights icons and Native American heroes in proximity to Confederate icons, and in the capitol, and all urban centers. The awareness of how this country has prospered because of Slavery and the genocide of Native Americans is paramount. Marginalized peoples need to have the opportunity to honor their heroes and counteract the wave of emboldened aggression by Neo-Nazis and White Supremacists in this country.

This petition is about ending the hate being directed at minority group members of all kinds by neo-Nazis and white supremacists. If even a few White House staffers resign in protest, it will make real news and inspire others to do the same.

Wade Hampton III was one of South Carolina's largest slaveholders of his time, a traitor to the USA who served as a lieutenant general for the confederacy, and a staunch supporter of the Red Shirts (a 19th Century paramilitary group that used violence and terrorism as a part of the South Carolina Jim Crow culture of the day). Continuing to honor this post-Civil War white supremacist is racist and cannot be tolerated. Some suggestions for action might be to change the name of Wade Hampton High School to Reverend Joseph Armstrong DeLaine High School and to change the name of Wade Hampton Boulevard to Robert Smalls Boulevard.

Our city has a proud history that includes contributions from diverse populations. We no longer need to idolize those who fought to maintain a brutal and despicable injustice.

I'm an American citizen with liberal values who has had enough of Trump. His response to Charlottesville crosses every line of human decency. Republican leaders need to step up, speak up, and stop the insanity.

Our state should not be represented by a statue of a hero of the Confederacy. We need to stand for the future and reject symbols of rebels who sought to destroy the union and maintain slavery.

With his response to the recent events in Charlottesville, Corey A. Stewart has made clear that he is a Nazi sympathizer. There is no place for this in Prince William County. The population he serves is 55% non-white minorities. His continued presence and 'service' is a daily threat to their well being and safety.

These monuments serve to legitimize the wrongs committed in our past and do not serve any purpose but to remind those oppressed that they are still second class citizens.

The incident this August of 2017 is no different from the incidents in June of 2017 in France, the UK, and elsewhere. The incident of Dylan Roof who is a sworn white supremacist did the unthinkable. What will it take for us to see these organizations are hate driven, their decisions to solve their dislikes and problem issues are determined in blood. Innocent Blood.
