Levees Not Tax BreaksHurricane Isaac dumped nearly a foot of rain on New Orleans, but the system of levee pumps, walls, and gates appeared to withstand one of the stiffest challenges yet. Isaac arrived seven years after Hurricane Katrina and passed slightly to the west of New Orleans, where the city’s fortified levee system easily handled the assault. Meanwhile, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers, the U.S. needs $2.2 trillion in investments to bring its infrastructure into adequate shape, including $100 billion to repair levees. Extending the Bush tax breaks for the rich would make America’s already precarious infrastructure situation worse.35 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Terry Campbell

One inmate equals one job: reduce Pennsylvania prison populationA reduction of 25% in the non-violent prison population would save Pennsylvania $400 million dollars a year. We are asking Governor Corbett and the Pennsylvania legislature to reduce the prison population by 25% in 2013 and then immediately utilize the savings to rehire teachers and public workers and fund vital social services.19 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Wayne Howard

Tie corporate tax breaks to domestic job creationWe've been watching jobs get outsourced overseas for decades by the very same companies that are getting tax breaks and bailouts to keep them competitive. We need to incentivize domestic job creation, and remove incentives not tied to job creation.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by David Schlussel

Tax on Social Security BenefitsIRS Code on the amount of taxable income at which Social Security Benefits become taxable has not been adjusted for inflation since it was implimented in1983. Until 1983 there was no income tax on Social Security benefit income. I am a 99% person and pay income tax on 85% of my Social Security yearly benefits to me and my wife because our adjusted gross taxable income is over $35000. Middle class retired people need a brake!3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Donald J Dodd

Democrats should market progressive visual graphs showing progressI am continually bombarded with insulting fabricated lies from GOP supporters showing how liberals are bringing the country down. Its time the dems fight back with plenty of '3 -d pictures' of progress no matter how slowly we are bringing th country back from the depths of the second worst recession created by the previous two administrations. The 'general not readily exposed to the truth public' should have access to facts they can easily grasp - show the progress in pictures. Democratic marketing people can depict progress in a movie 3D DreamWorks style. Make it playful but with serious fact laden high impact visuals and go viral on social network sites across the nation and the rest of planet earth. Let the truth determine who runs the nation.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by methusala

Illinois Toll Authority Rate ReductionThe Illinois Toll Authority raised rates so that the toll on a lightweight single axle trailer is now 6 times what it was, and is 3 times more than a car pulling it. The rate used to be half the cost of a passenger car. It should be reversed to the old rate, or at least not more than a passenger car. Families pulling a pop-up camper or personal watercraft, now pay 3 times more for their trailer than their car. The reduced overnight rate is also illogical, because in order to save 12 percent, you have to drive in the dark, which is less safe.15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Peter Host

Keep it Simple, Senators (K.I.S.S. the IRS goodbye)Simplify the tax code, eliminate the IRS, save $10 billion annually, along with all of the stress and headache associated with the tax code. All IRS workers can be re-deployed as AmeriCorps workers, helping the country grow progressively rather than hampering it.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jeff Turpin

21st Century Rail System for the USAI have been frustrated for years knowing that the oil companies are the reason there is no modern rail system in the USA. It is criminal that we have no alternative to travel other than gas guzzling vehicles. Republicans and Democrats both seem muzzled. Florida scrapped network rail plan and more recently Wisconsin. How can this be happening? Talk about Obama' stimulus plans....... Why no move toward developing a national rail network? Think of the jobs created building a rail system. The Europeans and Asian governments not only don't allow the private interests to control their countries destinies they realize what is best for their people en masse : mass transit.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Frank Dell'Amore
