• Time to Legalize Marijuana and Lower the Drinking Age
Marijuana is only about as dangerous as alcohol; both can be bad (for different reasons) in excess, but both can also be used safely if one does so occasionally. Also, minors can not vote, and voting age adults should be treated as exactly that: Voting age adults. Not only do voting and military service require if anything more maturity than alcohol, casino gambling, and marijuana, but also, so do all contracts one may sign without parental co-signatures, and likewise applying for rifle permits and completing criminal background checks for volunteer organizations and employment.

  • No more RPP in Hampden
Residential Permit Parking can not solve Hampden's parking issues. Residential parking forces residents to pay for area parking permits without guaranteeing any actual parking for those permit holders. It simultaneously takes the right to park on publicly owned and maintained streets away from other neighbors, creating discrimination and division within the neighborhood.

  • Stop Elder Abuse Telemarketing
Life Line telemarketers are driving me crazy and I am paying AT&T to do it. I tried to talk to them and tell them I am not interested, but usually they hang up and call the next day, and the next day, and the next day. A few times I was cussed at, called a dumb ass, and was told I had shit for brains. AT&T says I should change my number. Why should I? Can't this harassment that I consider elder abuse be stopped?

  • Reunification for Zoie and Change AZ Adoption Laws
See Full Story at www.fightingforzoie.com Reunification with Zoie and her biological family. Adoption was denied. In 2007 the courts found the potential adoptive couple to be unfit to adopt and in 2014 CPS has found that the house is not fit for the child placement but the AZ Family Court felt that since they have had the child for 8 years they should be allowed to keep her. Guardianship was based on a forged document that the courts said is irrellevant because a consent to adopt was signed in 2006 but again the couple was found unfit to adopt. The courts are not protecting our children nor are they upholding the sanctity of the family unit. In the state of Arizona there is no time limit for the validity of a consent to adopt which allows for unfit potential adoptive parents to still keep the child as a guardian.

  • Anti-Whistleblower (Ag-Gag) Legislation
The industrial agriculture industry has been pushing for legislation that would make it illegal for employees or investigative journalists to film operations at their facilities, including farms and meat processing plants. Historically, these videos have uncovered serious abuses by these companies. With this legislation, which has passed in several States, future abuses will go unchecked.

  • Save 920 Missouri Street, Lawrence, KS
The lovely century-old home located at 920 Missouri Street is slated for demolition on October 19. The Oread Neighborhood is losing its architectural gems rapidly, and this home is one of the few remaining on the 900 block of Missouri. The new owners (Joe and Gina Keating) intend to tear it down and build a duplex with 8 bedrooms for rent. Please sign below if would like to help prevent the demolition of this home and preserve the neighborhood. Historic update: Mattie Crumrine, Professor of French, lived at 920 Missouri while teaching at KU for 43 years. She walked up the hill as so many of us do every day to work on campus because she saw no need for a car. Her sister Anne lived on Missouri with her most of those 43 years.

  • Save Tucson's cats -- Don't let city kill new community cat program!
Just a month ago, Pima County launched a progressive lifesaving program to save Tucson's homeless cats by spaying and neutering instead of euthanizing them. But now, due to a budget dispute between Pima County and the City of Tucson, the entire program is at risk -- with more shelter deaths likely as a result. You can help us turn this around by letting Tucson's elected officials know you won’t stand for it! Pima County's community cat program, approved unanimously by the Board of Supervisors just last month, has attracted $900,000 in private funding and is a model of how to humanely and effectively reduce homeless cat populations. By contrast, the cost of the "traditional" approach to managing community cats -- euthanizing them by the thousands, and with no end in sight -- falls entirely on taxpayers and has proven to be both ineffective and publicly unpalatable. In less than a month, this program has lowered cat euthanasia at Pima Animal Care Center by more than 65 percent and should be the pride of city leaders, not a political football. Please sign this petition today and take a moment to reach out to Tucson's elected officials and let them know this is the kind of progressive, lifesaving program we want for our city! Julie Jennings Patterson P.S. You can make even MORE of an impact by personally emailing your council member and the Mayor. • Stop NC voter suppression by Americans For Prosperity
Democracy is on the ropes in my state of North Carolina. An onslaught of political spending by out of state conservative organizations from the NRA to Karl Rove and the Koch Brothers has clogged the airwaves with right wing propaganda. But Americans for Prosperity, with their deep ties to the billionaire Koch Brothers, has doubled down on subverting democracy with a mailing that can and will confuse and mislead voters. Governor McCrory must take action to protect North Carolinians now!

  • Tell AFP to Get Out of Our Elections!
A few days ago, the Koch money-backed advocacy group, Americans For Prosperity (AFP) mailed out incorrect voter registration information to hundreds of citizens in North Carolina - and at least one cat. That's right, a cat. The group labeled these mailings as "official application forms" in an attempt to trick citizens into thinking they were registering to vote in the upcoming election. Ridiculous attempts like this to rig elections must stop now! To make the matter worse, no one seems to know where AFP got the list of people this mailing went to, and a citizen has even reported the "form" he received was addressed to his cat. This has to be the final straw for all Americans, not just NC voters. This is the United States of America - not the United States of David and Charles Koch. If action isn't taken on this now, we are letting the Koch brothers pick and choose who they want to sit in our legislatures and, serve as our judges. Join me in demanding that Americans For Prosperity explain to NC voters why they are illegally and unethically tampering with our democracy!

  • Mayor Kay: Allow Weymouth Youth Football & Cheer use of the baseball field for warm-ups
We, the families of Weymouth Youth Football and Cheerleading request permission to use the baseball field adjacent to the WHS turf field for game day warm-ups. To date, Mr. Slattery, a town employee, has denied all requests to permit our children a safe and easily accessible warm up space for their games. We hereby request that Mayor Kay use her authority to override the decision of Mr. Slattery and put the safety of our children before town politics.
