California: Stop toxic wastewater dumping by oil companiesThe oil and gas industry in California produces 130 billion gallons of wastewater every year from fracking and other forms of oil extraction. This massive waste stream is highly toxic, laced with chemicals, salts and often radioactive materials. Unlined pits allow toxic chemicals to percolate into the ground and evaporate into the air. It's time for Big Oil to stop poisoning potential sources of drinking and irrigation water, and polluting our air. There are over 400 active pits in the Central Valley, where pollution and the drought have already severely reduced ground and surface water resources. Most of these pits are operating without adequate monitoring or oversight. The Central Valley Water Board has detected toxic plumes of wastewater that have migrated from some of the largest waste pits, yet has continued to allow dumping! Air samples near some pits detected 24 different volatile organic compounds (VOC's), yet air regulators have done nothing to limit the pollution. Tell Animal Planet to pull the Yukon Men episode "Wolf Invasion"!Animal Planet is acting in total disregard to the health and welfare of the gray wolf by airing a "Yukon Men" episode titled "Wolf Invasion" which perpetuates the myth that wolves are dangerous to humans. This is simply untrue, as wolves are extremely wary of humans and try at all costs to avoid contact with humans. No Road to AmblerThe Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority's (AIDEA) 220-mile road proposal is poorly planned and studied and does not adequately account for long term damage to local wildlife, waterways, and ways of life. AIDEA's consistent disrespect of major local opposition while spending state funds to subsidize corporate liabilities and privatize foreign profit is not consistent with Walker administration values. This project should be stopped before wasting any additional resources.329 of 400 SignaturesCreated by John Gaedeke

Utah Needs Clean EnergyIn 2008 the Utah Legislature established a vision to promote clean energy jobs, improve air quality and protect Utahns from dangerous climate change with a Clean Energy Goal of 20% of electricity to come from renewable sources by 2025. Senate Bill 202 passed both houses without a single no vote. Rocky Mountain Power/ PacifiCorp (RMP) will shortly propose a long-term plan for electricity supply during the period from 2015 through 2025 that will likely include no significant utility investment in geothermal, hydropower, solar or wind power generation facilities in Utah. Despite strong support from Utahns and record low prices for installed solar and wind power, RMP plans to sell electricity in Utah of which less than 3% derives from non-polluting, renewable sources. Utah has tremendous solar and wind potential that RMP is mostly ignoring. Utah is one of the sunniest states in our nation yet ranks 26th in adoption of solar power (0.2% of total generation). Utah has abundant land and rooftops where solar photo-voltaic power can be produced. A commitment to embrace these resources would have a profound positive gain for Utah's economy, by creating new jobs and diverse industries that will be here for the long haul. We therefore urge the Utah Legislature to upgrade the 2008 bill that was aspirational but has still not produced a change in how power is generated. We would like to see a Clean Energy Standard that requires a minimum of 20% of Utah’s electric power coming from in-state renewables by 2025. Stop the Uintah Express PipelineThe Uintah Express Pipeline is proposed to travel through rural agricultural areas and fragile ecosystems. The Land is home to many endangered and rare wild life species as well as several human populations. The Pipeline puts the Kamas Valley aquifir at risk which provides drinking water to about 1/3 the population of Utah, and also connects to numerous other water reservoirs, rivers, lakes and other aquifer sources. The communities affected have limited resources and are ill equipped to handle the imminent danger of a spill. The oil which will travel through the pipeline is a waxy crude derived from Bitumen mined at the PR Springs tar sands mine. Bitumen crude is 20 times more corrosive than traditional crude oil and presents a more significant danger. The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a warning about the difference between Bitumen pipelines and Crude pipelines stating that Bitumen pipelines should be given higher concern given the corrosive nature of the substance it carries and the extent of damage caused in the event of a spill. Stop the Uintah Express Pipeline, there is too much risk.71 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sara Caldwell

Stop logging in our parksWe have a local park in Mt. Morris, Wisconsin. Without anyone's consent in Waushara county, local loggers are clear cutting trees, stating the trees are diseased. A highly educated arbitrator looked at the acres that have thus far been destroyed by loggers for personal profit, stating there are very few trees with disease. We need to save this beautiful mountain-park.87 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mary

Governor Wolf: We Need a Stop to FrackingHuge victory in New York! It's official: The state of New York banned fracking! Pennsylvanians Against Fracking is calling on Governor-elect Tom Wolf to join Governor Cuomo in moving our state away from dangerous fracking. This victory is because of the years of education, mobilization and advocacy work to build the political power for holding Governor Cuomo accountable to the people, not the oil and gas industry. New Yorkers Against Fracking, the strong network of allies and grassroots activists encouraging Cuomo to ban fracking, is directly responsible for this victory. Pennsylvania can be the next state to stop fracking. Pennsylvanians Against Fracking, our statewide coalition with over 80 member organizations, is working to build the grassroots power needed to show Governor-elect Wolf the people of Pennsylvania want him to stop fracking. After activists demanded that the health effects of fracking be studied, a two year investigation by the state's own commission confirmed what the movement has been saying all along, that fracking cannot be done safely. New York has set an example that the rest of the country should follow to make sure that families in every state are protected from fracking.155 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Pennsylvanians Against Fracking

Looking at you, Gov. BrownIn a HUGE win for the planet and fractivists everywhere, Gov. Cuomo and his Health Department moved to ban fracking.* Fracking is a seriously dirty drilling practice that involves blasting a toxic mixture of sand, chemicals and water deep underground to shatter the bedrock, and extract tiny particles of methane gas. The practice has been linked to flamable faucets, polluted drinking water, climate chaos and even earthquakes.** Despite historic drought, California continues to waste what little water the state has on fracking. With the state's water running dry, tell Jerry Brown to stop fracking and protect California water. So it should have come as no surprise that when asked whether he would allow HIS family to live next to a fracking site, NY state Department of Health Deputy Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker replied simple "no."*** If fracking isn't safe for New Yorkers, why is it still allowed in most California Counties? Sign here to ask Governor Jerry Brown to step up and BAN fracking in California for good. ---------- * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mubbXS0-qf4 ** http://www.environmental-action.org/tags/fracking?page=1 *** http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/18/nyregion/cuomo-to-ban-fracking-in-new-york-state-citing-health-risks.html?_r=01,727 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Drew Hudson
