• Governor McCrory: Do the right thing. Pardon them!
My community is personally affected by the disproportionality of wrongful convictions of African American males as well as the disparate numbers of African Americans in prisons for the last two decades and beyond. It is time we take action when we are made aware of these injustices. You may not be able to march, or attend meetings, or take a message to your legislators or governor, but you can sign a petition. That does not require you to leave your home and it costs you nothing but a few minutes. Please sign - they could have been your relatives.

  • Time Served: TEXAS EX-FELONS will no longer be punished FOREVER
This petition is about reform only, not to ask that records be wiped clean or hidden from view. I was convicted of a felony drug charge in 1996 when I was 19 years old and my story is like many others. I went to prison, successfully completed parole, and went on to community college to receive an AA in Business. But still at 37 years old it's hard to find work. Companies will not hardly even give the opportunity to even speak about these convictions or give interviews because felon is in association with the applicant. I'm asking that the Felon Reentry Program that is already in place be reformed with true possibilities at gaining livable employment. I feel that it's time to reform the laws that are forcing felons into the backgrounds of life. People make mistakes and some actually learn from them. Please consider giving a felon like myself another opportunity at being a productive citizen again. This is a petition for a program that will take baby steps possibly but steps all the same into securing sustainable wages with companies that pay living wages. Of course there are many food service positions available but these jobs are merely for teenagers. There are many felons that have a desire to be a productive partner with respectable companies and are willing to do the necessary work to gain that opportunity, and I speak on behalf of those felons. I ask for opportunities to be made available to us as well. I feel that now is the time to reform the stigma associated with non violent drug offenses, especially if there has been a substantial amount of time passed showing no more criminal activity.

  • Consistent Enforcement of Restraining Orders
I am a survivor of severe domestic violence and sexual assaults. Fortunately, I have moved forward and have my B.S.W. and soon my M.S.W. All individuals need to be provided with the same opportunities to move forward in life in a positive direction. Children are becoming orphans at a staggering rate due to fatalities related to domestic violence and sexual assaults.

I see too many young black Americans in jail for a minor offense such as this, affecting their lives most adversely.

  • Reduce Louisiana's Marijuana Sentencing
Louisiana has the highest incarceration rate in the country. As states move to legalize marijuana, it is time to at least reduce sentencing for non-violent marijuana arrests. Legalization would help reduce inmate populations, and help to raise much needed tax revenues.

  • Maryland Must Join South Carolina's Lead and Pass Legislation Approving Body Cameras for All Poli...
I am invested in Baltimore because it is my birthplace and my life's strong foundation. Thus, I come with authority that we cannot allow the Maryland General Assembly to continue to drag its feet when it comes to police reform, or people like Freddie Gray will continue to pay the price for their delays. Governor Larry Hogan recently signed a bill into law that created a commission to study the use of body cameras by police. Now you can also become a real part of the solution by signing this petition to demand that all Maryland police officers be mandated to wear body cameras.

  • Prisoners' lives matter
State Correctional Institute-Greene inmates have been on a hunger strike since 5/16/2015 due to staff mistreatment. There are good and bad staff within any establishment. We request a thorough investigation to remove the corrupt ones, who support: 1. Illegal gang units without a policy or funding from Department of Justice. 2. Unwarranted investigation in which an arbitrar denies prisoners procedural due process involving their confinement. 3. Housing prisoners on administration custody status pending so-called separation transfer as a way to keep prisoners locked down on A.C. status for months on end. 4. Tampering with inmates' outgoing and incoming mail, which violates D.O.C. policies and procedures as well as constitutional standards. 5. Violating of D.O.C. code of ethics on many aspects arranging from falsifying reports etc., 6. Denying prisoner’s property such as basic life necessity upon their arrival to RHU. 7. Denial of eye glasses to prisoner with severe medical condition involving their eyes while in RHU. 8. Destruction of prisoner’s legal property and personal property which interferes with prisoners appeals. 9. Improper screening process of potential C.O.'s

  • Unicameral senators: Override a gubernatorial veto and end the death penalty in Nebraska
In a historic and momentous vote, the Nebraska Legislature voted 32-15 on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, to repeal the death penalty, but Gov. Ricketts has vetoed the bill. Enough senators voted for the bill to override the governor's veto if they all stand together. Let's thank the senators for their vote, and urge them to stand firm for justice, by overriding the veto.

  • No New Execution Chamber for Nevada
I am starting this petition because I am an opponent of the death penalty. At a time when public opinion across the nation increasingly trends toward eliminating the practice, let's send a signal that here in Nevada we're moving past an eye for an eye.

  • Nevada: Don't build another gas chamber!
The death penalty doesn't deter crime. Many innocent people are exonerated from death row due to "mistakes" made in their cases, or by corrupt investigators. I do not want to be responsible personally for an innocent person being put to death, and I do not want my tax dollars spent on a new gas chamber in Las Vegas. More background is here: http://lasvegassun.com/news/2015/may/18/lawmakers-split-funding-new-execution-chamber-ely/
