  • "Yes" to public schools; "No" to voucher expansion
Don't be misled by the education reform movement. Public schools in Indiana are not failing! They have been steadily improving over the last 20 years. The Indiana Coalition for Public Education supports focusing public tax dollars on the K-12 education of public school students and opposes legislation that funds private school vouchers. That's why we're organizing a Statehouse Rally March 19.

  • Reinstate Military Tuition Assistance
As a result of sequestration the Department of Defense has cut funding for programs that are critical to the personal and professional development of American service members. Thousands of men and women rely on tuition assistance to pay for their education while they serve. These budget cuts cannot be tolerated. http://www.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=119510 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/12/tuition-assistance-us-airmen_n_2861442.html?utm_hp_ref=college

  • Stand up for the separation of church and state
We should all care about maintaining a separation of church and state, which benefits religious groups by keeping government out of their internal affairs and benefits each of us personally by preventing us from being forced to subsidize religious beliefs or institutions with which we disagree. Also, if our tax money does not go to religious schools (which are constitutionally protected in their right to discrimination and, for example, to teach children that gays and lesbians are undeserving of equal rights), we will have more money for our public schools (which are controlled by us all and cannot legally discriminate).

  • Do Not Change Alaska's Constitution! This Will Not Help Our Rural Schools.
We do not want our legislators changing Alaska's constitution. These changes will HURT RURAL ALASKA'S SCHOOLS! Members of our legislature, through SJR 9, want to change Alaska's constitution so that it allows private and religious schools, through a voucher system, to have access to Alaska's pool of public education funds. If the constitutional changes do go through this will require public schools to share this money with schools that have little or no oversight. Our rural school families have very few if any school choices outside of our public schools. Small village school families have no choices. Vouchers will not help them! Our pioneer Alaskan trailblazers, in their infinite wisdom, saw the need to keep public school money only for public schools so we can keep our schools current, safe, and a great place to learn and work throughout the whole state.

  • Stop Bullying In Our Schools
Over 5.7 million public school children are estimated to be involved in bullying as either a bully, a target of bullying, or both. Increasingly more and more children are being bullied, beaten, and harmed within schools, interfering with the victims receiving their education and what is supposed to be a safe environment. This MUST change to protect our children. Please help us put an end to bullying and get justice for our children.

  • Please-No Guns Mandated for Texas Schools
I am asking that the Texas Legislators Not pass new laws to require Texas teachers to carry guns or take mandated training- as these new laws are extremely dangerous, unnecessary, and place an additional burden on teachers. In addition, funding these proposed new laws is just an additional way to drain monies away from our already underfunded school budgets for academics in order to promote gun sales or training programs. for a few in the business community! at the expense of students/teachers/parents and taxpayers.

  • VISD: Keep the current trimester schedule at VHS
Reasons you should want a trimester schedule: 1) More electives 2) More credits on graduation, making students more competitive when applying to higher education. (70 minute periods make the credits work out to the state requirements) 3) There's no middle/high school mixing. (High School is then different, making it an exciting new challenge for Middle Schooler's, and something to look forward to.) 4) Classes that are 2/3 of year turn into full year in semesters, forcing students to take classes they do not enjoy for longer, and thusly creating a resistance to learning. People like change in classes for more exciting experience. 5) Tris are longer classes. Therefore students have more work time with teacher assistance and better labs. 6) Having semesters is not popular among students, or parents. This means less money is donated because of less support to school district, and commuters won't want to come, losing the district even more money. The parents of commuters and the commuters students like Vashon because it's unique, it has a ton of interesting electives, and semesters makes less uniqueness and less electives.
