• Pink Slips in Scranton
The Pennsylvania auditor general cited the Scranton School District as the "worst audit" he has ever seen. The district's response is to furlough 98 teachers, including: Librarians (all), Health/Physical Education, Art, English, Science, Special Education, Mathematics, Family Consumer Science, Music and Industrial Arts On Feb. 9, 2018, the general counsel of the governor’s office sent a letter to the Scranton School District saying, "... the District [must] immediately discontinue and reverse any action to suspend any professional employee. ..." Further, if the district refuses to comply, then it would "... lead to the Department taking action to protect the students and employees of the District." The Scranton School District has chosen to ignore the governor! Sign this petition demanding that the Scranton School District board of directors follow the recommendation of the Office of General Counsel and immediately reinstate the 98 educators who received pink slips.

One of our teachers here, at the School of WeBSS, is not getting his contract renewed for reasons we as students don't see as valid. Many of the students here see him as a very important part of the community and as a role model. He is an advocate for the kids of our community and emphasizes the importance of doing what is important to them. He gives them an example to take into consideration when stepping into Adulthood

  • Betsy DeVos Needs To Stand Down
I am concerned that Secretary DeVos is unqualified for her post. She does not seem to know very much about public education.

  • We want Moses returned to the Charlevoix High School and his classmates!
It is the continuation of our request to bring our special need son back to the school and classmates he was with for five years. He is now in a non-inclusive program (totally different) and we believe wrong and harmful to him. He is not with the classmates and non-disabled peers (per the IDEA) and they have him on a bus for one hour and twenty minutes one way,

  • The Right To Play For Any School
I want students to be able to play with a team that's not in their district if they so may choose. I have been personally affected by this because I was recently told I was not allowed to play with people I have been playing with since 1st grade because they are not in my chosen district and neither is the school to which they go.

  • Paul F. Doyon Memorial School
My uncle Paul F. Doyon was killed in Vietnam; he and my family were honored by the town with a school memorialized in his name. With immediate members of his family still living in Ipswich, it would break my heart to see his name removed when they build a new school.

  • Expand Student-to-Service Student Loan Repayment Programs
Most students leave college in crippling debt with no work experience. Meanwhile, Betsy DeVos, Paul Ryan, and Trump appear to be doing their level best to dismantle any programs that have been historically helpful. Programs such as Teach America and the HRSA Student Loan Repayment Program provide students with a way to pay back a major portion of their loans by working for schools or agencies that work with underserved populations. This provides students with work experience, eases their debt, helps overworked agencies, and ultimately strengthens the infrastructure of the country. This petition asks Congress and the Department of Education to expand existing Student-to-service programs and provide incentives for the development of new ones. The goal of these programs is to help community agencies with employee retention, strengthen aid to underserved populations, and help new graduates get the work experience and debt relief they need.
