  • Oppose all Anti-Firearm Legislation in Vermont
Vermont has one of the lowest gun crime rates in the country for a reason, criminals do not cross the border. Disarming citizens will only allow criminals to have a new hunting ground.

  • Repeal Asset Protections for Individuals Found Guilty of Fraud
Several years ago, after having purchased a small business after engaging in all due diligence recommended by my attorney and accountant, I nonetheless lost approximately half a million dollars – my home and all my savings – due to what five attorneys who reviewed my case confirmed was clearly a case of fraud that I would almost certainly have won in a court of law. I could not prosecute, however, because I no longer had the money to pay an attorney, and no one would take the case on contingency because the numerous asset protection laws currently in place for those convicted usually allow very little if any part of a monetary judgment to actually be collectible. I am now a mid-50s single parent living paycheck to paycheck in a poor economy – no more home, retirement fund or college fund for my child - and I am far from the only individual who has experienced this type of loss with no practical recourse.

  • Ex-offenders Right to work with youth
This petition is about ex-offenders wanting to join other organizations who are working with our youth, and recieving contracts or grants to provide services. I have been turned down by organizations to work with their youth because this law is in place. I have offended in over 20 years; I have a organization that's been working with youth and adults that have drug problems or who are in gangs for 15 years. Even though we are known for work and agencies and organizations call on us all the time, we are still limited in our work with those organizations. This law needs to be changed!

  • Gun Control
The banning of assault weapons and more regulation of the gun industry. I am affected every morning when I read the paper and another innocent child has died as a result of gun fire. I am affected every time I read that an assault weapon is being sold. I am affected when the NRA (the gun manufacturers' representative) passes the buck and says how tragic it is, but it is not responsible. It reminds me of the old cigarette CEOs.

  • Prevent gun violence by enforcing current laws on self-defense.
There seem to be more vigilantism with the purchase of numerous guns for self-defense and current laws on self-defense are being distorted in the court room. People are shooting unarmed individuals off premise's, and even in the back and not going to jail for it. The reason for this, is the law is not being enforced during trials. It is a major problem, and will continue if something is not done.

  • HB-545
Makes it a class C felony to manufacture, import, possess, purchase, sell, or transfer any assault weapon or large capacity magazine. The word here is "possess". It is unlawful for the government to take any property from us and make it a felony if we do not give up said item. A ban of new sales would be okay but the latter is preposterous.

  • Professional Juries Needed
Every day the courts waste enormous amounts of time and money and thousands of people lose money by being taken away from work in the jury selection process. Professional juries would be comprised of people who would attend a two year program learning the letter of the law and developing an unbiased opinion, moving around in a 20 mile radius to different courtrooms to insure the juries would be mixed and remain impartial. It's a win-win for everybody. For the people who cannot afford and do not want to be on a jury, for people who have an aptitude for this line of work and the countless jobs that would be created and for judges who must repeat themselves day in and day out with the patience of Job for people who don't understand the process, and for the already overburdened, financially taxed court system

  • End Cannabis Prohibition
It is time we prioritize Oregon's budget, and bring our values to the floor to realize our goals. We need serious funding for education, healthcare and infrastructure, and we need to end waste. Prosecuting nonviolent cannabis offenders is an unnecessary misuse of scarce manpower, equipment, court time, and prisons. This one act of legalizing adult possession and cultivation will immediately free these resources for actual public safety concerns. Families are torn apart and lives risked daily to enforce an unnecessary law. Cannabis has been proven as a natural remedy for relief of many ailments for thousands of years in many cultures throughout the world.
