TEXAS LEGISLATURE: STOP SENATE BILL 182We who study, teach and work on college campuses are personally affected by the potential of the legislation (Texas state lawmakers filed Senate Bill 182) involving guns on college campuses. Firearms and education should not mix. College campuses are places of learning, not places for guns and gun vaults.259 of 300 SignaturesCreated by R Khan

Injurious PELL Grant cuts in 2012This petition is regarding the PELL Grant eligibility drop, from 16 semesters to 12, in the 2012 Transportation Bill. Damaged students include all those to which all of the following criteria apply: Low income, returning/non-traditional, attending a 4 year STEM program at an accredited state university full-time, and were attending full-time when the bill went into effect. Without congressional reconsideration and an amendment clause, many may never finish their degree; leaving thousands of people with education debt they will never be able to pay off. I have personally been financially and emotionally burdened by this cut, to the extent that the stress has now begun to affect my health. I am not alone in this. There are thousands of similarly affected adult students across America; all debating whether to take out high interest loans to cover tuition for the next 2 years, or to just quit half way through and cut their losses. I beg you to sign this petition to add an amendment clause to the bill, excluding this injured minority of students.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kathy Moore

Open Access to School Board Meetings SB134 & HB127Currently school boards are able to decide when to hold their meetings, even if the meetings are held at time when the population most impacted by their decisions is not able to participate. High School students participating in a Democracy in Action Initiative crafted a idea that school boards in the state should be required to hold meetings at a time when students, parents and employees can attend, after school hours. Senator Jeremy Ring and Representative Richard Stark recognizing that the students were on to something agreed to propose the legislation in the State Legislature.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Adam Cohen

Stand with us as we join together to exercise our right to form a union of adjunct professors!Low compensation, no benefits or job security, and lack of respect for the important work we do endanger our profession and make it increasingly difficult for us to do our best for our students. That's why adjunct professors across the greater Boston area are coming together to form a union with SEIU. We believe that together we can build the strong voice we need to raise standards for our profession and improve the quality of education for our students.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by SEIU

Movement Against the Semester System at Drexel UniversityDrexel University is motioning to move from the well-loved quarter system to the standard semester school calendar. This will create numerous problems with Co-op cycles, credit transfers, and degree plans of study. The University needs to hear our opinion on this matter before moving forward.223 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Michael Koerner

Preserve Ohio's University Regional CampusesOhio Gov. John Kasich's imposition of a corporate model onto public education has found a new target in his proposals regarding college and university funding. Chief among the problems is the elimination of separate funding for the university regional campuses that would undermine their open-access mission and thus close the path to the middle class for many Ohioans . This petition was started by a large group of regional campus faculty from around the state who want to preserve the important role out institutions play in the state's higher education system.148 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Regional Campuses

GRANT PROFESSOR JOHN BOYLE TENUREWe request that the Board of Trustees seriously re-examine the reasons behind Dr. Boyle's denial of tenure. What we have read suggests he has been treated very unfairly and not with the best interest of NEIU students in mind.146 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Karen Smith

Stand by teachers and unionsWhy has Kansas voted for ruining the unions and teacher rights? It may very well destroy the qualityt education system we presently have in Kansas. I have been a teacher for 27 years and am proud of the work I have done and the excellence to students Kansas schools has provided. Teachers have asked very little for their level of education, time and commitment and have definitely not received the monetary rewards they deserve. But to now trying to silence them and take away their rights will be the ruination of public school system and perhaps this is what many legislators want, but as a community, this is NOT what the public wants. I am surprised by the recent legislation and actions and will be watching closely to see who votes against education, unions and public education.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rob Davis

Stop supporting a State Ran Private SchoolMy children attended public school in the bush of Alaska. They were not able to get the quality of education that children in urban Alaska can. In part to the fact that monies needed by the bush schools are going to a private boarding school in Sitka. The time for Mt. Edgecumbe has come and gone. We want the monies for our sons and daughters to stay at home and not support a private school.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by DeForrest Inman, jr.

Save Henry HallI just graduated Hiram last year in 2012. Like many of you I admire the strong sense of friendship and welcoming community found in Henry Hall. It is the kind of sanctuary that I hope will be available for future generations to come as it was available to the generations that came before ours. Let it be known that we do not want Henry Hall closed. Other options should be discussed between Hiram students and faculty to include options that would see the dorm remaining open for future generations of Terriers to enjoy. The fiscal situation of Hiram College is of much importance but so is the cultural and social identity that has existed for decades and across generations of students, faculty, and alumni. Shuttering Henry would not only be closing doors on a dorm but closing the doors on a vibrant, unique aspect of Hiram's history and legacy.27 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Thomas Lacerda
