Last week, the news broke that the FCC intends to blow us off and betray the principle of equal access to the Internet. We need to stop them. Later this month they'll meet to start working on a new regulation that would allow Internet Service Providers like Comcast and Verizon to make it relatively harder for us to access other content -- and make it easier for us to access content whose owners (big corporations) pay them fees. Big corporations that can afford to pay fees will finally have taken over the Internet -- just like they have TV, radio, and newspapers. And it'll be harder for independent businesses, artists, news outlets, and activists like us to survive. We need to pressure the FCC to scrap this plan and start over, by implementing real open Internet rules that treat everybody equally and fairly and don't tilt the Internet in ways that benefit big corporations.

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has proved he is running the FCC totally at the beck and call of the big telecom industry he once worked for. The citizens of the USA need and deserve a free and unfettered Internet. Net neutrality is THE free speech issue of this moment in US history.

NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio promised to settle the school safety agent equal pay lawsuit when he became mayor. School safety agents are paid $7000 less than other law enforcement titles that have the same duties and responsibilities as the school safety agent title , its just that the school safety division is comprised of %70 female agents , most of which are black and hispanic . The mayor needs to own up to his promise to settle the equal pay lawsuit .

Last week, Gov. Paul LePage inexplicably vetoed the Maine Foods Bill, which would help enable Maine farms to feed more of us—a real no-brainer, given that Maine imports more of its food than any other state in the continental U.S, and the huge benefits of eating locally to our environment, health, and local economy. LD 1431 would jumpstart the development of food hubs—a key part of the infrastructure needed to bring Maine’s local foods movement to scale. Food hubs enable small farmers to team up and pool their produce and other products so together they have enough volume to reach larger markets, such as grocery stores, schools, and hospitals. While the Maine Foods Bill passed by veto-proof marjorities, Republicans have been very reluctant to vote against the governor. That's why we need your help today to convince lawmakers that increasing Maine-grown food in our schools and homes is so broadly supported and so common sense that they need to stick to their guns. One reason why people don’t vote is if they haven't registered as required almost one month before Election Day. That deadline is arbitrary and unnecessary. Often, the election debate doesn't really get going until the last few weeks before Election Day – after the registration deadline. SDR would allow Illinois to join ten other states such as California and Minnesota, plus D.C., in removing arbitrary and unnecessary deadlines that complicate the registration process. Four of the five states with the highest voter turnout in 2012 offered SDR. The average voter turnout rate was over 10% higher in states with SDR than in other states. Tell your elected officials to support Same Day Registration in Illinois.

The Fair Elections Now Act will encourage more ordinary Americans to make small contributions to candidates by reimbursing them through a refundable tax credit and encourage candidates to seek out funds from a broad swath of their constituents by matching small donations with public funds. Fair Elections wouldn’t add a dime to the deficit. It would be financed by a fee on annual federal contracts over $10 million.

Secrecy in government grew to an unprecedented level under both Bush presidencies, and has only increased in the Obama White House. We, the American People, no longer have any idea what our elected officials are doing, or whom they are serving

The people of Colorado deserve better than a politician who claims to represent us while selling us out to corporate lobbyist and special interests on swanky yachts. Con Man Cory Gardner claims to be in Washington fighting for the people of Colorado, but his record tells a different story. Gardner has quickly become a creature of the Washington, D.C. insider crowd, taking advantage of every perk offered to him by corporate lobbyists and out-of-state special interests.

This constitutional amendment will bring back political power to the individual voter. It will be easily enforceable and a strong rebuke to the recent supreme court decision on financial contributions.

The Supreme Court has gutted more than one hundred years of campaign finance laws and given corporations and the rich even more power over our government -- with the outrageous rationale that limiting spending on elections limits speech. If our democratic system of representative government is to survive, these deeply damaging rulings must be overturned. SB 1272 will put a proposition on this November's ballot that will let California voters demand that Congress create a constitutional amendment to do so. Tell the California Senate to pass it now!

Massachusetts coastal beaches have been available for recreational metal detecting for as long as I can remember. Recently I was approached by a DCR Ranger and advised that metal detecting will no longer be allowed on State Beaches and come July 1, 2014 citizens will start being ticketed if found to be metal detecting on a Massachusetts State Beach. I do not see why this form of recreation should be taken away from the citizens that enjoy metal detecting. There are thousands of us that enjoy the hobby and follow strict guidelines and a code of conduct when it comes to metal detecting. We remove any trash that we find on the beaches and we conduct ourselves in a respectable manner. In fact there have been sponsored events conducted by metal detecting vendors on Massachusetts beaches that have been enjoyed by many children and adults of this state. I personally don't know of any incident involving a metal detectorist that would give cause to ban detecting from beaches. As a matter of fact, I only know of metal detectorists helping others by returning lost jewelry and other items that they have found while detecting. We urge you to continue to allow the popular recreational activity of metal detecting on Massachusetts State Beaches.
