• End the NRA's tax exempt stautus
I was horrified to read on Facebook - and verified through Snopes -that the NRA is registered as a tax-exempt organization. This is galling in the light of the millions it gives to make sure that our gun laws are weak and ineffective. At this time of #Neveragain it's time to end this.

  • Secure Schools in Indiana
We’ve got to focus on solutions that work! Every time a tragedy such as Parkland occurs, we debate online, then forget about it, fail to take action, and it happens all over again! Our kids fear that a routine fire drill could result in another school shooting! We are asking Governor Holcomb as well as the entire Indiana Senate to step up and protect our kids so that they can focus on their education instead of fearing a possible gunman in their school! The number of School Shootings continue to be on the rise yet very little has been done to keep our children safe! Secure Our Schools ! Increase funding in the Secured School Safety Program to address specific school safety needs within each school district. This includes school hardening measures like metal detectors, bullet-proof glass, steel doors, and upgraded locks. Establish funding to require access to dedicated mental health counselors to provide direct counseling services to students at every school. These counselors cannot serve dual roles, like teaching or academic advising. Every student must have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a mental health professional, and receive ongoing counseling as needed. Require law enforcement officers in every school. Require that each officer have mandatory active shooter training as outlined by the Department of Homeland Security.

  • Fix The Gun Control Background Check System
In the wake of the Parkland massacre on February 14, it is clearly necessary that We the People of the United States of America mandate that our government take active steps to ensure our safety by improving the background check system used to determine who can purchase and possess firearms. This legislation has bipartisan support and has been introduced by Senators John Cornyn (R-TX), Tim Scott (R-SC), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Dean Heller (R-NV), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Chris Murphy (D-CT). Furthermore, we must hold our government accountable and ensure the law is properly implemented. After the Virginia Tech shooting, Congress and the President passed legislation authorizing $1.3 Billion to be spent on improving this system but actually only spent a fraction of the authorized amount. Hundreds of people's lives could have been saved had they simply done their job. Link to bill: https://www.cornyn.senate.gov/sites/default/files/Fix%20NICS%20Act%20Bill%20Text.pdf

  • Repeal the Dickey Amendment!
Knowledge is power. "Because of the Dickey Amendment, there has been almost no publicly funded research on gun violence, leaving lawmakers without critical studies needed to write legislation to combat this epidemic. Even the author of the amendment, former Congressman Jay Dickey, came to regret the piece of policy and called on Congress to reverse the law. " - Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.)

  • Gun Control
Statistics reveal that our country is much more violent than many other countries in the world which is a horrible reflection on our nation. Other developed nations have established gun control so we have examples to study as we can improve our country like they have done. Safety for all by limiting the guns available can happen with leaders who are committed to those which is what the majority of the country wants. Do we have to become worse than Yemen before we decide there is a problem? Hopefully not.

  • Tell Etsy to stop showcasing guns and gun art
Today when I opened my Etsy trends email I saw a picture of a Glock gun magazine connector. I never look at guns, so I was horrified to find this among my interests. Even worse, throughout the page of choices there were several offerings of gun-related merchandise. Some were overtly sexual. After the horrors of the recent school shootings, this made me heartsick. Is Etsy now part of the NRA gun culture? Tell Etsy to stop offering gun-related merchandise NOW! To see screenshots I took, please visit my site at www.olivialarosa.com.
