• JeffCo Public Schools: Stop disclosing confidential student information to corporations without p...
We oppose the disclosure of confidential student information to a private corporation called inBloom, Inc. by JeffCo Public Schools and the Colorado Department of Education. This highly sensitive information, which will include students’ names, addresses, test scores, grades, attendance, economic, health and special education status, and detailed disciplinary records, will be stored in a vulnerable “data cloud” and made available to vendors, to help for-profit companies develop and market their learning products. This unprecedented sharing of children’s confidential information is scheduled to occur before the 2013-2014 school year; it is happening without the notification or consent of parents. There are huge risks involved in this violation of our children’s privacy, including potential data leaks. Until the school district and/or state holds public hearings to fully explain the purpose of this project, the safeguards that will be put in place, and provides parents with the right to consent, this unethical disclosure of confidential data must cease.

  • Support Contraception Education in South Carolina
Approximately 17 teens give birth in South Carolina everyday and in 2008 the state paid approximately $198 million dollars on teen pregnancy. Teen mothers are more likely to live in poverty and survive on public assistance. Contraceptive education can help to prevent these issues. These are the facts: (from the SC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy) *6,024 teens aged 15-19 gave birth in 2011 *26% of these were already teen parents *20% of teen pregnancies in 2010 ended in abortion *57% percent of high school students have reported that they have had sex Endorsing a comprehensive sexual education program that includes abstinence but also promotes proper contraception use can benefit the cause of ending teen pregnancy.

  • VA Beach Public Schools - Add Lacrosse to school sports
As many school systems across the country and state are considering downsizing or eliminating middle or high school sports programs, the sport of lacrosse, which is both a male and female team sport, should be taken into consideration to add to all public VA Beach middle and high schools. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport among high school programs across the country and in Virginia. One of the finest public institutions of higher education in the state, Univ of VA, has a top 5 men's and ladies lacrosse team, and the men won the NCAA National Championship two years ago. Although public High School systems in Northern VA and Richmond now offer school sponsored lacrosse programs, Hampton Roads does not, and VA Beach which is the largest city in the state and one of the largest school systems in the state, does not offer lacrosse as a VHSL team sponsored sport. More youth between the ages of 10 - 18 play lacrosse than participate in wrestling, gymnastics, tennis, volleyball, or golf. We need to add this sport NOW to compete with the Northern VA and Richmond area school systems as well as the private schools.

  • School Board: Don't Cut Macon Early College
As a student of Macon Early College, I know how much of a difference this school has made, not only to me, but to several other people who would not have had an opportunity like this. Our education should be top priority for the School Board, so why do they want to cut an important program like this? Please sign by March 15th! Pass it on!

  • Phillip Precourt Don't cut Education
Education had been cut far too much in this state. I am a newly certified educator who is considering a move out of New York upon completion of my Masters Degree in August. This makes me sick, but I simply must go where I can get a job in my desired field. As a father I also have great concerns about the future of New York schools. Now one of the best in the nation, but with more significant cuts looming will the same be said in the future? Please consider cutting your pay and doing your share before curing from an industry that develops the future of your state. Do not let more and more teachers go unemployed.

There is an elementary school that is trying to get rid of a program that allows students to display talent and discover talent. If I can get enough signatures to the principal, it may change his mind.
