• Tell Amazon: Drop police partnerships
Amazon’s Ring and police across the country would like us to buy into the idea that more surveillance equals more safety. But domestic violence advocates argue that police interventions often escalate violence rather than stop it, and that families in danger need emergency housing, support, and resources – not video doorbells. Tell Jamie Siminoff, CEO Ring, Amazon, to stop partnering with police and start working with experts in domestic violence to help victims and families. Amazon markets Ring heavily even without evidence it can help victims of domestic violence. Since its creation Ring has pursued police partnerships to sell their concept of surveillance as safety. Now Ring is adding domestic violence partnerships with more than 1,800 law enforcement agencies and 360 fire departments across the U.S., providing free doorbell cameras in exchange for promoting Ring and the Neighbors app. But police intervention often escalates domestic violence, rather than stops it. [1] In 2008 Derek Chauvin, the racist officer who murdered George Floyd, responded to a domestic violence call by busting down the door of Ira Toles’s bathroom and shooting him at close range. The police violence left the household traumatized. [2] Amazon’s Ring may very well make violent police escalation easier and more frequent. And the impact will be felt more harshly in Black and brown communities. Domestic violence has spiked under COVID-19 conditions, disproportionately affecting Black and brown households with less money, since economic independence is a critical factor in violence prevention. [3] If Amazon wants to make a positive contribution to preventing domestic violence and supporting its victims, the company should work with experts rather than the police. • Expel Representative Jim Jordan from Congress, Immediately!
Ohio’s 4th congressional district representative Jim Jordan was the guest speaker for the Lima Rotary Club’s weekly meeting, answering questions about and discussing different issues that are going on right now. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), along with 9 cosponsors, introduced Articles of Impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The impeachment articles come as evidence continues to mount regarding the Department of Justice's problematic decision-making during the 2016 campaign and conduct surrounding the transition to President Trump's administration in 2017. The impeachment articles are the result of nearly 9 months of unsuccessful congressional attempts to force the Department of Justice (DOJ) to comply with oversight requests. The failures cited within the articles include intentionally withholding embarrassing documents and information, knowingly hiding material investigative information from Congress, various abuses of the FISA process, and failure to comply with congressional subpoenas, among others. Rep. Jim Jordan released the following statement: "The DOJ is keeping information from Congress. Enough is enough. It's time to hold Mr. Rosenstein accountable for blocking Congress's constitutional oversight role." Rep. Meadows: "With Attorney General Sessions' recusal, Rod Rosenstein has been in charge of the Department of Justice as the agency has made every effort to obstruct legitimate attempts of Congressional oversight. The stonewalling over this last year has been just as bad or worse than under the Obama administration. Multiple times we've caught DOJ officials hiding information from Congress, withholding relevant documents, or even outright ignoring Congressional subpoenas—and now we have evidence that Mr. Rosenstein signed off on a document using unverified political opposition research as a cornerstone of a FISA application to spy on an American citizen working for the Trump campaign. This level of conduct, paired with the failure to even feign an interest in transparency, is reprehensible. And whether you're a Republican or a Democrat, this kind of obstruction is wrong—period. For 9 months we've warned them consequences were coming, and for 9 months we've heard the same excuses backed up by the same unacceptable conduct. Time is up and the consequences are here. It's time to find a new Deputy Attorney General who is serious about accountability and transparency." Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH), Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, released a staff report critical of Chairman Cummings's use of Committee resources to interfere with the ongoing litigation over the citizenship question before the Supreme Court. During a business meeting today, the Committee will consider Chairman Cummings's request for subpoenas as part of his partisan and political investigation into the Commerce Department's reinstatement of the citizenship question on the census. Read the full report here and the appendices to the report here. Key Findings Democrats are seeking the same information at issue in the Supreme Court litigation. Chairman Cummings is using the authority of the Committee to gather documentary and testimonial evidence at the heart of the Supreme Court case. One Democrat Member of the Committee even proclaimed that the Committee's oversight was intended to "reveal something that the courts can use" in the litigation. The decision to hold hearings on matters currently involved in litigation carries the potential to jeopardize the impartiality of judicial proceedings. Democrats should not interfere with ongoing litigation, especially at the Supreme Court. When Chairman Cummings was in the minority, he argued against interfering with ongoing litigation. Outside experts agree that Chairman Cummings should not force Secretary Ross to disclose information at issue in the Supreme Court litigation. This man should have better things to worry about besides who is doing there congressional duty to certify election votes and tallies. A man was trying to do his job just like Vice President Pence was trying to do on 1/6/2021 along with Speaker of the House Pelosi & the rest of the responsible members of Congress. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) tweeted more anti-vaxxer talking points on Tuesday and received a swift reminder of his own history in response. Jordan

