Governor "Bobby" Jindal has a long history of draconian, heartless cuts to funding to education & social services as DHH Sectetary & now as Governor, while dogmatically rejecting means of increasing revenue for the state budget, e.g. increase in cigarette tax, as well as rejecting federal funds for unemployment compensation. He is an embarrassment to the thinking people of the state of Louisiana. Demand rational fiscal responsibility and and an end to politically motivated, self-serving budget cuts to much needed services & the subsequent lay off of social services staff & educators.

Additional tax cuts for the rich are being proposed at the same time increases in college tuition, taxes, and other burdens are being proposed for those who can least afford them - the poor and middle class. Please help me remind our government that they exist for all the people, and not just the rich who finance their campaigns.

Many working class families in NYC as well as NYS are employed in jobs that only pay minimum wage. Some of these families are headed by single women with dependent children. For many such families this one paycheck must be stretch a number of ways to cover just the basic needs ie housing, food and clothing. Due to the current state of the economy, many social programs have cut in the state and federal budgets.

As a result, North Omaha’s unemployment rate is substantially higher than that of the rest of the city. Over 1 in 4 AfricanAmerican members of the workforceare unemployed.

Working families across New York State need the security of paid time off to care for a new child or seriously ill family member. For too many workers, the birth of a child or family health emergency creates a crisis that forces them to lose needed income or exit the workforce altogether. Low-income workers and their families are especially vulnerable because they often lack the financial resources to take any unpaid time off at all. Paid family leave improves the health of our families. It helps workers, especially new mothers, stay in the workforce after childbirth and helps close the wage gap. And businesses benefit by having more productive workers and reduced turnover. The federal Family and Medical Leave Act is unpaid and excludes more than 40% of all workers. The Paid Family Leave Insurance Act for New York State would provide workers with partial payment of their salary for up to 12 weeks to bond with a new child, care for a seriously ill family member, or address certain issues arising from a family member’s military service. Employers would not bear the cost of this benefit. Instead, paid family leave insurance benefits would be funded by employees through small paycheck contributions. Working families in New York deserve better. It’s time for Governor Cuomo to follow in California’s, New Jersey’s, and Rhode Island's footsteps and make paid family leave a priority now! To create demand for American made products we want all local, state and federal purchases for construction, maintanance, and supplies be at least sixty percent made in USA, with a goal of at least 90 percent by Jan. 1, 2015. This includes School districts and all city, state and national purchases for office supplies, building and maintenance.

Don't pass any laws that lower the unemployment compensation . Up the amount that people on unemployment receive. $240 Is not enough to live on especially for people with children . Repeal any laws that targets racial profiling like hispanics and blacks ! Give more money to the schools for education !

Keep almost 3 billions of dollars from going to the big oil companies on april 15!

It now appears as if the State of Colorado has the necessary revenue to reinstate the so-called "Seniors' Homestead Exemption" to give seniors a break on their property taxes (Denver Post, Mar. 27, 2012). Those who qualify as seniors (65 years of age or older) who have lived in their homes for at least ten years,could again have 50% of the first $200,000 of the value of their homes exempt from taxation. The State has revealed that this tax break is affordable. For those who are watching their living expenses increase even as their pensions and savings remain stable, this would be a significant way to allow many to remain in their homes while maintaining a decent, if modest, way of life.
