In order for Congress to create Legislation to help reduce our deficits, they must work together not have a non-congressman in control of their being able to negotiate - Grover Norquist is not an elected official.

Quite simply, our election system is not based on one-citizen/one-vote. By eliminating the Electoral College and going to a popular vote, we won't have another Supreme Court deciding who gets to be president. There is no Electoral College at any level other when voting for president. It's in the way of free and fair elections.

Money spent in Elections has gotten obscene. Term limits will not work. Finance reform has not worked. Candidates are now beholding to the money on both sides.

Thousands of veterans have, and are, returning home to the United States with the relevant skills to fill job positions in areas of transportation, engineering, mechanics, medicine, education, computer science, and a number of other fields. Unfortunately, their valued skills do not count on the job marked unless these qualified veterans also have certificates, such as licenses and degrees, validating their training. There is a simple solution to this problem: the department of defense could partner with all universities that receive federal funding to ensure that the training and experience our veterans gain in battle are transferred into licenses and degrees before they are honorably discharged. Many of our universities and community colleges already have programs in place that recognize work experience and training outside the traditional classroom as credit towards a degree or license. By forming partnerships with universities and colleges the department of defense could easily provide licenses and degrees to our service men and women that reflect their talents, training, and experience. Funding from the GI Bill could pay for the certificates and licenses before the service member is discharged. In addition, the program could be retroactive to help those that have already been discharged but meet the requirements.

We need to raise awareness, first of all, as to what exactly a fillibuster is. I just saw a vote in the U.S. Senate in which a bill to raise benefits for war veterans was "voted down" despite support from 58 out of 100 senators. If we do not abolish the fillibuster, we will continue to see sensible solutions to problems flushed away due to partisan hooliganism.

Mandatory Paper Ballots shall be required. Electronic voting machines are not to be allowed in any election, nationwide.

A referendum should be proposed to eliminate the Electoral College and permit citizens to elect the President and Vice President by a simple majority vote.

The large corporations and the super-rich give vast amounts of money to our legislators' campaigns so that they will pass laws favorable to them. They spend large amounts, also, to defeat those who are opposed to their interests. That leaves the rest of us, the 99 percent, without a voice in our government. The result is the top one percent accumulates more and more wealth, and the rest of us less and less.

Make it easier for the President of the United States to make revamp his own administration. As it stands now these changes need to go through Congress.

It is time that our elected officials start putting policy ahead of their party. This bickering between both parties has to stop. They are no longer truly concerned about the American people and issues that effect them. Each party refuses to reach a bipartisanship on policies that will benefit the American people. It is time that they start to cooperate with each other and make a genuine effort to reach an agreement on policies rather than putting the party interest first. Furthermore they need to stop being in the pockets of big corporations and stop putting the needs and interests of these corporations ahead of the American people.

Like Kentucky's Governor Steve Beshear congress should cut their government salaries by 10%. This would help decrease the national debt. And leave my social security and medicare alone!!!

It's clear that we've got to amend the U.S. Constitution to overrule the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. But most of the amendments in play in Congress deal only with the problem of money in politics (see http://FreeSpeechForPeople.org/node/441 ). That's important, but we have to go deeper too: Citizens United also said corporations have constitutional rights, like free speech, as if they were people. This gives corporations the power to get the courts to throw out all kinds of laws they don't like - including food labeling, health, environmental, and civil rights laws as well as laws on money in politics. We need an amendment that makes it clear that people, not corporations, are in charge of America. The People's Rights Amendment, H.J. Res 88, does this (see http://PeoplesRightsAmendment.org ).