The reality is that the days after 9/11 were fraught and emotional — some communities came together and others were viciously scapegoated, even though they were hurting too. There was a spike in hate crimes against Arab, Muslim, Middle Eastern, South Asian and Sikh people, and too much of that unchecked racist rhetoric ultimately helped launch endless wars and lay the foundation for the Muslim ban. Twenty years later, it’s time that we address that truth. Reps. Jayapal, Omar, Tlaib, and Chu just introduced a new bill to recognize the harm that these communities have suffered since 9/11. With your help we can get it the support it needs. As activists who oppose war and seek to build a better future, it’s our responsibility to push those in power to understand the lessons of the past so that we can redefine what security looks like in the future — for all of us.

  • 39 USMC interpreters abandoned by US govt, left in Afghanistan show your support to save them!
Today you can advocate for them by signing this petition stating you support project 1/5 in getting our interpreters and their families out of Afghanistan safely. Signing this petition shows the support we the American people have for our interpreters who served with our USMC. This petition acts as a measure to show we will support them in their process for safe exit and leagal exit through humanitarian parole or SIV recommendation, sharing with your friends and working with groups like AlliedExtract.org to help offset the cost of these this astronomical fee. Being free from the Taliban should be equitable. Help us get our people back with to us safely. These people are our people. They were left there to be slaughtered despite their best efforts to leave on the US GOVT. processing terms. This is unacceptable. This is not only about doing what is right but it is fighting for human rights, woman's rights and supporting our veterans and their families that stood beside them. Tell your local congressmen to support the quick processing of those who qualify for entry into the United States and to allow private entities who are helping keep them safe to be allowed to bring them back to us. Our interviews and stories are posted on the website for more information. The costs are rising as the situation in Afghanistan continues to escalate.

  • Body Shaming By Dress Coding
Let's put a end to body shaming by ending some of the unnecessary dress coding. Every person is built differently. Some things may fit bigger on some people while on others it may fit smaller. Unnecessary dress coding is causing self-esteem problems in many teenagers because they feel like their body isn’t enough because they may get dress coded for something that someone else didn’t get dress coded for when in reality no one is built the same. No one should have to feel like they are over or under weight because of how their clothes may fit & look on them. Wearing the same thing as someone else and looking different in it shouldn't get you singled out because yours shows your curves, form or fits differently and it should not be a reason to get dress coded. As long as everyone is covered it shouldn't matter how someones jeans, tights, shirts, etc covers the body. Also because of covid many parents and guardians are out of work and some students weren't able to return to school with new clothes this year and have to wear the same clothes from the past year so their clothes may fit tighter than they did the year before. Everyone doesn't have the same financial means to go shopping every time something fits a little tight so unnecessary dress coding is causing problems in many ways for these children. Body Shaming by dress coding needs to be stopped. Sign this petition in hopes for a change. Let's stop the body shaming now.

In our last petition we requested the removal of the charges “attempt to aid and escape”, having a cell phone, along with removal of 9 months of solitary confinement for creating a clothing line while incarcerated and going viral. He was released from solitary confinement 6 months early however, the charges remained and does affect his parole. This is why this is important. His tentative parole date is April 2024. Contrary to him making the clothes 10 months prior to these false allegations, the social media post shows the true intent for which they were made. If attempting to aid in escape was the true intent, then posting the clothes prior to an escape attempt would contradict that. The only thing my son is guilty of is altering state property and being overly ambitious and zealous in his efforts to rehabilitate himself so that he may become an asset rather than a liability to himself his family, and his community. • Expand the Supreme Court
New state laws restricting voter access, and gerrymandered districts both suppress voting and threaten democracy. Overly restrictive abortion laws make access to abortions unjustifiably difficult, threatening women’s right of choice. Overpriced drugs and medications and the inability to reduce their prices through government negotiations, together with other medical services, maintain a severe financial burden for millions of Americans. Tax loopholes and havens inaccessible to all but the very rich allow the wealthy to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. This places an unfair burden and financial hardship on the poor and middle classes as they are forced to pay in taxes what the rich should be paying.
