  • Americans United For Ethics Reform
Why do we allow rules that are the equivalent to political bribery? Why do we permit private interests to create conflicts of interest between our elected representatives and ourselves? For much too long, private special interests have been bullying our representatives into showering them with our tax dollars through contracts and subsidies and deregulating industry regardless to We The People's needs. These corporations, with their war chests of money and their corporate tool candidates, threaten to oppose anyone who cares about putting We The People's interests ahead of their own. Let's work to declare our representatives independent from the lingering threat of corporate retaliation that comes from doing what's in We The People's interests by supporting those candidates who support this pledge. This Citizens Protection Pledge is an oath to We The People that will work to eliminate the dangerous conflict of interest that is created when public representatives accept special interest money. Let's effectively end the corrupt practice of politicians putting in a term or two and then going to work as a high paid lobbyist or even going to work in any capacity for a corporation that has a lobbying department. Will you please sign our new Americans United petition and share it with your friends and family all over the United States? The greater the awareness of the systematic corruption and its ill effects on our democracy the greater will be our ability to overpower it. All in all, persons who are running for elected offices and who sign this Pledge deserve to be considered on their merits to fulfill the needs of the elected office and if they do so, should be considered for election to said office over others running for said office who have not signed this Pledge. Thanks for all you do. Sincerely, Ben Bosley America United Keep updated and join the dialogue: www.facebook.com/AzUnited Resources: moveon.org connectthedotsusa.com

  • Term limits for Congressmen and women
Our representatives spend much of their time fund raising to enable them to stay in office. Long term congressional people are subservient to lobbyists' money, not the good of the country. The constitution did not envision career politicians!

  • Stop wasting taxpayer money with political theater
The Republican leaders of the House are about to (yet again--they have done this 30 times already) take a vote to repeal the Health Care Law. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of this, and there is no way this will pass the Senate. Why are they wasting our money and not getting down to work on issues that can get something done? Even if this takes only an hour of their time, this costs the US taxpayers over $38,000 not counting administrative costs! If this were a private corporation, these people would be fired.

  • Rep. Cravaack: Schedule a Town Hall meeting in Duluth!
Rep. Cravaack hasn't held a public town hall in Duluth, the largest urban center in his district, in almost a year. We've been trying to reach Rep. Cravaack to talk to us about his support for the GOP's Billionaire Budget, his vote to scale-back the Violence Against Women Act, and all the other times he's put the 1% before his constituents. We called his local constituent office and his congressional office in D.C, but we haven’t had any luck tracking him down. On June 15, Rep. Cravaack told us that he was planning something "special" for Duluth. But he refused to say when or where.

  • Abolish the Electoral College
Electoral votes determine who our president will be, not the popular vote. The 538 Electoral voters are hand picked by the polital parties. This Red state - Blue state winner takes all approach is archaic and a dangerous concentration of power. Since 1944 every Gallup poll indicates the majority of Americans are in favor of an amendment to allow for direct election of the president. The 17th amendment gave us direct election of senators. It's time to take back the power of the vote and abolish the electoral college! To better understand how the electoral collage works: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2004/story?id=199823&page=1

  • Separation of Cash and State
Elected officials need to be able to run and debate other politicians running for public office on the merits of their specific policies they are promoting without taking money contributions to fund their campaigns. The old way of politicians going to the wealthy, the wealthy sponoring a politician and big business financing political campaigns only corrupts and influences our elected decision makers to pass laws and regulations to benifit those that fund their campaigns.

  • Term Limits
We need to put term limits on all Senators, Congressman, Alderman, Judges and even Supreme Court Judges. Many of these individuals are just sitting there biding their time to retire on obscene pensions while they enrich themselves at the expense of taxpayers.
